  • Join us for a 2 RIB mid winter dawn run in the Irish Sea. In this episode we burn through as much ageing petrol as we can with a mid winter sunrise trip on the Irish Sea. Follow along as we launch at Skerries before sunrise, take in sunrise at the Rockabill light house, then South to Lambay Island for coffee over the wreck of the RMS Tayleur, known as the first Titanic, then we round Lambay Island and head north bound back to Skerries to recover the boats and warm up.
There are a number of small aluminium Chinese built RIBs on the market, I believe this video will give you a good idea what they are all about.
Nividic 550 Aluminium 3D Tender RIB is fitted with a Suzuki DF100 on a Bunk Trailer
Lencraft 620 RIB is fitted with a Honda 130 on a roller trailer

Love the vide, well made, you guys are lucky to have such an interesting and near coastline over there, I have a 2003 5m gemini waverider 115hp here on the east coast of Australia and cant get enough of getting it out. Nice to see people with achievable boats making relevant content.

Hey Stuart I really appreciate your take on this. “Achievable boat” is a great phrase and one I’ll keep, maybe even steal, it’s a good steer for what’s valuable in telling the story of my little dream machine. This size of boat of one age or another is not only in reach for most but I think it can also do so much more than most for less than most. Roll on the summer 💪

What an amazing adventure, I love your zest for life and living in general. An amazing sunrise and video to boot. I'm sure you were glad of that warm coffee near the end. A hand warmer at least.

A great comment to receive at the end of a long day at work and it’s very much appreciated. Thank you.
The one thing I will do better next time is the coffee. There was some confusion on who would bring what and we were a little short. The next time I’ll bring the lot.
A hot coffee on a cold day is like a day outside in the middle of winter. Better than ever.

Thanks for watching Dave, I’d say after watching that launch you’re edging closer to identifying the root cause of my parking brake cable issues 😂

Thank you as always Andrew. 8 layers was the magic number 😂 Sunrise is a real feast for the photographers eye. It was beautiful. Lost a lot of great shots to water on my lense. Must watch that more closely next time.

Made a very similar purchase a year ago. Went with the fibreglass hull however. Love it and loved your video! Just stumbled accross your channel. It really is special getting out on those cold winter mornings!

Thank you Denis. Roll on the summer so I can get more of the family out though. It’s still a little hardcore for most it seems.

January is a bit hardcore alright. I am planning to do a round ireland trip this summer. Camping on the islands were I can. Weather will be the biggest issue of course. A second rib would be a welcome addition to the trip if it is something that interests you.

Denis what a great endeavour. I’ve been watching that guy on TH-cam doing the same in the UK in his tiny rib and it’s very tempting. I think I’d have to be honest with myself here though. Unfortunately summer is my busy season at work and I would really struggle to pull off a big project like this unless it was rolling sections over a long period. I think for myself I will concentrate on just getting to as many islands as I can over the coming years. Please stay in touch though. Would be great to see how you get on.

It’s a big venture alright. Excited and a little daunted by it. We have so much planned but “No Plan Survives First Contact With the Enemy”… so let’s just see how we go.

Your 'because it's winter' and 'better for having done it' echo my reasons for having stood in the snow during my son's ski lessons at -2F. The experience was serene and life giving.

We are a long way from the rift valley this far north John, where winter and summer are all but the same.
Bouncing from one building to another in winter, cosying up to one heater after another does not exercise the tools evolution gave us to deal with that distance though.
The image of my face handing the camera to the other boat is an accidental selfie, but in the candid expression my family tell me they see my absolute glee and exhilaration. I do too. There really is no such thing sitting by the fire, and yet the fireside is so much better for it. Yin yan or something like that. There’s balance in it. Life giving as you say.

Network Offshore?? Oh come on ….Only just spent the roof tent fund (and not on the roof tent) - don’t tell me I’ve gotta add a boat to the list?
Another great video, and the dramatic soundtrack, coupled to the full throttle, certainly stirs the emotions. You’re right about the sunrise - the hope and comfort it must have brought to our ancestors should not be lost. As always, thank you for sharing.

Hey Paul, I hear you on budget. So many more things around my house would work better if it wasn’t for my toy set.
I once drove past a ropey looking trailer (or mobile home as we call it around here) parked by a huge river in a stunning valley in the Canadian rockies.
Outside was a 4x4, a quad bike or side by side machine, a skidoo, a healthy stock of fire wood, a whisp of smoke from his stove pipe which sat beside a vast satellite dish. Around the side beneath a snow cover I could make out a speedboat. Probably a jet boat for the river. The snowy peaks and valleys all around were like a call to arms to this life style.
Sometimes I think around here we get too bought up in the mantra that ‘my home is my castle’. Our life is our castle.
Easier said than done when the mechanics bill comes in, and it’s overdue.

Michelin man. It might have been a little hard to reach my toasty ‘heat sink toes’ with my toasty ‘heat sink fingers’. 😂
Anything over 2°c or less than 40 knots of windchill would have been well into the heat stroke red zone.
