Oh, if you think that plesiosaur in the first picture is bad, wait till you read the book this is from - Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. The ichthyosaur's descriptionis fine by what was known at the time, but the plesiosaur - it has a carapace. explicitly described as some sort of long-necked turtle. As for animal identification services and miscellaneous stuff: 2:40 Iguanodon 2:50 Pterosaur from the brief period it was thought they might have been mammals 5:10 Laelaps (now Dryptosaurus) 6:23 Early attempt at Hadrosaurs 13:50 Yup, Iguanodon again (Megalosaurus did not have a horn) 18:20 Edaphosaurus (with its eyes in the one place in its skull where there isn't even an opening) 21:00 Scelidosaurus 23:04 Okay, I assume this image is from Germany. In German, plesiosaurs were regularly called "swan-neck lizards" and so, someone ended up being too literal again 29:14 Hypsilophodon 38:48 Oh boy, I own this book. This is a creationist book trying to argue dragons are dinosaurs that lived alongside humans.
18:08 "why would all these creatures be together?" Clearly, they've met up to discuss the volcano erupting and what to do about it. And their conclusion was evidently "get in a time machine and go and live in a different period".
In the second image the animal that looks like it was "ran over by a car" is (believe it or not) an Elasmosaurus! When first discovered it was incorrectly reconstructed with the vertebrae backwards so the head was on the end of the tail, thus the short neck. Short-neck Elasmosaurus makes a comeback in image four where it appears with Dryptosaurus, the theropod you couldn't identify. The chillin critter o the rock is old fashioned Megalosaurus and the "bat cosplay" is a pterodactyl because at this time the prevalent theory was that pterosaurs were flying marsupials instead of reptiles.
38:49... back in my days as a braindead creationist, I had a couple of books with weird biblical explanations about dinosaurs. That image is from one of those books. One of them also touted the T. Rex could've been a vegetarian because some monkeys today that eat mostly fruit have sharp canines (yes... that was the literal backing for that claim), totally ignoring any evidence we have that it was definitely a carnivore.
It’s from Dinosaurs by Design by Duane Gish (the creationist who the Gish gallop was named after) this was my only dinosaur book growing up is a creationist religion
29:13 I think that they were discovered after this painting was made, but those reptiles kind of look like drepanosaurs to me. They are small, Triassic reptiles that look somewhat similar to chameleons.
I don't know why but the very first dinosaurs depictions of 1824 to 1896 have a certain charm for me. Even if how they are represented is completly wrong, i kinda like them.
thank you for posting this. im in the process of removing wallpaper off my office bathroom. my vision for the space is green walls and old paleo art on the walls. and this was a perfect example to send to the wife.
Prehistory in the Dark: Plesiosaurs get back in the water and stop snapping your own necks! You two aren’t capable of that! The plesiosaurs: Are you suuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrre?😏 😏
Awesome video!!! Also I subbed :) I agree, alot of this is inaccurate, also if I'm going to be honest everything about Dinosaurs (paleowize) is all theories, cause at the end of the day we can't prove anything because we can't go back in time to prove these things, all we and the scientists can do is guess
@@ilonaramazanova6940 I did. Very vaguely like mammoth, same color as rest of cliff, and perspective suits cliff more. Are you sure that it isn’t pareidolia?
When you think about it.... makes sense that ancient reptiles such as dinosaurs were given dragon type features. Until we know what these prehistoric creatures were, the depiction of dragons in legend and folklore would've been a proper analogy for dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and prehistoric sea reptiles.
An animal that needs more attention, though one wonders however that if such sails were developed to catch as much heat from the sun, how frigid was the wind? As weird as that sound, and as terrible as it sounds, on a personal account, I had a case where there was warm sun but the air and wind were frigid, not a coat for warmth but a coat to block the wind.
About the gliding dimetrodons: It was made as a joke. It’s still hilarious though 😂

@@bluesteno64if you’re referring to the creationist book it’s called Dinosaurs by Design by Duane Gish
@ thank you!
The one with the ocean on fire. If you look close the mothman is over the ersatz plesiosaur’s shoulder.
LOL

I like the way this video devolved into “go home Dimetrodon, you’re drunk” for a bit
12:43 "Yo Jerry tf you chewin on?"
02:42 judging from the horn, I’m guessing it’s meant to be a very old depiction of iguanodon
Water: **exists**
Plesiousaurs in old paleoart: This is brilliant! But i like this.
*Land.*
27:22 I mean, even though they didn't need to be in water it's not like they couldn't be. Like elephants or moose.

2:47 could it have been based on the old marsupial/monotreme pterosaur thing?
15:34 An iguanodon died covering its face and paleontologists mistaken the thumb for a horn.
2:33 probably an icthyosaur cus in a 19 century book about evolution it had this one and said it's an ideal icthyosaur depiction
16:49 Shrek Venom Hulk Theropod hybrid

5:27 Somewhat mammalian also the drooping Ankylosaur tail just feels wrong
I suggest a channel called “ trey the explainer” he has knowledge on ancient paleo art like the stuff you’re looking at
YES
14:13 I think it's a giant scaly platypus.

93 was when jp came out lol I think that was a person turning into a Dino half way through
The weird long necked mosasaur might be Macroplata? Which was a sort of short necked long tailed plesiosaur?
That’s actually your mosasaurus
Just so yall know this is just a compilation of all of his paleoart videos
38:56
I actually own the creationist children’s book this came from.
I love this art. It’s crazy.
me when I see the most disgusting nsfw art I ever seen in the internet: 36:05

Do the lost world Jurassic Park novel and Chaos Theory
in the dimetrodon like spino art theres a mammoth in background,ya missed that.
It looks more like far-away cliff partly covered by mist.

Its not paleoart unless there is an erupting volcano in the background, thats the rule 🙄
