- At Catholic Mass, November 10 2024 Sof 3,14-18 Isaiah 12 Fil 4,4-7 Luke 3,10-18 are read.
.Luke shares the same words as Matthew 3:11 "He (Jesus) shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire."
Pope Francis decided to talk about the bishops mission and how they should behave. I liked what he said and to observe the faces of the listening bishops.
Among others he said that they must also take care of themselves, avoid vanity and smile.
Have you ever seen a bishop without a fat belly or taking care of them self like Jesus said according to Matthew 22:39? ("Love... yourself")
Have ever seen a bishop not worrying about what to eat or drink as said in Matthew 6:25 and Matthew 22:39
Have ever seen a bishop avoiding a sedentary life, walking in and loving the Creation like Jesus did?
Have ever seen a smiling bishop, like Jesus asked us to do in Matthew 5:12?
I especially liked that Pope Francis said that Bishops must avoid vanity. Narcissism is a form of centredness or need for admiration or vanity. Jesus was very angry with the Pharisee's hypocrisy, that loved to show up and pray in public. He said that we must close the door when we pray. (Matthew 6:6)
We do not find the word vanity in the KJV of the Bible. But if you look at the Assyrian Peshitta version of the "Our father" prayer you find the word Bisha in verse 6:13 of Matthew. The Aramaic word Bisha has been translated to the generic word Evil. Neil Douglas Klotz (NDK) in his book "The revelations of Aramaic Jesus" in page 42, means however that Bisha can be translated as Narcissism or unripenness, something difficult to get rid of without the help of God. That's probably the reason why Jesus concluded his prayer with the word Bisha. As the Greek speaking apostles probably badly understood Aramaic (Paul excluded), they translated it to Evil. And as they did not like a prayer to end with the word Evil as in Luke version 11 they later added in the doxology taken from 1 Chronicles 29:11-12: “For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.”, A verse that is now found in the KJV Bible.
Joachim Jeremias says that Jesus most probably ended the prayer with a similar verse. (Source: Dr. NDK “The Cosmic Prayer” ).
To conclude
Sorry for this long video intro . But this was also the longest homily ever heard from Pope Francis. But as always it was very interesting.
Thank you Pope Francis.
PS As said before, install Google translate so you can get the subtitles translated. I hope that Google delivers correctly written Italian. As said before I can not edit the subtitles anymore.
***** To Pope Francis :"Tell Google to allow this adopted Italian crap to edit the subtitles of your homiies and Angelus.
