lmao he said: "I'm glad they switched up from the sad music to this upbeat one. I listen to a lot of sad music and I am not ok" "Anyway, next up is Invisible!"
As a long time 5SOS fan, seeing your reaction to Jet black heart was priceless. I wish I could hear that song for the first time again hahah I was a fan since their self-titled album, I was an emo teenager and I loved pop punk xD But I feel like I grew with them musically. When Younblood came out, I was into other types of music, and Youngblood was like a mix of all those things that I liked at the moment. And CALM is just pure perfection. Period.
Yessss I agree completel, been a fan of them since Louis tweeted about them and they were opening for 1D lol, been at every show they did in my country so far and as I grew and changed they did the same with their music, so it really feels like I grew up with them!!
fun fact: they did a cover of american idiot. If you do a reaction to it, I recommend the one on the howard stern show. it's so good. thats Ashton singing in the second verse of safety pin. he's so under appreciated as a singer and im glad you like his voice as much as i do. Also, if you watch a live performance of castaway, Michael and Luke do a guitar battle and it's amazing.
Saddest songs: JBH, invisible, girl who cried wolf, and broken home 😭 On a happier note: The last lyric of the album is Luke singing “you know it’s gonna get better”
"getting older sucks...what's worse is getting older, but feeling young" When I tell you I felt that on a spiritual level, I mean it. I think that's why a lot of us resonate with the pop punk style, it's nostalgic and so honest
it's funny that you're listening to them from CALM and back, as you can tell the evolution between sounds good feels good and youngblood is absolutely crazy! they changed their sound while also maintaining some older elements in youngblood but sounds good feels good was the last time they put out anything "punk pop"ish. their evolution has been absolutely amazing and they have really grown and matured as a band!
Just wanted to let you know that there isn't really a main writer in 5SOS. They usually write in pairs if not all together (though sometimes they individually write with other people), and this goes for both lyrics and the actual music. EDIT: Also, this wasn't the Deluxe album, this was the regular album. The Deluxe ends with "Space Between A Rock And A Hard Place (Catch 22)" and "Story of Another Us"
Some bands I know they listened to growing up: Green Day, All Time Low, The Offspring, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Nickelback, Blink-182, Good Charlotte, Mayday Parade, My Chemical Romance, Busted, Nirvana
I think the fact it took them a few years between SFGF and Youngblood kinda helped the fans getting used to this new era. To me it was hard because SGFG is my favourite album, but the amount of dedication they put into each album makes it worth it sticking to their work.
This album was produced by John Feldman and The Madden brothers wrote songs with them (on this and their first album) and Alex Gaskarth did too. And they all write songs, not everybody writes everything but they all write. Also please pay attention to Ashton singing, he's the best, he sings the second part in Safety Pin! And his drumming on this album. Wow! Edit: Jet Black Heart is my favourite song by them, it's just so unique and amazing and it honestly saved my life ❤
Please react to Five Seconds of Summer’s Jet Black Heart, Castaway, and Wrapped Around Your Finger live performances. Their vocals and guitar solos live are amazing! Also loved your reaction! 💛
On Broken Home, probably that's how Ashton, the drummer, feels. They said that they never wanted to play it live again after one time. The saw the fans crying and one member almost had a break down. But we like to torture ourselves so we listen to the songs on shuffle and jump one minute, then cry the other hahaha
Ngl, fully forgot Jet Black Heart and Waste The Night were on this album because I listen to the live Youngblood album so much (Waste The Night sounds so much better live imo), highly suggest listening to that album. Anyway! Love watching you react to them! I'm gonna keep binging your videos now! edit: I just got to Castaway and THE PUNS.
the last chorus in the live version of Waste The Night is so good because instead of doing the original half-time, they doubled it and it sounded so hypeeee
I never expected that i would cry while smiling when he was listening to Jet Black Heart. Thank you for the reaction. Please react to their Meet You There Tour Live, i'm sure you're gonna love it.
okay but around 21:30 you literally had me SOBBING!!!! yes, I’ve been a fan since before sounds good, feels good and it was, indeed, quite a transition. but as you keep mentioning, they are so talented and can play with so many different genres that i feel lucky to have them in this world and i absolutely ADORE every single one of their albums, because how can one NOT???? also, you put the biggest smile on my face while reacting to this album (one of the best ones i’ve ever listened to) and freaking out like we all did back then! keep up the good work 😉
Seeing your reaction to Broken Home makes so much sense and I was the same when I heard it when the album first came out. This album came out in a tough time in my life and Broken Home hit too close to home for me and my parents, and it even made my mom cry when I showed it to her back then. I can never listen to that song, even like 5 years later. This whole album was my favorite album back then, and I’ve been a fan of theirs since they had their Somewhere New EP. When Youngblood came out it did come to a shock to me sonically, but at the same time it felt natural. The fans who were there for their first and second album had already matured by the time Youngblood came out, most possibly healed or were in the process of healing from past traumas or their sadness. Youngblood came at the right time for most fans as we had changed from being those sad teens to possibly being in their early 20’s or about the start their 20’s, so the shift of sound fit nicely for most of us I would say.
Steven you gotta do story of another us and catch 22 they were bonus tracks from this album and especially story of another us is such a good song you'd love it!
I have genuinely LOVED watching you fall in love with this band and their music over this quarantine. My little sister showed me 5sos back when they were posting covers on TH-cam, then got picked up to tour with one direction. I’ve been hooked ever since, and watching you react to every part of their time as a band is just so genuinely fun, and positive (heh). I’m glad you’re loving it, I’m glad you’re putting this content out for us all to enjoy, and I’m glad I came across you and your channel. :)
joel and benji madden from good charlotte actually helped write on this album so your ear is actually spot on lmao it was also produced by even more icons; john feldmann (goldfinger) and david hodges (evanescence!!!!)
Each member has their own individual playlists on their artist Spotify page that I think you should check out in your spare time! It could give you some really good insight into some of their older influences from when they were growing up as well as their more recent ones. Absolutely loved the video btw! :) 🤍
