@Rob Skee crazy. I've overheated my sdr12d2 so many times it should definitely be in heaven and it still kicks. 600w rms with the 800wrms amp all the way up. Going on year 2 now if she blew right now I'd go buy an svr12 and roll with it. Of course I was a zv5 but for price to performance you really can't beat a skar.
Jess, Sean. That’s not necessarily true. Subwoofer linearity does vary, the camera simply makes the effect more drastic. I’ve tested this theory with many many subs.

Perhaps Skar's SDR-12d2 would have been a closer match-up? I AM a little biased, being that I'm currently using a pair of SDR-10's powered by Skar's RP800.1d. I'm BLOWN AWAY by how loud 2 cheap 10's are. Pleased, to say the least.
My new single sdr 12 sounds way better than my old 2 kicker comp vr 12’s setup the bass is loud crisp and u can literally feel the punch this is the best subwoofer I’ve ever owned it’s also the cheapest one I’ve owned too by far my favorite can’t wait to run 2 at a time or even the evl series these sdr are only entry level to scar impressive
The main thing that makes the sundown's sweep not fair is being on your screened in porch. The difference in acoustic soundings is going to throw it off.
Yah. Mechanically the sundown does move better, cause you can see on both skars that the cone looks to somewhat warp in the lower hertz. I know that on the digital design website, the softer suspension is used on the fidelity line of subs, while stiffer suspension is for their spl line.
I run strictly sundown audio only.. that e 12 u just tested will handle 1000 watts rms.. with no problems..I have a sundown u series 12 the rms is 1500 I run it 2k rms all day long with no problems. .
Might want to check out alphard audio also. I have also been looking at subs made by a company called toro audio. Very well built subs and they are super inexpensive.
Hmm, never heard of Alphard myself yet and i been bumping for 20yrs haha. Just got a skar svr 15 with skar rp 800.1 amp amd damn it sounds nice for $400! Even grabbed a 7in dual touchscreen for like $60 at walmart and it does the trick, not the ideal settings to play with but thx for sharing info. I am always looking for a good value in speakers 👍
I've been really wanting to try a sundown 15 now bad, notsure if a Eseries 15 be any better than what i have now so kinda waiting til i can grab the sa15 soon when the lady won't chop my junk off for it, since i just got the skar stuff about 4weeks ago😅
I say put the SVR and the E-series side by side and compare them. Then put them in their rated enclosure and see how both perform. I have 2 E-10'S and love them. I would like to see how the VVX and the SVR compare to each other as well.

I honestly haven't had a chance to test the DDX's. But generally speaking, a 4th order works 'best' with subs suited for a sealed chamber. The DDX'x has a QTS of .34 Typically, a sub with a Qts of 0.4 or below indicates a speaker well-suited to a vented enclosure. A Qts between 0.4 and 0.7 indicates suitability for a sealed enclosure. But this isn't set in stone. Just something to think about. Maybe a 6th would give better results.

I cant put input. I'm bias considering I have 2 skar audio zvx 12s on 6000 watts in my car. And considering I bought them over the sundown zv5 because they handle similar power but cost less than half of the sundown. Hitting 158dbs on 12s for 800 bucks of subs amps are terramps HD 3000 1 per sub.

I’m a Skar loving Nut! I bought a u 10”d2 Sundown on the the yard sale and all I can say is wooooow! Is a 1500rms sub and the dual slug magnet is a monster. It’s recommended in a 1.0 cu box tuned a 35 hz and all I can say it’s retarded stupid strong hard slapping Bass. Very impressed very impressed!
Honestly a sub should be able to handle it's rms power constantly non stop for hours, days, weeks etc. and not have any issue doing it however there are very few subs on the market that can actually do that, most subs can't survive their rated rms for extended periods like that but they should if manufacturers rated them like they should
If you are listening to music. You can give above rms to the sub. If you are listening to test tones, or "bass boosted/re-bassed hip hop that has long strings of 35hz (or any other low frequencies) that drone on forever... stick to to rms rating or under. Non-stop low frequencies at full power will eventually overheat the voice coil, and or the amplifier too. The weakest link will die eventually to thermal overload. His video with the Sundown Sa 12... that was mechanical failure (voice coil bottomed out repeatedly for over a minute at 20 hz... damaging the epoxy seal of the voice coil. Then when he tested it in-car, the already damaged voice coil fell apart and shorted itself out, and let the smoke out.

Sundown doesn't make an S.A. series V3. They made revisions which were rev1 rev2 and rev3. They just recently came out with the new S.A. series subs that are considered the V2.

No it's not worth the money. I have 2 SKAR Audio SDR-12D4's in a custom built under seat box in a 2016 GMC Sierra Z71. With 1.22ft³ airspace each it's tuned to 36hz. On a SKAR Audio RP1500.1. 1500 rms 2400 watts peak. The 4ohm dual voicecoils are wired in parallel down to 1ohm. Amp is 1 ohm stable. It beats like crazy. Has vehicle flex. Windshield bows. It's crazy. And they're $99 each and the amp $189. So $500 for everything including amp wiring kit and material to build the box. Can't beat that. Not for the bass I'm creating.
What do u think on the sdr12 loaded box with the amp and wiring, is it worth the 560-600$ for a daily driver, I listen to 90s rock, pop, 90s rap and some of today's stuff. Idk anything about this stuff, just want something decent for the 600 range. Or would the loaded 2 10s be better ? Thanks
"Putting" something "on the bench" means testing the parameters of a component with a meter or OScope. What you are doing is putting subs "on a table" and playing a tone through them.
Ok the IX-8 is cheap but my Samsung home receiver doesn’t push much power and the sub gets hot hot I used to talk good bout Skar when my friend pointed out that Skar is just a cheaper version of Sundown I lost interest into Skar im upgrading to a 80$ 12” Kicker comp that is 150 rms just like my IX-8 atleast Ik I’mma get quality out of my Kicker
its not that its or subwoofers in general are underrated. Its the fact that the GAP between pole piece and voice coil is SO large that it creates in enefficent Sub allowing the sub to need more power over a more efficient sub design, giving the misconception that it is "underrated".
No. im talking about the Gap itself and how tight it is in relation to the VC. the tighter it is the more efficient the Sub will be. Mms and suspension compliance came into play also. but here i'm just speaking about pole gap. ie 500 watts rated subs more efficient 93db less efficient 87db. at that rating the 87db sub would need 1500 watts to be just as loud as the 93db sub. 2-3 times the power
Most brands that have a lower level product line have their product made in china. Dd audio redline series r made in china. Their 2000 series and up r built here in the usa. So sundown products r the same way

Cone stayed steady on the sundown. The skar went wobble thru out the sweep.

The Sundown looked MUCH more linear, wobbled around A LOT less.

I had one skar sdr and switch to 2 kicker cvr. The cvr’s are a lot louder on the same amp. Just my opinion.

Your list is a bit wrong. You have the SKAR EVL 12 as a 2.5 coil and it's really a 3 inch. Just wanted to point that out to you

I have e series, and sdr. I'll always grab sdr over e from now on.
That Sundown will take 750 watts for 5 min. on a test tone and live.
You will not fry it on 500 watts.

Should the rms rating on a subwoofer mean that the sub should take that amount of power for 1 song or 1 hour ? And at what frequency?

I agree that 1 hour shouldn't be a problem. And most people I know test subwoofers at a 40Hz frequency. But this can vary.

Sundown audio equipment is well worth your money. Do a sound quality test . Same vehicle, power and optimal enclosures.

If scar gives you a package deal you typically save on individually purchasing the items so if you like these items then I would say it's a good deal
