I've got it and I love it. Mainly because I had the Sigma 19-35 zoom which is as wide as I'll ever want so 20 f1.8 is good enough for interiors and landscapes with good bokelicious
Thanks Alex, I just bought a 20 F1.8 and your video helped me to make up my mind, I do believe it’s a wonderful lens, after all, I paid £130 and that’s almost the widest lens I can get. I can live with its flaws and I think most of them you mentioned are more like characters. :)
Bought mine a few years ago for 250 euro. Came with the 4.5mm f2.8 Fish Eye so got them both for that money. Not using either a whole lot, but still I'm happy having them.
For an 80D it's not a bad addition to the kit lens, definitely also consider the EF-S 24mm as the price may be lower and it's quite a bit smaller. Less unique though and doesn't have that f1.8 option when you get into low light.
hi alex, did you still owning this lens? I also have this lens (24mm version) and it was seriously scratched on its internal lenses by a technician... I noticed green and magenta aberrations in this lens in high contrast situations... However, without another copy it is difficult for me to determine if it is a performance of this lens or the result of damage. Can i send an email for some photo comparitions? thank u
I might be getting one of these with a Sigma 24 -70mm f2.8 for €70 (both of them/Pentax mount - Ye they still exist lol). As you say, at the right price these are great. I think they will look ok on film or for scenes where you want 'character'. I will compare it with the Canon and Nikon 20mm f2.8 to see how it holds up
Very curious about this comment. Do you adapt pentax lenses to canon or other brands? How's the performance? Do those lenses have autofocus, working when adapted? 24-70 f2.8 for €70 sounds incredible!
@@quintennn I have adapted them to Fuji and Sony, the AF doesn't work because they are screw drive lenses, not many of those lenses can be adapted with AF (Sony A to E mount can though with the LA EA4 adapter). You can still use focus peaking though. I sold the 20mm because it was far too big, about 3 times the size of the Nikon 20mm f2.8. i still have the 28-70mm, I bought a K1 recently and have yet to try it properly, they are old enough lenses, slow, noisy AF and not the sharpest but for €35 (very little use, excellent condition) it was a bargain
Hi Alex, just discovered your video because i was curious how the sigma 20mm 1.8 would perform in nightsky photography... thanks for saving me the 250€ i'd had spend on a used one. I will stick to my 20mm 2.8 :)Thanks again
Hi Alexandro. I have been using it as my primary Astrophotography lens on my 6D since I got it and I have got some fantastic (maybe imperfect) results. Stopped down a bit I think the stars would be a bit more defined.
I had the 24mm version of that lens on my Nikon D700... It was a complete piece of s**t :( It produced a horrible out of focus area on every single photo at any aperture under F7 (it was useless for portraits or event photography) because let's say, the feet and legs of people were completely blurry. I do not know if I had a bad copy of it or it is just the way that lens is...
Wow! Sounds like yours was definitely a below average quality copy, though I wouldn't say it's well suited to portraits or events at the best of times.
@@rnbmeister it has worked well for that so far, but I already took the decision of sending it to be fixed since I would really love to start doing milky way photography 🤧
сам год как назад купил данный объектив для canon в целом гуд, единственное парит это то что мой canon 5d m2 плохо держит высокие iso хотелось бы чтоб они были выше но увы фотику 12 лет хаха
Took me ages to translate this comment as I couldn't copy it to clipboard on mobile. The main reason I spent a bit more on the 6D rather than a 5DII was how well it performs at high ISO. It is drastically better than my old 7D. But at least with f1.8 you get more light at whatever ISO you can shoot.
Bought one for around the same price for Nikon, sadly couldn't afford 2x cheaper option because then i'd have to buy Pentax... So... If you look everywhere and wait for it - you can come across a cheap option i guess!

Currently been using the kit lens on my Canon 80d and been looking at some cheap lens to buy for fun and this looks promising and fun to play with 👍😀
