The instructions are pretty clear. They also tell you, if you want to do fast/rapid stapling (roofing felt, for example) you can keep the trigger squeezed and simply press the gun wherever you wish it to staple.

Hey! it's working perfectly fine & i even bought the accessory that makes it work as a paper stapler but honestly i haven't count how many staples per charge but it has enough juice to get the jobs done.
I bought mine for re-seating old dining chairs (so fairly hard wood), I'm up to about 400 staples so far and that's almost constant use over the last couple of days.

You dont need to press "switch" first.
