This reminds me of my late grandmother, she was born and raised post ww2 Japan, when she was really happy she would sing kind of like this especially when I was little. When they said sayonara I almost started crying it sounded so much like her,
I think a big reason why many of us, particularly Millennials, feel a nostalgic vibe for these songs and videos is because they mix footage that reminds us of old animes we've watched more or less, with songs that remind us 80s funky/R&B artists, such as Michael Jackson, that most of us grew up with.

I discovered Plastic Love because my girlfriend (now fiancee, she's japanese) asked me if I knew it when started to play in a karaoke, where we went two years ago, in Shinjuku. She sang it quite well although her voice is lower... I must thank her for taught me this classic, 'cause within a few months I was already immersed in the city pop (and my style has always been heavy metal...). But it's so addictive, exciting, melancholic and warm at the same time, purely from the 80s, a type of music that instantly grabs you.
