I've tried 3 different statins and they cause me horrible side effects. I told my PCP that I refuse to take a statin and that I would just take my chances. Over time, they continue to lower the bar on the numbers so everyone will end up on statins. My PCP may refuse to continue to see me, but so be it. I'm 68 and I feel good. If it shortens my life a little, what have I got to loose in this screwed up world that we live in.

Perhaps you might consider getting the Lipoprotein A and Apoprotien A, B, B/A ratio to determine whether your hypercholesterolemia is genetic. Statins won't help if genetic and no current tx. Apparently, not even lifestyle modifications help, but yeah, still exercise, clean nutrition, high fiber, water, sleep and all the things anyway. I got mine done without MD order (self-refer) through Ulta Lab Tests for $93 OOP. This gave me relevant info regarding my own cholesterol status and limitations, thus I'm no longer going to worry about heart disease outside of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. All the best to you!

Look Into Nattokinase Which Is A Fermented Soybean Product Used By The Japanese. Studies Show The Using 10,000 FU Daily Along With Vitamin K2, Will Remove Plaque From Your Arteries Better Than Statins Over A 6 Month To One Year Period.
Nattokinase Will Only Attack The Plaque In Your Veins And Arteries, Not Your Live Tissue. Also, Vitamin K2 Helps With The Absorption And Effectiveness Of The Nattokinase & Will Make Your Arteries And Blood Vessels More Flexible.
Please Do Your Research, I've Been Using This For Nearly 3 Years And It's Worked Well For Me, I Feel Great! I Hope This Helps! 🙏

LDL does not matter as much as HDL to Triglyceride ratio. I follow a low carb diet, which can cause the LDL number to be higher than what is called "normal". At my annual physical my PCP immediately mentioned statins, while I pointed out my other numbers are all normal. I also noted that she did not order a "smart lipid panel" which would have further broken down my LDL number to the good buoyant particles vs the smaller bad LDL particles. We left it off with my getting a Calcium CAT scan with contrast. And guess what...at age 70 my score is zero. I will not be going on statins. I think the obesity epidemic is what should be THE FOCUS and not a rush to pharmaceuticals with side effects. It means shopping the perimeter of the grocery store rather than following the standard American diet, which is S.C.R.A.P.: Sugary, Carb-Rich And Processed.

Wow, so everybody run out and get your statins. Wrong. Statins reduce the LDL part that is helpful to prevent the rupture of the vessel. When you look at the sub proteins of LDL there are various kinds. Doctors do not order that lab test. Statins increase the receptors of LDL in the liver, the problem is, they don’t take out the bad oxidized sub particle, they take out the particle that helps keep everything flowing. Not all LDL is bad, this is a common misconception and something physicians are not taught in medical school.

According to one of the most comprehensive meta analysis studies published in the Journal of American Medicine a couple of years ago, the need-to-treat outcome was something along the lines of having to treat 80 people with statins for 5 years in order to reduce one heart attack. This study focused on absolute risk reduction vs. relative risk reduction. Pharmaceutical companies often cite relative risk reduction statics instead of absolute risk reduction. Relative risk reduction isn't the big picture because you're comparing a subset of participants, and this will often give you impressive results. Focus on absolute risk reduction instead.

In the original research (which they kept private for decades), here's what happened: 30% of people quit them almost immediately because of side effects. They didn't count those people. Out of the rest, of the people who had never had a heart attack, statins did nothing. Out of every thousand people who did have a previous heart attack, the risk of a second heart attack dropped from something like 78 out of a 1000 to about 55 out of a thousand. Statins had no impact on lifespan in either group.

Why, 1, You won’t be able to tell which one is working better.
    2. It is highly likely to have the patient not make the permanent changes they need with their life still habits. Why, because they will very likely conclude that taking a pill for life is easier.

"Why doctor's put folks on a 40mg dose per day, of any statin?" I believe the reason almost everyone seems to be on statins these days is directly related to MONEY! As Treatment Centers are receiving large rebates from big pharma. Also some doctors may be in on the problem keeping the hospitals happy at our expense and related medical side effects from statins. How many people were prescribed Lipitor and derivatives, without informing the patient until recent investigations? I'm 83 yrs old and feel darn lucky to make it this long, without knowing what to ask? Uninformed not ignorant. Several doctors are trying to inform the public stating "They lied to us!"

He does such a BASIC, simplified presentation, doesn't cover so many things, e.g. Statins lower CoQ10 enzyme in the body, can cause hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia, the decreases of CoQ10 causes muscle pain, tendonitis of shouder, elbow, etc. Statins are also implicated in dementia, increase liver enzymes. To find out if you need statins, you should check a lipodologist to determine if your A protein is high and C reactive protein is positive, which woul affect your heart. Also the size of the LDl cholesterol.

I disagree with number 2. It’s been shown that high LDL doesn’t mean there’s a problem. If you have plaque confirmed by a CAC scan or CTA, then you should be on a statin.

Stop, What are you on! The problem is that you have a lifetime of bad advice. Every character at the scene of the accident is getting the blame. The role of cholesterol has been misinterpreted. Good / bad, if you hear that change channel, they are discussing a from & go movement, just like Vains & arteries. It's the blood & and the arteries where the problem lies, blood is scraping along the inside of your arteries under pressure from a heartbeat, misrepresented as continuous tubes. They more like the skin of an armadillo they contract and expand controled by the gas Nitric oxide with guidance from hydrogen, your blood started deteriorating from you 30th birthday, your blood was active, smooth, could slide down to your toes with a push from your heart, then you, sat down, the only excitement was watching a sports mach standing. You now take 9 pills a day, 5 of them for symptoms from the other

The Jupiter trial was nefarious just like many other of these statin trials- it doesn’t lower inflammation - statins lower LDLs but do not prevent death. Look at the statistics at the average follow up at 1.9 years- even in their own tables there is no difference from year 1 to 2 ; metabolic syndrome in 71 more people in the placebo group, 51 more women in the control group and a NNT of over 100 - all the while 11 of 15 of the researchers had much to gain and the trial is in people with LDL below 130 that still have a heart disease issue. Along side this, many DRs are trying to lower LDLs even more down to 70 resulting from trials that failed but were presented positively- improving Insulin sensitivity should be the goal not helped by statins.

I am 72 and just don't feel they work. My good cholesterol is low, my bad cholesterol is high and so are my triglycerides. I have been pretty good with my diet, but I know that I really should be exercising more. Always tired, thyroid issues.
