A tip for cutting access holes in drywall (regardless of using whatever kind of knife/saw/blade) - make your cuts at a slight angle pointing inwards. This way, when you put the cut piece back in the hole, it sits nicely, and won't fall back through and down inside the wall cavity.
Thanks LS, That is a good tip. I usually just cut the top and the sides and sort of use the uncut bottom as a hinge - that way, it can be pulled back and just hangs from the wall and can easily be pushed back in place without removing it. I like your tip though, I will start to use that when doing this from now on 👍😃
After seeing this, I didn't realize I was suffering with other tools when this provides a crazy-fast solution to so many problems. Thank you for the video!
I just wanted to say how much you helped me with this video. Thank you so much! It was absolutely perfect and exactly what I needed to know. I’m a older woman recently widowed and I moved into a house that needs a great deal of work, most of which I am attempting to do myself. My husband and I used to always fix up our homes together and while he was no Norm Abrams, he was well versed in using power tools. Sadly I am not and my lack of power tool knowledge has made my progress quite slow, so I decided to research the best tools to use and the multi tool was at the top of the list but to me looked like something so foreign and scary I couldn’t imagine what it could possibly do. But your video made it so very clear and concise I feel really quite confident about getting one now. Thank you for the extra steps you take in your videos for the complete novices like me who have no idea what so ever what there doing, I really appreciate it so very, very much. 😁
If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
Carpenter of 35yrs, this tool is a must for any tool kit, its the kind of tool you think you don't need until you see someone else using it, so many applications, saved me a lot of hassle many times.

Cool. Used my Dewalt 20v max tonight to replace an old drain tail pipe (thick chromed steel) on bathroom sink. It was the kind that screwed together from top and bottom and also has a nut on bottom to pull assembly down tight. It was all corroded and crusty. Popped in the fine tooth blade and cut it off just below the nut, unscrewed nut, and pulled out old assembly. The PVC replacement was about 3/4" too long, so I just used the tool again to cut about an inch off the end. I'm in love.
As a mechanic by trade I'm buying into carpentry kit for a house renovation. Great video I definitely want one because this Multi tool belongs in mechanics kit aswell! So many bolts and hidden parts I have needed to cut! With an angle grinder it's dangerous and difficult! This is perfect for many bolt cutting jobs. e.g. stubborn drop link bolts that just spin freely with nothing on the rear to counter that. Just slip this in and cut free! Brilliant tool.
The blades don't hold up well against grade 8 hardware. Tried Milwaukee carbide lasted about 20 seconds didn't make it through the bolt. Cheap harbor freight carbide blades did as well. Took a total of 7 blades to cut the heads off of two bolts. It has worked great for making new interior panels for the shuttle bus, had a few odd shapes to notch out.
@@craigwiess1656 I found the exact same thing! literally can't go through a standard nail and if you do then the blade is completely knackered! I just got a cordless version. Have had a wired version but rarely gets used because I need a cord. This should save me a lot of trouble. $99 for kit at HD right now with charger, battery, and two blades.
Got the same one! Man, I wish I'd had it when I was cutting a new hole in my cabinet to vent an over-oven microwave. Would have saved me from taking the cabinet down to cut the hole. Looking forward to new projects now
I will be cutting out lots of copper pipe from hot water heat system. My old carpenter used a reciprocating saw and took forever on one pipe. I have a multi purpose tool from Harbor Freight, has cord and not a Dewalt, but with your tips I think I can zip right through the copper pipes. Thanks
To be honest, the multi tool is not the best for that job as it will take too long. Best with a proper pipe cutter or reciprocating saw with a metal blade in it in my opinion. Thanks for the comment.
I have this tool ( came with the set), I knew some use of it, but not all. Thank you for allocating your time and show us/me all possible usages. I learned something new! ❤️❤️ Thank you
@@Bacrenfencing I used the tool to replace my doors. It become very useful to open nice& smooth slots for the door hinges. Impressive . Saved lots of time and hassle. 👍👍
Hi, I'm not sure. I have never tried but you do get scraper attachments for these, so that may work. I usually use an SDS drill with a chisel to remove thin set, it is much quicker. I hope this helps ? 👍
If you want to cut through a floorboard at the joist but there may be central heating pipes in a notch in the joist directly under the board is there a way to stop you cutting any deeper than the board thickness so you don't end up cutting into the pipes? I saw where my builder cut one and there were two pipes in the joist directly under the cut so I'm worried about attempting it myself Thanks for the video
Hi Kelley, The blades all have measurement scales on them, so you can establish the thickness of your floor and then cut with the blade down to the floor thickness by using the blade scale (if that makes sense ?) In other words, if your flooring is 22mm as an example, you can cut down to 22mm which is marked on the blade - that way, you know that you will not be going below the surface of the joist. I hope this helps.
I have used it to sharpen dull utility blades by holding the blade securely by pliers then making 2 angled passes from top towards the bottom per side using 240 grit paper ( I try to match original blade angles)
I recently used mine to widen the gap between two oak floors so I could house a threshold bar. So much easier than a circular saw and chisel for the bits the saw can't reach. Of course if I had bought the threshold bar when I bought the flooring I would have needed neither!
@@Bacrenfencing Just bought a 12V Bosch from an outlet sale for 75 euro, tested it out on some scrap lumber and I think I'll love it! Found a drill that uses the same batteries for another 35 euro too. It's surprisingly strong.
Hi good video. I’m looking to buy a multi tool and already have Dewalt drill and torch with their charger and 2 batteries XR 2mah. Thinking of the DCS355N tool ONLY, and using my 2 batteries between the others. Do you know if a 2 is strong enough for the multi tool and what kind of runtime can it get. ( DIY use) thanks for any help. Realise the bigger battery would be better but trying to keep cost down also the 2 x 2amp batts are new ‘sh condition.
Hi Victor, I tend to use the tool with 5ah batteries because I mainly use 5ah with most of my tools. The multi tool does work with 2ah and if it is just for DIY use then it will be fine especially if you have a second battery that you can swap out whilst charging another. I can't comment on actual runtime as never used the 2ah battery with it, but I am sure it will give decent enough performance. Hope this helps a little and thanks for the comment 👍
I work under suspended flooring a lot so usually cut a hatch in the floorboards on the joists. Used to use a circular saw but that’s too messy and easy to damage the boards. I use an Erbauer multi tool it’s really accurate if you take care and time when cutting. Great video, motivated me to sort the grout in the bathroom 😄👍
Thanks Lee, Yes, they are great for cutting sections of floor board / Chipboard but I tend to use my mini circular saw for that now, unless access is restricted. Good luck with the grout removal..........can be very tedious 😂👍

Great comment, I have not used it for that specific job, but I can imagine it would get the old gripfill off in seconds ! Cheers 👍😀
Got one of these. An amazing power tool that I could now not live without. It does the lot.
Agreed Neil, it is a great tool !
Glad i bought one with multiple blades. I have a kitchen remodeling project coming up and I am actually excited to use it.
Good choice! 👍

Great video. It's made me realise how much I've been missing one of these.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment 👍😎
I just got a cordless version. Have had a wired version but rarely gets used because I need a cord. This should save me a lot of trouble. $99 for kit at HD right now with charger, battery, and two blades.
I wish I lived in the US, these are double the price here in the UK ! Thanks for the comment !
Got the same one! Man, I wish I'd had it when I was cutting a new hole in my cabinet to vent an over-oven microwave. Would have saved me from taking the cabinet down to cut the hole. Looking forward to new projects now
Really good show, very informative. Thank you, Cheers!
Thanks for the comment !
Are all oscillating brand names blades compatible with each other like Milwaukee, Bosch, Ryobi? or is Dewalt specifc? Thanks.
Yes they are
Would this be a good tool to cut holes for electrical boxes in old plaster and lath walls?
Yes, you can use this tool for that but obviously have to be careful with lath and plaster. Take your time and it will do the job well for you.
Thank you for a very interesting & informative video...i didn't realize just how versatile these multi-tools are. You've been very helpful.
Thanks Neil, I just skimmed the surface of what this tool can do.........there are literally hundreds of uses - great tool ! 👍😃
Cheers for this mate, I am brand new to this tool; this video was so valuable 👍
Glad it was helpful Bryan, thanks for the comment
I prefer to use the wrong blade for each job to make the job more challenging.
Same here mate
I'm just too ignorant to know.
Easy mode is for chumps. Hard mode is the way to go.
thanks for this, lots of uses and examples and a clear commentary.

what is a short small sized multitool for tight spaces, about 20 cm ?
not sure what you mean
Really really useful video. Currently trying to replace a cistern with rusty wing nuts so will buy this to cut them off.
Glad it helped 👍
Wish me luck!

Will these remove thin set from underneath tiles?? If so, which attachment is used??
Hi, I'm not sure. I have never tried but you do get scraper attachments for these, so that may work.
I usually use an SDS drill with a chisel to remove thin set, it is much quicker. I hope this helps ? 👍
@@Bacrenfencing Thankyou 👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you!
I have used it to sharpen dull utility blades by holding the blade securely by pliers then making 2 angled passes from top towards the bottom per side using 240 grit paper ( I try to match original blade angles)
Good Tip, thanks for the comment 👍
thanks I learn alot from this great video.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks this was very helpful. Bought one before really knowing what I could use it for or how , so this was perfect cheers !
Glad it was helpful to you 👍😃
Cheers pal , i'll be getting one of these 👍
You will find many uses for it buddy ! Thanks for the comment 👍
Excellent video , very helpful. Thanks

can you use this to cut a circle in wood board?
Yes, you can use a blade like this, it will do the job amzn.to/3aLWBRu
@@Bacrenfencing perfect. thanks! i have just that blade in the bag :)
I recently used mine to widen the gap between two oak floors so I could house a threshold bar. So much easier than a circular saw and chisel for the bits the saw can't reach. Of course if I had bought the threshold bar when I bought the flooring I would have needed neither!
Yes Ian, it is a great tool with SO many applications. Very good for the type of job that you have explained, so handy ! Thanks for the comment 👍😀

Hi! is it possible to make round holes with these oscillating tools?
Yes, if you buy the right blades and take your time, it is possible. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@Bacrenfencing thanks! Which blades would you recommend please?
@@jd5787 It depends what materials you are cutting in to. Is it metal, wood, plasterboard etc ? If you specify, I can recommend some blades.

No
Just became a homeowner, thinking about one of these and a basic drill as my first household electric tools, worth it?
Yes, definitely worth it as your first tools, maybe add an impact driver as well as they are invaluable 👍😃

Bacren Property Thanks for help and speedy reply👍🏼
@@victorlazzlo7626 No problem !
The 2 runs about 6 hours. Got both.
@@scraplifetrashtocash4551 Thanks for confirming that, much appreciated buddy !
I have never had a tool like this. Can it be used to cut hardware cloth and chicken wire?
Yes, with the right attachment, it can cut pretty much anything - thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks 🙏 heaps. Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks😊
No problem 😊
I work under suspended flooring a lot so usually cut a hatch in the floorboards on the joists. Used to use a circular saw but that’s too messy and easy to damage the boards. I use an Erbauer multi tool it’s really accurate if you take care and time when cutting. Great video, motivated me to sort the grout in the bathroom 😄👍
Thanks Lee, Yes, they are great for cutting sections of floor board / Chipboard but I tend to use my mini circular saw for that now, unless access is restricted. Good luck with the grout removal..........can be very tedious 😂👍
yea but the B5 S4 though Lee lol
Very informative! Thanks.
