    Not only do these buses have a slick profile in my eyes 👀 but I adore all the noises they make. They’re loud admittedly, but they make so many fun sounds, from the door open and close to the acceleration. I always loved riding these.
    I also noticed how the equipment changed between models, like in a 60s-70s era bus owned by the Victor Valley Union High School District in 2005 had a funny little stop sign indicator that would swing down in front of the driver when the bus had a “Low Air” situation. Later models, it was a red light and a buzzer. I even read the sign inside the 70s models explaining how the bus could slam its own brakes if you ignored that “Low Air” indicator.
    I’m still intrigued by it... aren’t we SURROUNDED by air? 😆
    Any way, I rode the old bus until my graduation day from Silverado High. Class of 2006!

    Love that tailpipe "snap" the older Detroit engines would do.

    As a high school student, I was mainly into school buses, but not really that much into Crown Supercoaches because those are really rare in my area.

    I've ridden in Gillig buses when I was in elementary school but not Crowns although I've always wanted to.

      Hated the Gilligs. Loved the Crowns, especially the old ones with the Hall Scotts.

    Thats awesome!! I am gonna be learning how to drive in Gillig Phantom/Low Floor transits (98-15 models including our 4 new CNG buses we have on order). Wish I could learn in one of these!

    Sweet ride. I have a TC2000 shorty that's in the process of being converted to a motor home. It has 49,500 miles on it. I do wish it were a standard shift.

  • @calibusguy
    @calibusguy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice. That Detroit sounds exactly like the old Gillig I used to ride. Unfortunately, the only Supercoaches I've ridden were Cummins powered, but hell, at least they're Crowns!
    This bus came from my area believe it or not, only a few miles up the 50 in Pollock Pines. I'm glad it went to a good home unlike the rest of California Crowns, which are being scrapped due to air resource board regulation.

    Awesome! Man, I love those Crowns! Definitely one of my favorite buses. It has the laydown 671 mounted amidships, doesn't it?
    Don't feel too bad about missing a shift with that long linkage!

    I am just wondering because I am assuming your personal buses are insured. Do you know what insurance companies insure buses for personal use?

    • @Lukelcas56
      @Lukelcas56 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on what insurance carrier and state in which you live in.

    Crowns are Very Rare Air - even for Texas, let alone further East. (My only exposure to them - other than TH-cam - is "Pleasantville".). It's a shame that you can't retro-paint old school buses in "period livery" (basically what it would have looked like in service); if that were permissible, I could see demand for these old Crowns here in the eastern US. (I'd repaint mine in PGCPS livery- which would naturally stand out like a sore thumb, as PGC never owned any Crowns; they have owned and operated their bus fleet since at least the 1960s.)
