I am confused why the base glass does not have a uniform layer of silicone spread between it and the next base glass sheet placed on top of it? it would create a fully laminated Base glass panel and be very strong. With these splodges of silicone to bond both sheets as in the video, there is now air gap between these panes of glass between the splodges of silicone, so it is nowhere near as strong as laminating with a complete silicone layer method. I understand the reason behind the steel outer sections, it basically mimics what Jewel and Fluval, Rena etc do with a plastic brace.

@@Luckingsworth Really?, other then a uneven surface or things like rocks on the stance would make you think that that is counter intuitive. I guess the smallest little unseen bump could cause a failure,
Does the stainless steel expand/contract at a different rate to the glass? Will this break the bond at some point or didn't you put silicone on the inside edge of the stainless on the sides? It seems wood (oak) has the same expansion ratio (close) with temp to glass.
being that most tanks are heated to the same temp and the water will keep the stainless steel almost the same temp there is no expenditure
Like you, I always find it best to lift heavy glass sheets with open toed sandals on.
