Simple kitchen cabinet for my bus with slide out Origo metho stove

  • My first kitchen cabinet is finally finished!
(well except for benchtop and doors)
I am super happy with how it turned out. I used lightweight pine for the framing (mostly 42x19mm and some 64x19mm plus a few small pieces of 30 x 42mm), aluminium angle and 7mm ply for the shelves. I am using plastic storage crates from Bunnings instead of built in drawers to keep the weight down (plus I couldn't be bothered making a heap of drawers).
And I made it so my alcohol stove will pull out from underneath which will leave my benchtop free for working on.
I can pick the whole thing up (without the stove in it) with just one hand.
After all the work I did to get to this point, it is so nice to finally start seeing my little bus looking more like a little home.

OMG Dyani- your confidence has grown enormously over the course of your journey to date! You appear very relaxed over each task ahead of you.

I love your drawer idea it’s so practical. They can be totally removed with all their contents if you ever need to for any reason - beats emptying regular drawers

Hi again you could buy some narrow strips of Teflon and fix to the base of the stove...pretty smooth. Bus is looking great.

We're hanging on for your next excellent video Dyani. While I am just starting my build on my Mitsubishi Rosa I am getting huge benefit from your videos. Thanks for putting up such thoughtful content with a particular emphasis on my appreciation of you posting your mistakes. It is from these we learn. Thanks, Alan

Dyani, you claimed a few episodes ago that you didn't have design skills but I think you're being far too modest. You're showing us that building and design skills can grow simply from the desire to do something, the ability to ask the right questions and just knuckling down and going for it. You're a natural.

I like the videos you are doing, but I really worry about that stove on the slide. The wooden retainer and side locks look insufficient to stop that mass during an accident. Added to that is it's location behind the passenger. Please think about adding some sort of vertical blocker that goes into a substantial frame, not just some light pine.

Nice work, looking good and solid. Thought when you started with the Ali angle you were going to use as slides to put edge of the storage totes on not needing the ply shelf. Well described as usual and enjoying seeing your vision coming together. What fuel does the stove use? and Make/Model?

It's an origo stove. Runs on methylated spirits. Very common in boats but sadly no longer manufactured and hard to get.

It looks so good!! That stove is a great idea. Have you tested it out to see how much metho it uses?

    • @AGirlADogandABus
      @AGirlADogandABus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes a while ago I used it full time. So used for everything - boiling water for coffee etc, also heating water to wash dishes, cooking porridge everyday for breakfast, cooking dinners and most lunches too. Used a 1L bottle of metho over about 10 days.

You cannot buy them new any more. They are no longer being manufactured so you can only get them secondhand. I bought this one on Gumtree, which is the Australian equivalent of Craigslist.

Hello I am interested in your build of your coaster. I live in the Nth qld , Cairns and planning to build out a coaster. I'm hoping to buy one ASAP. I have had some trouble with finding a vehicle that has everything that I want. But it is only early days as yet. With the wet getting closer im hoping I m to find one soon. I was also wondering if I may contact you and speak with you personally. My name is Joanne and I would be interested in offering you my time. I have had some experience with building so may be of some assistance to you.
I hope to hear from you if that is something you would find helpful.
    Sincerely Joanne

Hi Joanne, thanks for the offer to help, it is very kind of you. I do have quite a few folks here already who can help out if I need, but actually I am purposely trying to do my entire build on my own as much as possible. Partly because I want to show other women who may not have as much support what can be done, but mostly because it has long been a dream of mine to build my own home and it is quite a personal thing for me to be able to look at my finished bus one day and say :I built this".
I wish you all the best with you coaster search. I too found it hard to find a bus that suited what I wanted for a price I could afford. In the end, I sat down one day and googled every school, kindy, day care centre, nursing home, sports club, tour company etc in my area and sent every one an email saying I was looking for a coaster and did they have one for sale. I also put wanted to buy ads in the various bus sale groups on Facebook. That was how I found my bus in the end. A local charter bus company contacted me and they had a coaster that was still in service as a school bus and they were just waiting for their new model bus to arrive and then they were going to advertise the old one for sale. I got in first :) Something like that might be a good strategy for you if you are having trouble finding one.

      Hi
Thank-you for your reply ... watching your videos .I love your ordered approach and your knowledge of the tasks required during your daily routine of the building . Great idea to find the right vehicle ... and I will indeed follow your example. I am really looking forward to having a go at the conversion from a people -mover to my very own mobile home . Like you, I want to know intimately every cm of the build and be able to repair/replace any breakdowns. So thank you again for your encouraging words. Keep up your great work.
      All the best
      Joanne
