    I traded my Ebike for a TaoTao 2017 pony and after swapping the Carburetor from stock to a performance Carburetor with 19mm jet it went from 27mph to 37mph, waiting on my performance CDI in the mail hoping that makes a big difference in acceleration.

    • @davidhofinger4927
      @davidhofinger4927  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      NO no no no
      Do not put a performance CDI on your bike or a performance spark plug coil
      Please heed my warning from years of experience. Those things will make your bike run much worse. It is all a scam. It throws off the timing of your motor not in a good way. Your bike will stall out on its own. Sometimes it won’t start you will lose speed. I appreciate your tenacity, but always avoid that talk to others about this as well. They will tell you the same thing.

    I'm starting out with a 2018 tao tao. Really trying to clean up the appearance for sure. Get rid of some hoses and just little things like you did. Looks really clean. And of course I'm trying to get the big bore and an upgraded carburetor. Any tips would be very helpful and maybe a place to order them from that send you the correct parts would be good too

    Nice video love what you've done. I just received a yamati which is a version of your scooter for free motor seems ok but all electronics and carb are pretty much toast so I'm going through it all. It's been sitting for several years in storage only 1200 miles on it. Do you feel it's necessary to keep the shroud that surrounds the head in place ? I live in the Pacific NW it rarely gets hot here. I was thinking of building an air diverter under the bike. I might do the big bore 100cc on it but wasn't sure how good it is or if it will still be reliable any advice would be great thanks

    • @davidhofinger4927
      @davidhofinger4927  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Performance CDI’s & coil packs make your bike run WORSE.
      From personal and close friend and professional experience I’ve never seen one actual work. It’s all a marketing gimmick and all they do is retard and advance your timing to make it run worse.
      I always tell people to NOT buy those two things.
      This bike here is now fully built (besides the stock crank)
      But it’s a getting an even bigger 52mm Domed piston & a 44mm stroker crank this season to absolutely Max it out to the furthest point possible.
      It hits a GOS verified 50mph even now with a 47mm piston/stock crank
      So I’m expecting 55-60 with my weight.
      Stay tuned for that

    • @davidhofinger4927
      @davidhofinger4927  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re talking about changing the oil changing the spark plugs, lashing the valves Giving it fresh head gaskets, every season, putting premium gas only inside of the motor, letting it warm up every single time you write it all of the good stuff you can keep a motor going until the block gives out itself.
      Don’t personally have a direct answer because I am giving my bike the maintenance that it needs to last I don’t know exactly how long a bone stock motor would be with maintenance because you can always fix a piston. You can always fix valves as long as the block is intact, you’re good, but before any failure, I have no idea brother.
      It’ll be way longer if you maintain it if you don’t maintain it, it will not have a good life for very long at all

    Damn bro, with no rear mudguard at all, you need to be careful if you go through a huge puddle or drive in a massive rainstorm. I know a little bit of water + pod filter only slightly reduces performance, but I'd be worried about driving through a large puddle and your rear wheel splashing up enough water directly into the pod filter to hydro lock the engine! Or at least cause it to sputter off and die.
    For comparison I have a stock 49cc with mudguard and pod filter and my bike's performance does suffer a little bit in the rain compared to when dry

      You were right, I ended up swapping back to the stock air box and found out that performance was not negatively impacted at all, I had more "consistent" acceleration, I had much better peace of mind about contaminants not getting into the bore, and I didn't even have to downjet! The biggest boon I got was getting a HUGE increase in MPG after the stock air box went back on. Apparently those crappy paper filter pod filters don't let a lot of air through but they also allow so much nasty junk into the engine. I'm an air box guy for life now

      To add some context: a 47mm BBK on a 139QMB is OK, because apparently the QMB was originally designed to work with a 47mm top end but the top end was cut down to 39mm to comply with many local moped CC regulations. Putting a 52mm top end kit and revving the bike at 9k RPMs for long periods of time in my opinion is recipe for the bottom-end bearings failing. From the OP's video it certainly sounds like he's keeping the cruising revs down to a reasonable level so I don't think there'd be an issue

      Painters tape, Clean careful lines with the tape and black spray paint.
      I laid the tape down kept it on as I spray painted it and removed the tape when it was dry to create a turn signals & tail light to look like that

    Hey buddy I had a question if you get a chance I bought two of them scooters recently same thing you have pony 50 something about California emissions too from superior Power Sports? I think they scammed me but I’m not sure. Yet ?Would you know why one of them runs regular and the other one is a Real piece of crap, it’s terrible maybe 20 miles an hour and the steering is crooked what’s up with all that bro.thank you sincerely Paul

    • @davidhofinger4927
      @davidhofinger4927  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These Chinese scooters are built how they please from factory all the time even though there are two identical bikes internally they might be different you could never rely on consistency with these Chinese scooters to be quite honest it’s not superior power sports because they come mostly assembled it’s China themselves. About the crooked steering that sounds like an assembly fault though

    • @paultoomey7016
      @paultoomey7016 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand that and I appreciate it the assembly you can only put the Bolt in one-proper way I did it I’ve been doing it right i’ve looked at several bikes the boat is in perfect it came crooked like the bars are bent or something I don’t know thank you for your response though I have a good day buddy

    Those cromed out exhaust pipes are very weak, i drive deliveries daily about 50 to 150km and a have ripped those mount weldings off several times allready becouse of the forces that come from that bulky muffler bending the structure on every bump.

    • @MrTrilob
      @MrTrilob 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Solution has been custom bracket mounted on muffler to back fender screw hole on the engine block

    • @davidhofinger4927
      @davidhofinger4927  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m already a step ahead of you brother not only did I reinforced two brackets But I also cut out the back of the muffler that attaches to the header and welded a thick steel plate, where the bolts bolt into, and there will never be any issues with this muffler, still going strong 💪
      Check out my most recent short this bike is going to be much much much faster way bigger plans for this summer. I’m going to have to make it another. Fast Taotao Pony50 video title Once it is done, this is not going to do justice.

      It’s very difficult to pinpoint what is wrong mechanically without seeing it in person there’s a step-by-step process to deduct what is wrong typically. Air, fuel and spark, Those three things make an engine run so those are the first three things you need to check and cover. If they all check out that’s what he started digging into deeper more difficult things I wish I could be of help but I can’t help you but I can help you by saying a 150cc carburetor is WAY to big for a BBK’d 50cc bike, I run a 20mm Glixal carb and that’s plenty enough, anything more and I’d be experiencing a lot better of bogging, carb down to a 20mm and swap out the main jet for more fuel past that point, I run a 20mm car with a 96 main jet and it runs great
