    For picking up stitches, it's 3:4 on the vertical and 1:1 on horizontal, works every time :)
    Only child, no imaginary friend ..

    This video was soooo satisfying to watch!
    Side notes:
    1. I'm an only child and didn't have an immaginary friend; I did have a stuffed toy I was pretty obsessed with
    2. I would love to live in a household with a cat-to-human 1:1 ratio; we're at an ok 0.33 ratio right now

    • @BreathingYarn

      😂 I love the inclusion of the ratio!

    Bind off tip! I usually cut enough yarn to bind off 1/3 at a time. It decreases the amount of yarn I have to pull through each stitch and reduces friction since that weakens the fibers. Super easy to attach a new strand when I need it

      @BreathingYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s awesome! I’ll need to give that a try

    I crochet (knitting scares me, I can only make flat peices xD) and I am very slow. I enjoy the process and know that my work will be better than if I rushed myself! I love long and intricate pieces that take forever though! I love the sweater! It's gorgeous

    I always pickup up 3 out of 4 stitches vertically. I also use a smaller needle to do the ribbing.

    • @BreathingYarn
      @BreathingYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! I use the same size needle whenever I do twisted rib since it’s usually so tight compared to my stockinette.

    I grew up as a single child until I was 14. I had imaginary friends and would role play a lot with my friends making up characters n such. Most of my friends growing up also had a huge age gap with their siblings or only children. So you're probably onto something. Also, youre slowly motivating me to want to try to knit again.

    • @BreathingYarn
      @BreathingYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s awesome! I love the imaginary friends back story 😄 you definitely should do whatever you want, but I (biasly) hope you get back into knitting! 🧶

    When doing long Italian bind off I do three times the length of what I’m binding off and I sew with the excess thread doubled up though the needle (only sewing with one piece of yarn obvi)

  • @cozylyxa
    @cozylyxa 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I don't think I ever had an imaginary friend. I did have plushies that I treated with the utmost care.
    I do also have a brother, which I did a bit of mending for during this video. He has a job that takes quite the toll on his clothes. But since it would be expensive and wasteful to buy new clothes every time, it's better for me to mend them. Which isn't perfect, but it keeps his skin safe.

    I'm catching up on your two newest videos while I unravel a failed tunisian crochet sweater. The yarn is fuzzy/felted so its very finnicky but I've got a rythm going and I'm looking forward to transforming this yarn into something else! I'm considering a crochet sweater vest or a different crochet sweater pattern. Your videos are amazing!

    These projects turned out so good and it's always so motivational to see you finishing them!! I'm a slow knitter too - I once finished a cardigan in just 3 months and I was SO proud of myself! It usually takes me like a year, if not more!
    Also, it never occurred to me to do maths to figure out the ratio for picking up stitches 😅 I've always just trialled and errored it, and I guess my gauge is weird compared to other people's bc 3:4 or 5:7 as I've heard other people recommend often doesn't work for me, but 1:1 often does 🤷‍♀️
    I didn't have any imaginary friends growing up (I have 1 sibling, and also our mum was a childminder when we were kids so we kinda had extra honorary "siblings" around a lot of the time) but we did create imaginary characters for our games of make believe. They only existed for however long we played the game though so I wouldn't call them imaginary friends. Also I made up a lot of stories as a kid (I'd staple piece of paper together into a book to write them in, and I illustrated them and everything) so I guess all my imagination went towards that rather than any imaginary friends!

    • @BreathingYarn
      @BreathingYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s awesome hearing about your imaginary character history, love that you had such a creative mind at a young age!!! I’m also happy to hear someone else has different pick up tensions. There’s general rules of thumb that people like to point out all the time, but it’s proof that we are all different and not all techniques work for all people 🥰

    About that long picking up - no need to unravel it completely. Leave the picked up sts on the needle, check what gauge/yarn needle works, and on the first row DECREASE however many sts you need. In this case you'd work that first row (k1 p1 k1 p2tog)
