    All things being considered, it’s a very nice bike and with that 5 year warranty...bam! I agree though, in this day and age you should be able to shift to four wheel drive on the fly. Thanks Buddy! Great review!

      @SteveRobReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Doug - so far it's been a rock solid machine and the windshield is just as rock solid and great for use on the roads , it's the most powerful atv i've been on and I can drive for miles behind the windshield and not have the wind wear you out . You should get one eh :)

    I have had 4 can am outlanders, 400, 500, 650, & 850 and everyone besides the 850 have over 5000 miles on them and I have always shifted on the fly, and no issues, I was surprised that someone read the owners manual.

    • @bettysmith4527
      @bettysmith4527 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, I was shocked when the manual said that as well, as I just bought the 570 XT and I did actually open the. manual. I had a 2017 DPS 450 I bought new as well, and I never stopped to put it in 4x4, never had any issues. 🤷‍♀

  • @ChrisLMeyer-gw1cl

    You can shift the Can-Am into 4wd without the need to stop. They put this in their manual to protect the transmissions from folks that shift into 4wd while the rear tires are actively spinning freely in the mud/snow etc... If your rear tires are free spinning and you engage 4wd, it will cause mechanical issues. If you are just cruising along below 10mph, switching into 4wd does not cause any issues

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Chris it seems many agree but they could just put what you said in the manual too :)

    You can shift to 4×4 at slow speeds. I had a 500 for 11 years and never did any damage by doing so. Just bought a 2020 570 max xt. Good video Rob 👍..

    It's a nice looking machine 👍 you're right, not being able to get into 4wd on the fly is a bit poor in 2018. I'm sure it will serve you well, especially with a 5 year warranty

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did ask one guy that has the machine and he say he just flips the switch anyway and it works fine moving slow but most times i'm already moving slow and don't need 4wd :)

    Hey fellow Canuck! Two Can Am outlanders (2014 800cc and 2016 1000R) and never had an issue disengaging my 4x4 on the fly. I run tracks in the winter and I plow with it. Nice quad! Enjoy!

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4wd in 2018 should be on the fly but its fine for me and the windshield is terrific now compared to the first one and it solid and sturdy now, the best part is its high enough the wind just goes over my helmet and that perfect. I think its a great atv so far.

  • @rubenruben8656
    @rubenruben8656 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I may add. That when you take your thumb off the gas level to switch into four wheel drive your back wheels are not spinning, your atv may be moving forward but your wheels are not spinning because you are not giving it gas.

    Wow 3 hours on the trial. Your arse must be some tuff!!! I have a 2010 500 Max XT. I have to slow down to almost a complete stop to switch in and out of 4wd . You may as well be stopped. It is annoying for sure. Good to see you back at the camp. Have a great week!!!

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and my thumb was just as numb 😂 It seems to be an odd 4WD system when so many shift on the fly. Nice rig overall.

  • @farmboy30117
    @farmboy30117 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would think at least you should be able to go to 2wd without stopping. I like the box on the back, good for tools that aren't used much. Looks like a real nice machine.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay overall it's a great machine so far but only time will tell. Seems everyone likes Honda and none of my friends ride a honda at my camp LOL Its arctic cat and polaris and they like them. My last one was arctic cat but my dealer stopped selling them and started selling Can-Am . Rides like a cadillac compared to my old one.

  • @Erated78
    @Erated78 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice looking machine. I own a Honda ATV and it has me convinced that my next one will be a Honda as well. Although, I rode a buddy's Suzuki King Quad and that was impressive too. Hope you have many, many years of fun with your new machine. Cheers

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks and up here honda is the most seen and polaris next and most I see are the rubicons . The suziki does make a great machine as does most but the standard 5 year bumper to bumper warranty on mine was something not one manufacture has so I thought i'm either going to need it or they are confident in their machine and won't need to use it. LOL

    • @SteveRobReviews

      Thanks Lloyd and so far most see the 4x4 switch as a problem as well. Cheers

  • @Blazer02LS
    @Blazer02LS 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The shift on that uses a collar that slides over two splined shafts, basically like a front axle disconnect on a GM. As long as all 4 tires are turning the same speed and you are not on the throttle or braking at the time, you can shift while moving. Basically the same as all the other 4WD ATVs.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You said the exact same thing a guy I know said to me and he has been doing it for a couple of years now without a problem. I think Can-Am could explain the system better in their manual allowing for exactly the conditions you state but some would engage it maybe on a slippery surface and the tire speeds would be different . Fot me I keep it in 4wd if i'm on a muddy trail anyway . Cheers

    • @Blazer02LS
      @Blazer02LS 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Product liability. Much easier to say. "Stop before engaging" than trusting that people will pay attention to "Slow down and don't shift if a wheel is spinning"

  • @gabelanger
    @gabelanger 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It never bothered me to stop to put in 4 wheel drive, i'm not in that big a hurry so stopping is no big deal. Canam make the best 4 wheelers .

  • @ShyaMiss
    @ShyaMiss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Quite honestly, I believe that they are just being overly cautious about the 4wd engagement. If they simply state that you MUST stop before shifting it, then that pretty much covers all possibilities of abuse of that system. I have an 07 650 Outlander, and it is shifted in and out of 4wd while on the fly, ALL the time. I am careful to never be on the throttle while shifting it in or out, but that really should just be common sense.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree as it would be hard to cover every situation as to when to shift. I have not encountered and problems shifting so far. Cheers

    @stuzman52 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very nice machine and as you said, the 2w/4d switch option probably won’t be a show stopper for you. Being a new model one would think one could shift while it’s moving. I’m sure you’ll get many years of enjoyment. What did you do with your other one? 😀👍

      Honda seems to have set the bar pretty high for other atv manufacturers. It would be an obvious feature most atv drivers would check out before buying one but i assumed and you know how that goes :) I don't mind the 4x4 switch stopping to change but I can see plenty not liking it . Yes its 2018 Can-Am .

    I also own a 2018 570 Outlander XT, and use it exclusively for work on my small farm in the Missouri Ozarks. I replaced a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700 with the 570 and I am very pleased with the power and handling. This bike has more power than my sportsman and is much easier to handle.
