He makes the piano sound like a harp, then a classical guitar and, of course, a powerful concert grand. Technique, artistry, charisma, audience appeal. He's got it all. Total command of the instrument, the music and the hall. Katsaris is a musical magician of the first order. Bravo!
This man constantly proves that Art of improvisation is still alive in classical music - unlike thousands of performers who forgot about it. He can easily fuse Rachmaninov and Japanese folk song with unbelievable beauty and then come back to the most demanding Liszt. The one and only Cyprien Katsaris - "Keith Jarrett of classical piano"
I went to the recital. i was impressed that he played the piano with his smailing eyes. He is not only one of the great pianist, but a great entertainer! Thanks!!
And to be fair, the Marcello Oboe concerto arrangement is celestially sublime. Reminds me so much of Grieg's Air from Holberg's Suite. Clearly modeled after this piece.
I must say I have loved C. Katsaris since a teen and that was over 30 years ago. Fascinated to bits, nobody on this planet plays like him. But, please, the Liszt concerto isn't a bit frenzied? Would he really be taking it at that breakneck speed if he was playing with an orchestra? Even Liszt can benefit from some restrain. Reading Carl Lachmund's reminiscences of Liszt, Katsaris playing always comes to mind although it is made clear that the Master himself objected to extreme speeds either way.
I totally agree. It's rushed and doesn't breathe. His rendition of the same concerto with orchestra on the other hand is first class, properly astonishing.
Outstanding playing indeed. But I would be astonished if this was improvisation. I would think that every note of this has been arranged very very cleverly and without doubt written down, then rehearsed to the perfection we now hear.
@@jonil9999 Oh, so you reckon he's making it all up as he goes along. What rubbish. Now list the composers he's quoting. You better get your Shazam out because I bet you can't identify half of them !
@@DavidA-ps1qr if you think improvisation is synonymous with "making it all up as he goes along" then you are a fool. No, I don't think he is making it all up as he goes along but I know for a fact he is improvising around the themes as he has other videos where he plays the same themes differently. Also, what does being able to name composers do with Katsaris' improvising? You argue like a child, yet you are old enough to be a Grandfather, shame on you

Katsaris is a LEGENDARY pianist...
LIVING and a legend
I like the way he twist his wrists around in between phrases,as though he's conjuring up a magic spell for the next bit
Monsieur Katsaris arranges beautiful music, not only classical, but also other genres. ✨The Forbidden Games is also a sad and heart-warming piece.😢❤
Le maître absolu de la transcription! Ses vidéos sont prodigieusement récréatives...
One of a kind. A legend. An Artist. A genius. A super human.

Oleg Polyanskiy you forgot about Cziffra. Just listen - watch?v=aQ4_cpzcbFc
+Oleg Polyanskiy a few fortepianists can improvise, Robert Levin being able to improvise a cadenza. Most I've heard are for ornaments in reprises

Art Tatum of the classical pianists.Do you know Tatum's Dark Eyes?

Katsaris, an ocean of kind inspiration, thanks
speachless!
amazing
Every pianist has to learn by Katsaris. Unique playing!
him and Hamelin are my favourite living pianists

Cyprien Katsaris,in Japan,2014.Great!!
At least 2 trips to Japan in 2020. Lucky ones...
Spring 2022, 34th tour in Japan. Where? What? How? Success, Cyprien!
The trills in the Recuerdos de la Alhambra are incredible!

To michaël Wisse
Cyprien is inderdaad bij-zon-der. Als pianist, als mens en als vriend.
all my favorite pieces of music fused together.....
Love it! Bravo!
It'd be great if piano concertos were paired with imagery that added to the music
that'd be program music then, which the concertos are not intended for
❤Magnifique

This great pianist needs no orchestra.
yes they say to learn technique so it is no longer needed this is true of him
