You can see Doug going out on the limb of trust. The little smirk on his face afterwards was like "typical Mastro". But seriously live blade stuff like that is so far into the realm of trust requirement that it's almost entirely inappropriate. You know those guys really know each other well and trust each other up to their eyes to be doing stuff like that.
These guys are absolute masters of their craft. It all comes down to training and practice. And a lot of it. You are right though. I have never seen anything that comes close to this demonstration.
Masters or not - there lies a degree - and a large degree of fuck up. You're bullshitting yourself if you think that some one would "let" this happen. I trusted a good deal of men shooting in close proximity to me... would I do it for a stupid fucking video? No. VODA does that shit.
Kuya marcada is awesome. Not just for his fearlessness, but the humility he has for being the "damsel in distress". Many egotistical instructors always have the need feel to be in spotlight. Inspiring kuya!
Disclaimer, i know these videos do not constitute training in anyway shape or form and just show what can be accomplished with rigorous training under supervision of trained professionals.
shouts to the man who put this together.....I respect the realness to get his point across. it caught me off guard when mastro put the life of his friend in the hand of another man with a live blade but I needed that to see the reality of a street fight amazing thanx again
Thanks a lot for this great Demonstration, Mr.Fred Mastro, and Mr. Guru Doug Marcaida, Our Body, has a lot of painful points, the Point is to Knowhow of the Body Mechanical ! Chapeau once again, for the " Street Reality ". Gabriel from Switzerland !
The element that is missing is intention. A person attacking you with intent on cutting your throat, or doing any other bodily harm, is very different from two guys doing a demonstration.
THIS! Powerful message here. Thanks for taking that beating for the team! Thanks to Doug for risking his neck. Thanks to Mastro for the teaser! Great video guys!
definitely the bomb... used to not be able to buy this...you learned at great expense...much pain and suffering along the way. when you find yourself in the shit and have this down ... victory. thanks for empowering others
with all of the people making waves about the live blade. To be honest, it's all talk until the live blade is in use. It's at that moment that you realize what Fred is doing works. Doug is an FMA Guru and this sort of thing is not unusual in that world. Fred is insanely one of the best and has made me rethink knife fighting and defense.
Great video...love learning new def. techniques from this channel. BTW, big thank u to this guy who took all these hits so we can learn how to be a lil more effective when it comes to defense.
I must agree with you Joshua but what Mastro shows here is beyond the level of trust and goes far into what is "ultimate reality" in these life and death situations. Yes a lot of us do train in the self perfection aspect of martial arts but we have to face the reality and go into self preservation because life may depend on it. In as far as the participants I have nothing but respect for Mastro and Doug and Beardless GN for bringing this to light. Thank you.
Im from durban south africa Fred ..i wudv loved to be in your class everyday Your system is going to topple many other techniques if not already ..wishing u success and love 👍👌
GN ,now the community can gain some great insight into what you are doing, this serves human kind ,to defend is the ultimate .any one can attack ,but this helps ,this is each one ,teach one ,great work in accepting the pain ,Ous
Doug Marcaida and Fred Mastro are simply great. Pure Gospel comes out of their teeth, no lying. And then we got all the rookie pigme self defense instructors on Tube.
Inb4 people say that this wouldn't work in real life and everything in the UFC is better but won't understand that this is for VIP and protective detail situation.
Nice work. Real martial arts training involves pain. Giving pain, receiving pain and dealing with pain. Anything else is not combat oriented and is okay for kids and sport arts only. We only use dulled metal blades but never live blades. I don't think that was his risk to take. But my hats to all three of them!
Hi from Australia. I'm very impressed by the way you explain how to react to each situation. Double thumbs up. P.s. I am wishing so much that you would make it to Sydney Australia to demonstrate and educate this necessary skill set. Regards Shanan mifsud
I would love to come to one of his classes, the real knife was scetchy but goes to prove this really works and that's what will save your life or someone else's.
That dead leg is intense. Some one did that to me before as a joke and I went straight down, zero stumble, zero words, and zero leg! People walking past me laying on the grown nearly in tears! I still to this day don't know who did it...
I love this stuff because I do self with people (training) and I accept the pain of the technique because that is how they know that it's been applied correctly. You need to know how the body responds to technique the way you apply to know if it's a viable technique for you. Not all tech works for all people. I love this guy's stuff.
Great to watch. Learning from these instructors would be amazing. And painful. I'd find it hard to remember anything if I keep getting smacked in the base of the skull.
I like how this video shows the actual reaction of an opponent or assailant instead of the average "He would probably react in this manner" because I don't want to put my life or the life of a friend of mine in the hands of a probability.
This works because of basic physiology. If I am standing close enough to hit you without moving my feet, and I don't telegraph, then you do not have time to recognize the attack and do anything about it before I hit you. The clock starts when the attacker's motion begins. The defender's nervous system has a bunch of work to do before he can respond by beginning his own motion. That's why nearly all defense depends either on maintaining distance or binding/trapping/grappling as you close.
I feel sorry for the guy taking the hits. Great demo. Those techniques are awsome. I would definitely take some classes if their were in the Inland Empire. Some where near Rancho Cucamonga.
Dear all, did you ever find a way to know what happens when you do things to others? Fred teach also that you know exactly the pain you are inflincting to others and how to deal with the force. With a good training, risk is decreasing and trust arise. That's why Doug have no fears, and the other guy do the job realisticly. If you train only with sticks, will you have the same reflexs on the streets? Fred is teaching for decades and all the time searching for all of us to improve techniques, find shortcuts, and delivers for free sometimes like here on this particular video the results where he achieves something. Thanks Fred. If there 's a price to pay, a little pain of somebody like the hat guy it's very cheap to get a chance to survive in difficult situation.
5:30 That moment your friends put your life in jeopardy for youtube. Holy fk. I also ended up in the ER doing live blade demo....after having done it hundreds of practice rounds.
Props to the guy taking hits for us
right I always feel bad for him
u mean the guy with the knife on his neck right
Jess Osborn twenty five percent 😂😂😂
I was literally about to say I was cringing every time for that dude.
steveshivik
so was he lol
5:31 "The day Doug decided it was time for new friends."
You can see Doug going out on the limb of trust. The little smirk on his face afterwards was like "typical Mastro". You know those guys really know each other well and trust each other up to their eyes to be doing stuff like that.
Smartest comment I've read so far.
Beat me to it! His face was great!
These guys are absolute masters of their craft. It all comes down to training and practice. And a lot of it. You are right though. I have never seen anything that comes close to this demonstration.

lol that man teaching the technique is belong to the fake martial artist he can not do that in highly trained person dough macaida is better that him
You can say anything you want about it but that was putting Doug Marcaida's life in jeopardy.
jeopardy and dead are like a strong sunset or fluffy little trees! Doug is getting old anyways and the tavern hunnies dig a man with scars.
any miscalculation and doug's throat would become blood fountain
***** Not like that it's not.
Alex Trebek is on Jeopardy!
@@johnnywishbone932 It could Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel
I know my comment is 6 years late haha
Good Job Doug standing there for this!! Mastro and Doug are badasses!! Props to the guy getting beat up for this demo!!
Damn bro you were getting f..ked up. Thanks for takin one or six for the team.
Kuya marcada is awesome. Not just for his fearlessness, but the humility he has for being the "damsel in distress". Many egotistical instructors always have the need feel to be in spotlight. Inspiring kuya!
Lol. The look on Doug's face when he pulls out the knife... Priceless!
Fk the camera I wouldn’t stand there
I love these videos. From a guy who has tested his skills on the streets makes this so much more worthwhile to watch.
Disclaimer, i know these videos do not constitute training in anyway shape or form and just show what can be accomplished with rigorous training under supervision of trained professionals.

I never cease to be impressed. Trust amongst friends is notable here.
To the guy taking the hits and coming back for more, just so that we can a realistic demonstration of these techniques... Bravo and thank you
Mastro you madman, you are a frickin genius!
I love watching your videos
Merci Fred pour la démo simple et efficace ! En plus avec ton accent je comprends tout ! Tu es mon idole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GN- mad respect for the authentic demo. Doug and Fred are the real deals. That took balls.
GOTTA COMMENT, THESE TWO GUYS ARE OUTSTANDING. FANTASTIC WEB SITE.
I don't think the comedy is intended but these shots this guy takes are funny. Respect.
Doug marcaida's impressions are just perfect :D
Oooo Turk :D
5:28 " take the knife, brother!" 🤣 awesome!
The way the body reacts differently to being hit in different places is so cool, like pressing buttons on a machine.
The element that is missing is intention. A person attacking you with intent on cutting your throat, or doing any other bodily harm, is very different from two guys doing a demonstration.

I rarely comment on youtube stuff but i just had to pop in and say I really like what i am seeing from mastro self defense .... solid
Great video...love learning new def. techniques from this channel. BTW, big thank u to this guy who took all these hits so we can learn how to be a lil more effective when it comes to defense.

GN, dear Lord you are brave. Man those moves are painful! God bless brother for taking the pain so we can see the real deal martial art in action.
Inb4 people say that this wouldn't work in real life and everything in the UFC is better but won't understand that this is for VIP and protective detail situation.
Hey way to take a hit! Those nerve strikes are no joke!
, Amazing! Thanks for sharing this video 😊
Excellent demonstration, thanks for taking a beating for us!
At the end of the video I was left in awe, very good.
I keep learning more and more from the video you guys produce.

Never volunteer to be the attacker for Fred 😯
Extremely impressed 💪🏼🇨🇵
killer instruction and the simplicity is amazing
I have to say, I laughed. I laughed because 35ys ago I learned some of the same type of lessons. You'll never forget.
I just love the look on Doug Marcaiodo's face during that whole session.
He knew the guy was crazy
Unreal! Very impressed.
"How much you love your wife?"
Fred Mastro: "10 percent" 😂
Tnx for the video. I also martial artist and i apreciate the techniques, keep on making videos pls.
I would love to come to one of his classes, the real knife was scetchy but goes to prove this really works and that's what will save your life or someone else's.
Outstanding techniques, Excellent video. Keep up the good work.
That dead leg is intense. Some one did that to me before as a joke and I went straight down, zero stumble, zero words, and zero leg! People walking past me laying on the grown nearly in tears! I still to this day don't know who did it...
Wow. Great job by Doug and attacker on this one...amazing to watch. Entertaining alos.
I like his striking style, very relaxed and powerful.
Reminds me so much of the old SCARS program but much much more refined.
I love this stuff because I do self with people (training) and I accept the pain of the technique because that is how they know that it's been applied correctly. Amazing. Going to feel those for a while.
by far the best Funker vid :-) lol
These guys are phenomenal!
I like how this video shows the actual reaction of an opponent or assailant instead of the average "He would probably react in this manner" because I don't want to put my life or the life of a friend of mine in the hands of a probability.
anybody know the name and type of wristwatch doug marcaida is wearing?
Took it like a champ, good job.👍
Best video I've seen so far, I learned alot. Thank you.
I need more of this and the Muay Boran!

I'm liking Fred's work very much. Many thanks.
There is something special with Mastro, every little move that he did looks solid and seems to hurts like hell.
I would love to go to a mastro class but there is nothing in the Fort Worth Texas area
Can we see 100% on something like a punching bag? 25% looked crazy, imagine 100
hey is The 600 XT Karambit and Dart gonna be made this year?? the upgrade to the 599 XT SERIES ????
Awesome guys!!

Did you see his eyes when the blade was pushed on his neck at 5:25.....laughed so hard.
What knife is Fred using? Not the stick, but his folder
that was great!!! Salome my brothers
5:30 That moment your friends put your life in jeopardy for youtube. Holy fk.
I also ended up in the ER doing live blade demo....after having done it hundreds of practice rounds.
Hey guys what knife was used on the video?
I love how Doug is like, of course it's the knife to my throat, get it over with already.
No. I have no doubt Doug was thinking, 'wtf'. As good as they are, that was risky. Not denigrating the demo. Just recognizing reality.
Awesome ! I love your videos.
Amazing stuff ,,,,,ever come to Texas
where are classes offered?
When are you guys coming to Chicago????
Doug's facial expression was priceless 😏
I love these guys!!!
wow fantastic! I'd like to know what martial art it is based on
lol at dougs comical little smart assed smirks while his mate is copping all the hurt XD i love doug XD
can you guys visit san antonio tx? please let um know. thanks
I live in N.Y. do you have a training you tube videos
I agree with this training sometimes you have to feel and know how to strike and administer pain or you won’t be able to do it for real
