Wendy the dolphin/sea lion trainer (Doug was the main trainer). I was working there at Paradise Theater and enjoyed with working with the whole crew including Dave the Sound man... Tony/Steve/Rich(?)/Karen and the others whose names I don't remember as clearly. Those were such good times. That year and the following 2 I would experience at the Rides were amazing. Paradise Theater closed soon after that season in 1987. I was honored to have worked there as an usher/theater attendant. I miss you guys, wherever you're at!
Thanks for posting this video. I enjoy watching old amusement park videos. I find it kind of odd how Great America has had quite a few owners. First it was Marriott from 1976-1985, then Taft Broadcasting from 1986-1992, then Paramount from 1993-2006 and now Cedar Fair 2007- present. I'm glad its still open after all those transitions of ownership. I hope to go here eventually. :)
Smurf Village I was 4 in 87. I dont remember what year I went but I clearly remember the smurf village. 2:05 The beds the tables the houses were all kid size. I remember the flowers were white and round just like in the cartoons. That whole time frame was EPIC.
I went to "California's" Great America recently on a company trip. It was my first time in the picnic grove and ONE OF THE SMURF HOUSES WAS IN THERE!!! Although, it was gutted, and painted bold blue and purple. Made me sad. But I was FREAKING OUT that a smurf house was there!!!
I think this is not the marriots great america i was looking for. I typed in the santa clara great america. Which then became paramounts great america. I know we had no dolphins.
THANK YOU! for posting and sharing this with the world.

The day I realized I was too old and too big to fit into the life sized smurf houses was the saddest day of my life.
Wow thank you for that! I have a photo in that shark on the carousel, I was 8 :D
This was an awesome bit of nostalgia. I remember as a kid getting picked out of the audience to get pulled on a raft by the dolphins around the pool.
the octopus was killer !!!!! loved that ride sooo much

I don't remember a dolphin show but I sure remember the train. I miss it.

At least you saw it.
love it, went there so much, I was in 4th grade in 1987
It was nice to see these. I never went to the smurf section. If you have any pictures still or video, that would be great.
