I love the music since many years ago. And I also love this painting by Bocklin which I saw in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC. It can be perceived on many levels of esoteric knowledge. study not only the music but the painting as well. Ron Walker
True and understandable. I'm 21 and I understand... How come 90% of comments are hating on pop, not just on music, but on really pop culture. Isn't everything explained and understandable? Come on I'm just 21, I should have no answers, and I probably don't. BUt from my small experience... I state that most hatred comes from ignorance. ANd not really form ignorance, but just a lack of understanding.
If my memory is accurate, many years ago I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and I think it happened to be Rachmaninov's birthday. My eye was caught by a painting and one guess which one it was? Yes, "The Isle of the Dead"! And yes, I was rather creeped out by this experience!!!
Who gives a shit about lady gaga. Why are you even mentioning that here. And who gives a shit about how many listeners, too. Why on earth would you think that more listeners would somehow dignify this masterpiece. That's not the point! Why don't you and everyone who makes this kind of comments just appreciate it regardless of how "popular" it is I really don't get it.

Bravo, Sir Andrew -- not quite as diabolically intense as Reiner and CSO, but beautiful and lyrically true to the score. Thank you all.
It sounds like that painting to a tee. Perfect tone poem.
