I am a Jamaican living in the UK, and today I listened to the education minister Williams talking about the large number of teacher resignations with horror.
To my surprise, at no time did she thank the 'departing' teachers for their year's of quality service, and wishing them future success.
No wonder these teachers have resigned, as they do not feel valued, respected and appreciated.
In addition, Minister William could use her speech to reassure Jamaicans (home and abroad) that she would conduct a review why so many of the nation's teachers are leaving. I do wonder how many 'exit interviews' were conducted with any of the 'departing' teachers to assertain how they see the profession: weaknesses and strengths. Psositive measures are essential to every successful organisations, or institutions of staff retention.
Minister Williams were so gleeful in her speech that most of the resignatory posts had been filled.
Yes, it was important for Minister Williams to reassure the nation, especially parents and students but I believe she missed the plot.

The resignation of the older teachers might be good for younger teachers opportunities.
