      Thank you Jane! Pat has taken the guesswork out of topiary and streamlined the process. What's left are fun, relaxing projects that allow for plenty of creativity yet are hard to mess up.

    What a fun and inspiring video - thank you! I loved seeing both the process of making succulent topiary and the finished pieces. How clever to add some roses to that tabletop sphere-shaped topiary! I had no idea they could last so long, or that it was so easy to add more succulents if bare spaces showed up. I have admired the life-size succulent people at the San Diego Botanical Gardens (in Encinitas) for years, and it's not surprising they're the most-photographed part of the garden. Pat is a treasure, and I can see how making one of the mail-order kits would be great fun, or why going to Samia Rose Topiary in San Marcos for a class would be delightful.

      Thanks for a lovely comment, Susi! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Pat is certainly one of our San Diego horticultural treasures. I'd done wreaths and cones, but not topiary animals. I was surprised at how easy they are. Thanks to Pat, I'm confident I can "keep them going." Btw, adding the roses was her idea.

    I chose a bunny, dog and tabletop orb. The bunny I gave to my DIL, the orb is on my deck, and I debated whether to keep the dog unplanted (moss filled forms look good even without succulents). Do you agree it looks good partially planted? Should I do its legs? WWYD?

      I liked the look of the bare legs. What about giving the dog a planted collar?

    I have a question for you. Every year Costco will have a wonderful small topiary-type of arrangement using succulents just like yours and they, too, have a mossy base. I always kill mine within 4-5 months. I think I must over water them, so when I heard you say to be sure that the moss is wet when you water the topiary, it made me wonder (again) how I always kill mine. I got them 2 years in a row in the spring when Costco would put them out but I didn't get one this year because I figured I'd kill it again. lol How often should they be watered? I obviously over watered as it did rot out.

      So hard to say without knowing more about the frame, the moss and the plants, not to mention where you're keeping it (indoors or out) and where you live (your regional/seasonal weather). But let common sense prevail! If it rotted out on you, water it less, and give it better sun exposure and air circulation.

    Thank you for this video! I have a turtle form that previously had ivy, and I'd like to try this project since I have lots of succulents. What is the name of the pins used, and where can I get them?

    Where can we buy the pins used to attach the succulents? What are they called?

    • @QueenofSucculents
      @QueenofSucculents  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pat provides them with her kits. They're U-shaped floral pins (also called fern pins, greening pins or florist's pins) available from Michael's or Amazon (affiliate) amzn.to/3t6wHPn
