This is the best subwoofer video demonstration on youtube. I've always wondered how subwoofers were made, but this video, the process, the high quality materials used all combined with the care and attention to details, has made me love this brand more than any other audio equipment. I definitely need more products from DD. Thank you for building such great products!

That's strange, because your page doesn't have a single video of your 9521s you claim to own, and even your upload thumbnails are just random pictures from Google of various setups. With that said, I'm totally sure you own a set of these, and just seemingly don't have any footage of them whatsoever, but instead just BS music clips on your page with random back photos
Awesome video, it would be sweet to see where the motors, surrounds, and baskets get made. I find the manufacture of this stuff very interesting like the best episode of how it's made 🙌
The surround and coil are also made in USA by our supplier, however there are just some parts that are not accessible here in the U.S. anymore like the magnet and basket, otherwise we would also source them here.
I got a DC audio level 6 18" sub with all the upgrades and the silly thing was just shy of $3000 Canadian. Dd has some of the highest RMS values out there and some sweet looking units! Keep American manufacturers going!
I'm a fan of car audio since I was 15, I used to repair old garbage subs without any knowledge because I was poor but I had basic knowledge in electronic components, I always wanted to see how these where made, I thought everything was machined, seeing actual people making the cones by hand amazed me! the lady doing all the resin work is talented, the skills of the assembly and all the process is outstanding!, I never heard of this brand because I've been disconnected 😉 from car audio but my I will buy my next sub from you giys to help support the hard work.. great video!
Very cool to see how you do the composites portion. I'm in the middle of making tooling to manufacture my own product from carbon fiber. But I gotta ask--why not use peel ply on the back of the cones? I know nobody is going to see the back side, but I would feel obligated to make it as neat as possible.
4:50 Would it be possible to make an inner mould or something so you don't end up with wrinkles on the bottom side ? For example people who want to show off the sub in an inverted mount.
I always loved digital designs speakers. Never had the money.for these beauties though.. (Work harder, as I am lazy). Anywho, would you hook one of these to a wall outlet? Would love to see the results. Bet I would be just fine.
We do have a Neo magnet subwoofer, check out our Z3 and Z4 series: ddaudio.com/series/z4/?status=2&global=2 and we also use neo magnets in some of our speakers like our very popular high output coaxial VO-XN: ddaudio.com/vo-series/coaxials/vo-xn6-5a/
@@DoRC No not really. Neodymium costs several times as much as ferrite for the same magnetic strength, so it's only worth it when weight is a concern or when you reach the limits of ferrite motors.
The only thing I do not understand is why can’t you sale direct to consumer? I have to go through a dealer to buy these subs. The dealer mark up is no joke ether. That’s the only draw back I have with the company. I feel like a great opportunity for direct to consumer sale would be awesome.
We do offer our standard build subs online at www.ddaudio.life/. At this time we do not offer custom options, but dealers cannot sell above posted retail price. We do post the standard build prices on our webiste.

The design is currently patent pending and might offer a new option well situated for consideration for a company like yours. Also see the comparison of magnet weights in the TH-cam clip titled “causes of voice coil burnout “. I look forward to responding to your feedback. Thank you.
Besides strength, what advantage is there to using the composite cone over the regular cone? Less mms? Improve efficiency? Trying to decide if i should order mine with them. Cant find any info on them.
Strength is the main advantage is systems over 160s. The carbon cones are slightly lighter, and will be a bit more efficient, but not enough to make a noticeable difference when listening to music.
I just ordered 2-15’s (9915c’s). The shop I purchased them from didn’t specify which spiders to get. I’m assuming they come standard. If I were to opt for 3 layer would that be additional cost?
@JoseFlores-fm2vc- Unless you are giving each subwoofer @ least 8,000 watts, and just doing SPL burps, the standard suspension is the way to go. My friend had a D16000= (8k R.M.S.) Massive Audio amplifier, on a pair of DD 9500 15s with standard suspension, and it was great. Then a year or so later, he thought he wanted the stiff= extra spider option. So he sent his stock 9500 15s in, to get the full carbon/kevlar cone, and dust cap, plus the Extra spider option= stiff. Well lets just say that when he got them back, they were so stiff, they didn't budge with that 8k on a pair, and they were so punchy, they would give you a head ache. I didn't like them @ all! My friend spent so much $ on these upgrades, and on his power level, didn't even get 1 Db louder! He sold them, not long after getting them back. Then he got a 12" DD 3500 with the soft suspension, for SQ= he was much happier. Like DD says, the standard suspension is what most would prefer. Stiff is for high powered SPL burps, soft is for half of the rated power handling, or less, and def. Set your subsonic filter correctly, as the soft can bottom out very easily Hope this helps?.

Is dd so scary of their loyal customers getting hold of baskets and Coils? Spent 1200$ on a woofer and can't get something so simple. It doesn't matter to me anymore as I decided to never get ripped off again by building my own subwoofers. I also don't recommend dd anymore as other brands are more willing to bend the knee to paying customers.
