I recently bought one of the accel 240 Silky 4 -5 months ago to use at the High Mountain Homestead in my wood lot. THEY ARE AMAZING !! I like it , So Much,, I ordered anouther to keep on my 4-wheeler. I wish they'd been availible when I was working with the Forest Service building and maintaining trails , man would that have saved me some serious elbow grease ! I worked with them for >16 years and have used every saw known to man and these Silky saws blow everything else out of the water . Believe me, if you don't own a Silky saw,,,get ya one, you'll never go back to anything else !!Seriously,,,
After owning many budget saws and knowing how well they work I can honestly agree with this review. By far, these are the best portable saws you can get. I have used Fiskar, Corona, and other box store saws. Being able to swap out blades for different teeth is a plus. I own two Silkys, the pocket boy and it’s larger big brother. Silky has raised the bar for others to meet.
As an avid hiker the PocketBoy 130 has earned a permanent place in my pack. It may be small, but it can be a workhorse, for trail maintenance among other uses. Also, I've gotten to where I cut my walking stick when I actually need one. Good review. The Silky "Outback" version as well as the Bahco Laplander come in earth tone colors, so I use a bright colored chord as a lanyard to make it easier to spot on the ground.
I have had the big brother of this saw for about 2 years and I've been very happy with it. I mainly use it around the house, for trimming unruly shrubs and trees, but I keep it stored in my 'get home' bag in my vehicle. I would recommend it, but I would also caution those who are a little clumsy or not handy with tools. This saw is incredibly sharp, and it can be dangerous if not handled properly. I would also recommend carefully cleaning any sap off of the blade before putting it away. It will prolong the life of the tool.
They have this they are showing in video and they also have a big one you can carry in a holster they are both really great I do landscaping here for the city and they have both of them love them and I use them daily. They only cut one way since it’s from Japan so going backwards instead forward cuts faster.
I’m pretty new to the Silky Saws too. I had the Bahco Laplander for a long time., and a Fiskars too. But the Silky blows them all away. I went with the Gomboy I think is one of the mid-size models. I like the pocket one. I gotta pick one up. Great review as usual. Keep it up. 👍🏼
BS! Blows them away by about... a few seconds when cutting the same wood? Fiskars has the same teeth, they are almost identical in terms of performance and speed...
I own 3 silky saws. I love them all 3. They are amazing. My latest one is a Katana Boy. It is a great no fuel chain saw solutions. Perfect for processing campfire wood or building a larger structure.
The Silky saws are phenomenal! I got the Silky F180 (which is a bit cheaper than the pocket boy but more useful in my opinion because of the slightly longer blade and slimmer design) and it is just awesome. Never had to sharpen it, it is so light weight that I put it in my EDC bag (I don't even feel the extra weight) and it goes through branches like butter. Very sturdy. Just love it - was worth every cent! Oh yeah, get a set of gloves - Trust me, you will need them when using these saws. They are super sharp!
High carbon steel is only important when using Flint (the rock) and Steel. Only two things you need to scrape ferrocerium rods: 1. It needs to be harder than the (relatively) soft ferro. 2. It needs to have a sharp or abrupt enough edge to scrape shavings off the ferro. I've used river clam, oyster, etc shells with ferros. Tin cans, stainless steel knife and saw blades, sandpaper, etc with ferros.
Ive been into silky boys for a while now!! I cant believe my husband and i still dont own one. Its really an excellent tool to have. Its perfect for our tacoma along with the rest of the stuff we are still currently working on. Thank you sootch for an incredible content. Youre always an inspiration to everyone.
Absolutely. I have the pocket boy and big boy. I gifted a katana boy too that I wish I had myself. I use the big boy more for home landscaping than anything. Good reach and fast cutting
Two of these are on my get-it-next- paycheck list. Lots of medium sized limbs down in my yard that i need to cut shorter so the city will pick them up.
Silky saws are the bomb!!! I have this Pocket Boy, but they have dozens of other models of varying sizes, some fold, but others don't. These are designed by arborists for a variety of different tasks. The ergonomics are always fantastic and the quality is unrivaled.
Silky makes great saws. Check out the Outback series they've come out with now. Just a tip, though: ferro rods don't care what material you use to scrape them... anything will work. Carbon steel only matters if you're using flint and steel, since the flint strikes the spark off of the steel. With a ferro rode, the scraper tool scrapes the sparks off the rod. As long as your scraper is sharp-edged and doesn't crumble apart, it will make sparks.
Outstanding Review Brother, I always follow and Respect everything you do, to help inform people like me, I also love Sportsmen Guide, I've been a member since 2010, They have the Best Customer care service I have ever experienced. Thank you Brother for Sharing. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God Bless 🙏 You and your family and God Bless America 🇺🇸 and the Republic
I started out with the Pocket Boy and liked it so much I added added a Bigboy 2000 to my 4 wheeler tool kit. Great saws, just remember that they cut on the pull stroke and you shouldn’t have any trouble.
Hi Don, Another great video. When I get mine, I will try to get a piece of bicycle inner tube to slip over it. It can be used for ranger bands and the rubber will burn black for signaling if needed.
I have had this for several years. As he said, it is fantastic. I carry it around when doing yard work /light trimming. I also have the somewhat larger Silky GomBoy which mostly gets used after storms if there is not a lot of debris and the chain saw isn't needed. Both these saws almost make it seem like a knife through butter. When you want good cutting tools, the Japanese are hard to beat.
I do alot of ground work in forestry and have been looking for a saw that will fit my cruise vest & be able to cut alder, young trees, deadfall. This seems to be a good option thanks for the review.
Great vid. As an arborist I use the bigger Silkys while climbing. Been thinking about the Gomboy for my bag. These saws will cut through your fingers with ease. Plenty of arborist with tendon damage and orher wounds from these saws. With a 7,000 lb 12mm climbline under tension of a climber, one miss lick with these saws will cut the rope immediately. As easy as a chainsaw.
Been camping with axes, machetes, and/or large knives, for years. Once I got the Silky, I realized how many calories I was burning by chopping fire wood. I use my Silky's around the yard on a regular basis.
I recently purchased a silky. Mine is the smaller yellow handled one. It works great. Wranglerstar has a video comparing the longer blades with the shorter blades and the shorter blade cut through faster.
Great review! Anytime I buy some survival gear or anything along those lines. I always see if you have anything to say about that piece of gear I’m gonna buy. Your opinion is highly accepted and keep up the awesome work!! Also, thanks for all the great reviews on Maxpedition. All the bags I’ve ever purchased. Your reviews are the ones I watch first. I do wish they still made their gear pulls. Keep up the great work
I have had one of these for a few years and they are really good. It can handle handle pretty much everything you would need it too. If not do a step up to the gomboy.
Silky's are great! Bit of a learning curve on Japanese saws, cutting on the pull stroke. It's easy to put your strength and weight into a Western cut saw blade on the push stroke. Do that with a Japanese blade and you'll bind it easy. Pull cut saws are all about rhythm. The Silky Zubat is also an amazing saw!
In case you haven't seen them, Silky have a range in the Pocketbook, Gomboy and Bigboy range called the "Outback Editions". I think you would really like those ones as the blade has a blackened nitride coating, the hinge mechanism metal hardware is black while the grip is in a Dark Tan colour that I'm sure would resonate with you and your Chanel viewers. I have both the Pocketbook and Gomboy's and will add the Bigboy simply because these are amazing. Check them out.
Looks like a great product, only thing is I've been using the Gerber brand folding saw because it comes with a bone saw for cutting that pelvic bone on deer when field cleaning. If they decide to offer the bone saw I'd be interested 👍
The one thing I never see as part of a saw review video that is always found in knife reviews is what type of metal the blade is made of. I read that with my small yellow Pocketboy, Silky uses SK5 steel. I’m not sure what other types of steel they may use.
Love the silky, but always thought the pocketboy was a bit on the small size. I prefer the Bigboy 360. If I've ever got the money to spend, I'll buy a Katanaboy but that's not today, sadly...
I love my Wicked, but I can't give you a comparison because I havent tried the Silky yet. I plan on ordering a few in different sizes to try though. Price seems pretty similar to Wicked.
I've been using Silky saws for around 6 years now. They are my go to everything saw. No more crappy bow saws or any other hand type saw. These saws almost replace a chainsaw in many instances. Worth every penny.
I’ve got the 130 curved. 8 teeth per inch. And the 240 Gomboy extra large teeth. I love them. If I had the money I’d buy a dozen of them. I have had bahco’s, Fisker‘s, Coleman’s and Coronas. And none of them are worth it. Save the money. The time. And the frustration. Get a Silky! God bless. Also you can just buy the different teeth sizes as spare blades. And simply swapped them out.
Before i used hatchet or tomahawk. Now i use folding saw ( a pocket boy 170) and my backpack is lighter and i like my saw Very fast for cutting , better than big knife and hatchet and less moisy

Been meaning to add one to my kit for awhile however your video re-reminded me. Ordered and scheduled to be here Monday. Thanks.
I’ve been debating over the last 3 years to put one of these in my B.O.B. looks like I’m going to have to get one now.
They have this they are showing in video and they also have a big one you can carry in a holster they are both really great I do landscaping here for the city and they have both of them love them and I use them daily. The best folding saw I've ever owned hands down!! Good stuff Don 👍!
Absolutely.! I love it.

I purchased a silky Gomboy 240 curve last year and i love it, its a beast

These are by far the best saws. I have the Pocketboy, Gomboy and Katana 500 and couldn't be happier with each!

Sootch you're gonna run out of trees and brush just from this one video 😂 great video bud!

That's what she said it never gets old! Lol thanks for the review!
God bless America from Scotland 🏴
Can't go wrong with the pocket boy!

Ty for the review on this saw. Nice demonstration of what looks like a really good tool.

Great idea
I love it when I see a video on products I already have lol
8:06 Yeah, be careful. I had a moment of panic in the intro.
Hope you had soap handy.
I have a yellow, curve, with the course blade. Love it.
Very good tips always! Greetings from Argentina

Thank you for sharing Don.
Need to get one of these, like to be able to check out the different models.Blade lengths etc... Stay safe and God bless 🇺🇸☠️🇺🇸!!!
Survival Russia would be so proud!
Oh I always get a good feeling if an item I take with me in my EDC survival pouch is reviewed favorably :)
Completely agree. I've sawn down my lilac tree with joy today (not many branches survived ... 😂). Recommendation!

Silky is one of if not the best folding saw on the market in my humble opinion. I have a pocketboy in my get home bag also. Great size for that.
I recently purchased a silky. Mine is the smaller yellow handled one. It works great. Wranglerstar has a video comparing the longer blades with the shorter blades and the shorter blade cut through faster.
That is really good to know. Thanks for the tip!
I sure like mine. I didn't see you show the 2 position settings for the blade for cutting angle change. Thanks for your content.
Very very nice, not a bad price either! Thumbs-up video Brother ~John
thank you sootchoo for the saw video today!!! keep the video's coming!!!!!!
Very Cool Survival Saw !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great review , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Beautiful saw for the outdoors thumbs up and shared.
Which one is the best all around one to get if you are on a budget and can only get one???
Great review! Anytime I buy some survival gear or anything along those lines. I always see if you have anything to say about that piece of gear I’m gonna buy. Your opinion is highly accepted and keep up the awesome work!! Also, thanks for all the great reviews on Maxpedition. All the bags I’ve ever purchased. Your reviews are the ones I watch first. I've had two different sizes for many years, SUPERB! After Silky Gomboy you can throw everything else away.
Thanks for mentioning the Poison Ivy! I was about to say something!
I like the added length of the Gomboy. Watch the ivy! Wondered if you saw that. 😂
“At least that’s what she said” 😂😂 Enjoyed this video!!
I have had one of these for a few years and they are really good. It can handle handle pretty much everything you would need it too. If not do a step up to the gomboy.
Thank you for the video.
Not just smooth, it’s SILKY smooth.
Yup its a very good saw. Small enough to fit into most any bag but still good enough to be useful

I use my silky instead of a circular saw for small jobs around the farm ...cuts fast and my cuts are spot on :))
I like my fiskers. Works well and has for years only 10 bucks.
I think I’ll buy one!
Thank you for the video . Good information. Best wishes
Looks like a great product, only thing is I've been using the Gerber brand folding saw because it comes with a bone saw for cutting that pelvic bone on deer when field cleaning. If they decide to offer the bone saw I'd be interested 👍
I have cut many white tails up with a Silky. You will be good to go.
I going to add that saw to my cutting tools.
Silky also has an outdoorsman line now for the pocketboy, gomboy and bigboy models.
Great video thanks for the review.
Silkyboy pocketboy.
Love mine! :)
The one thing I never see as part of a saw review video that is always found in knife reviews is what type of metal the blade is made of. I read that with my small yellow Pocketboy, Silky uses SK5 steel. I’m not sure what other types of steel they may use.
I have a similar model, the Silky Super Accel 21 (7.5)
Really like Silky.
Like most saws and shovels, it's also a good improvised striker with F&S.
6:48 I can confirm she said that 🤣
Love the silky, but always thought the pocketboy was a bit on the small size. I prefer the Bigboy 360. If I've ever got the money to spend, I'll buy a Katanaboy but that's not today, sadly...
How does the Silky brand compare to the “Wicked Tree Gear”?? I was impressed with the Wicked saw that you demonstrated in the Battle Box!!
I love my Wicked, but I can't give you a comparison because I havent tried the Silky yet. I plan on ordering a few in different sizes to try though. Price seems pretty similar to Wicked.
Love my silky saw
I was in the process of mentioning you were cutting in poison ivy but you already picked up on that!
Only question is how would you sharpen the teeth if they go dull? Looks like a great addition!
I've been using Silky saws for around 6 years now. They are my go to everything saw. No more crappy bow saws or any other hand type saw. These saws almost replace a chainsaw in many instances. Worth every penny.
Yay new sootch!
Like the 170, nice size
Great saws. I I think the corona folding saws are comparable for a fair bit less money.
RE VISITING YOUR VIDEO, AWESOME, ( TODAY IS FEB. 4, 2022)
So if your in an urban Survival situation will it cut metal, plastic. What ever you need to cut in any situation
Nice ! Glade you mentioned the poison ivy. Guy Speight
I recommend the $10 dollar COGHLAN'S 'Sierra Saw' folding knife saw. It has many years of reliable proven performance !
Ty you sold me on this over over the Laplander
I’ve got the 130 curved. 8 teeth per inch. And the 240 Gomboy extra large teeth. I love them. If I had the money I’d buy a dozen of them. I have had bahco’s, Fisker‘s, Coleman’s and Coronas. And none of them are worth it.
Save the money. The time. And the frustration. Get a Silky! God bless. Also you can just buy the different teeth sizes as spare blades. And simply swapped them out.
That's funny. I was thinking, is that poison ivy??? and then immediately after he confirms it 😂
Before i used hatchet or tomahawk.
Now i use folding saw ( a pocket boy 170) and my backpack is lighter and i like my saw
Very fast for cutting , better than big knife and hatchet and less moisy
Is that Poison Ivy by the big log you were cutting. LOL I have a Silky Gomboy in my 4 wheeler its awesome.
My game kit has a folding saw in it for cutting bone.
I like the Curved version better, abd the 130 mm one is so compact!
can you please do a video on a hori hori knife aka Japanese garden knife
Cool tool..
It's one of those brands almost everyone agrees with.
Find the right one for your application and they're the best.
I have one just never used it yet.
Check out the new Outback editions...I bought all 3. Fantastic!
Will the Glock 27 clip fit in it !??
