  • I'm embarking on a lifelong quest to find and film every single animal in the UK! There's 742 critters that I'm after, so that should keep me busy for the next few decades.
    Now, I'm not exactly an animal or a photography expert... but join me as we learn as we go and uncover some of the more mysterious little creatures, as well as your day to day pigeons, together.

    Possibly the best video I have randomly came across on TH-cam. If you need some ideas on how to better find reptiles and amphibians there are plenty of herping videos you can watch on TH-cam. You already are doing one good thing in that every stone or piece of metal or log you turn over put back how you found it as that is someones home and you don't want to destroy it. Also, release any animal caught back where you got it. I look forward to following you on your journey.

      You just made my day 😃 I'm thrilled that you liked it and I'll definitely check out some herping videos for more tips. I can't wait to get some good adder footage especially..

    That is a great start especially the 2 lizards. I lived in the UK until I was 28 but I only ever saw 2 lizards one of which was in the dunes at Studland. I could tell you where I saw it but that was about 1967, so I think he would have moved by now!

    I know nothing about British snakes but here in Australia, if you are going to pick up a piece of corrugated iron you ALL WAYS lift it with the opening AWAY FROM YOU!!
    Why you may ask ??
    If there is a angry snake under there, the tin is between you and the snake if it decides to try and bite you.
    You for 1 have a sheet of iron between your body and their teeth but 2, you can drop the iron back on top of it quick smart and hope that gives you time to run!
    Any poisonous snakes in pommy land?

    • @CreatureChroniclesUK
      @CreatureChroniclesUK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your concern ☺️ we only have one venomous snake here, the adder, and there's only been 14 deaths since 1876 from them so they're not really worth worrying about.. I'm pretty sure if I did this series in Australia I'd already be dead 😂

    • @jaded9087
      @jaded9087 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CreatureChroniclesUK lol.
      Just out of concern , dont be number 15.
      Yes there are lots of things here that want to kill you here but most strike out of fear so we manage to say alive by treating wildlife with respect and lifting tin is a safe manner.
      You are looking for that adder, yes ?
      Just keep in mind that with venomous snakes, the babies are the most venomous as they are born with all the venom of an adult but they have no control on how much they release.
      They will pump all they have in to you in one bite.

    3:57 I think thats a Latticed Heath moth. I know you're not planning on doing insects, but maybe consider a moth special sone time. Borrow a trap from someone and stick it out on a warm, cloudy night. You may be surprised at the variety we get here in the UK.

    There's something so humorous about watching a guy be ecstatic over finding a lizard. Hope you have luck in finding all the animals, it'd be interesting to see how things differ from here in the States. That blackbird already looks way different than the blackbirds we have in the Midwest.

    Do keep in mind those 628 birds include EVERY species EVER seen, including stuff seen once 40 years ago and then never again, and completely extinct species. The real list of breeders, winterers and migrants is likely half as big (or even smaller!) Good luck in this journey, I might copy the idea for myself here in Spain ;)

    • @CreatureChroniclesUK
      @CreatureChroniclesUK  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I did know that 😂 I'm planning on making a more realistic target based on the breeding birds and frequent visitors, but I'll still keep the original number just to keep me busy for the rest of my life 😂
      How many do you have in Spain? Remember to give me a shout out if you make a similar series 😉

    • @b3ugaz78
      @b3ugaz78 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CreatureChroniclesUKHahahah, then it'll be a lifelong journey for sure! 😂
      I don't do TH-cam, i meant it as making a list with everything and keeping track of what I end up seeing. I've already been in the wildlife world for a few years but having this huge list makes me have something to always look foward to! Personally I'm lacking quite a bit in mammals and herps.
      In Spain we have quite a strong biodiversity, we're the most diverse country in europe and we have many endemic species! And to answer your question, we have around a bit less than 400 regular species, including the canaries islands and the african cities :)
      8 of which are endemic to the country (all in islands), and an additional 4 of them restricted to the Iberian Peninsula- though many of our species are found nowhere else in Europe.
