I dont mean to hurt youre feelingd but that was unnecessarily long winded and after making people muddle through it you could have at least told us whether it worked or not
After replacing the neutral safety switch on the clutch, the starter, the Ignition, and battery cables it ended up being a starter sellinoid switch part number motorcraft F5-TU-11450. Cost was $24 at Advanced Auto Parts. 9/17/23. Replacement took 5 mins. Skill level is you can do with your eyes closed. Need a 14 mm wrench and 8mm socket. My wife helped turn the key with the clicking noise comming from the drive side fender area. I located the part bolted to the inside of the fender. Everyone needs the wifediagnostic expert, she really saved the day!
My 89 Ranger is doing the exact same thing. It used to be that if I wiggled those wires it would start, but now I get nothing no matter what I do. I ordered a new relay, I hope that does the trick.
Did you ever get everything going? I'm assuming you just had a wiring issue. I've been through every wire of my 1988 Ford ranger 2.9. Replaced the starter solenoid, new battery, replaced ignition control module, and the ignition switch under the steering and I still can't get it to turn over. It cranks all day just no spark. The coil is new, rotor cap and bug are new.. I'm absolutely lost. Any ideas?
@@Theonewho85 when you turn the key nothing? What happens if you short between the starting relay with a screwdriver? If still nothing then it has to be a bad relay or starter or wire to stater
what year is your ranger the wire you said going from starter solenoid to the starter i don't have that mine is a 93 ranger 4.0 motor I'm having wireing issue too my spark plug wires are arcing i was to it could be a bad ground wire or the plug wires im seeing a white flashing lights at the end of my plug wires
@@barneywarwick2110 The ground wire goes straight from the battery to either a motor mount or the frame. I've also seen the ground wire go straight to the engine block, usually between the mount and the block or the frame and the mount whichever will provide a solid ground. I have not ever seen a ground wire from either the battery or solenoid to the starter. The starter is grounded from being bolted to the bell housing or engine block for that matter.
So im having kind of the same issue, my 90 ford ranger, bought a new battery and I’m not getting any power to starter, fuel pump cluster, the lights inside turn on but thats about it.
I had something similar happen to a 4runner I had and now to my ranger. On the 4runner it was a grounding problem and new wires fixed it so I'm assuming in replacing your wires it essentially fixed the ground connection
I have a 99 ford ranger xlt 2.5 engine front wheel drive and a evap code along with a catalytic converter code shows up with no check engine light on, what do u think the problem is
Have you checked the start solenoid? Turn the key and cross it from you start and hot with a screwdriver and start the truck that way. It will tell you if it's the starter solenoid.
I took another look. My positive was just getting a touchy connection. I disassembled the post, cleaned off the wire and terminal connector tightened it all down and it started right up. Thank you for the video.
My Ranger pretty much made a click every time I'd turn the key and assumed that the starter had gone bad. I replaced it with a good known used one that I had in my parts box and still made the same sound. I removed it and tested both only to see that both of them do work. I replaced that ignition relay with a brand new one but still does the same thing. Do you think that this would just be a grounding issue or something else?
Did you check the starter relay? Maybe bad contacts in the relay. Starting system is pretty simple, from the battery to the relay, then to starter, so I’d check all those wires and connections. There’s just a ground wire that goes from the battery to the frame just inside the wheel below the battery. Also maybe check and make sure the motor spins over, it’s not locked up somehow.
@@radozeman thank you I'll be sure to check all of that when I get home. I know the engine isn't seised since I took a breaker bar to it the other day.
All of u commenting that chevy is better obviously are saying so for the image since you are commenting on a ford video which means u obviously watched the video cuz u own and or wanna fix your ford !!!!!!
Pick your brain. Got a 92 ranger 2.3. Blew the 60 amp ignition fuse while driving. Turn the key to run and Found a direct short on that fuse. But with key off no short, But cant find where it is shorting out at.
Mine has doing the same exact thing and I'm on my 2nd starting solenoid. I bought a standard brand and a cheaper one. Long story short I don't even get a click. But the dash lights come on n gauges work. But nothing at all
It’s burning up the solenoids? Lights and rest of the truck are connected to the battery side of the solenoid, only thing it turns on is the starter, which if the solenoid is burning up I suspect either starter is drawing to much juice probably going bad or wiring is bad

Check that the connections on the wires are clean as well before you put the new one!

Yes, removed and cleaned the wires on the starter solenoid
Did you ever get it going I’m having the same issues Ive replaced every part you’ve said to still nothing
I wish mine was that simple. I have no idea what's going on

WRONG he says it cranks but doesn’t get spark if you’re not a mechanic don’t act like it and admit you’re a hobbyist

That's not good! Check the plugs first maybe? Wires? Coil? Ground
is there suppose to be a ground wire going from the battery to the starter or a ground wire going from the starter solenoid to the starter

If it is just those few items, might be a fuse or two?
I have the exact same problem on a 2004 Ford Ranger. I ended up replacing just the terminals and the issue was resolved.
Nice video, is you positive from battery and positive from starter on the same post of the solenoid
No, battery is on one side and starter is on the other. Battery side has the rest of the trucks connections.

Just cleaning the positive terminals on the starter relay fixed the problem.
@@radozeman I'm gonna try that right now, currently working with this same problem on my 99 ranger...

I tried shorting with a screw driver, nothing!
Can pls clarify hot and start
My ranger is doing the exact same thing. Has that permanently fixed it or has it done it since. Seems too easy.
Yep, no problems since!

Change out your ignition switch. it's in the column. I was chasing that problem for ever.
Lol. You said "Battery definitely has juice. NO QUESTION ABOUT THAT!" You popped yourself, didn't you?
What can cause the main fuse of 80 w to get heated and eventually melt

Im having the same problem w my ranger. I got the wires to redo it but haven't got to it yet
Put a new starter relay on the truck
Did that fix the problem
Yes!
Check your battery voltage first, if that is good, test your starter relay, and if that is ok buy the $15 ignition switch and install it easy fix.
Problem was a poor connection between the relay and starter.

Sooo,...did it START?
Talk about leaving ppl in the lurch.
#anticlimactic
Oh yes, it did!
The thing you're working on is called a solenoid, the rangers have one on the firewall and one also on the starter.....
I don’t think there is one on the starter
@@radozeman
Does your starter have 2 cans joined together ? If so, the little one is also a solenoid
EladKooc no it does not
Sounds like your cylinoid is shot just had that same issue on my lawnmower turned out it was the cylinoid
I don’t think so because the rest of the truck would have power yet and it didn’t
The rest of my mower didnt have power either
A bad one can act like this too it's very odd. But You did what I would of done first too.
Did you every figure out what was the issue with the Ford Ranger?
I think it was just a poor connection between the starter relay and battery.
No, I was told that it is electrical. Also i was advised to check crank sensor, or starter fuse
My battery is brand new.. but, I turn over key and nothing.. no click, click,no nada..
Check the starter relay! If the starter relay is working then it is the starter.
I have lights and radio????
Lol should check your ignition switch in your column if it falls apart which they do there old. It’ll legit do nothing
If the ignition switch is the culprit, that would basically act like a dead key correct? If so, is there any way to bypass that?
My 1989 Ford ranger turns over but won’t start
Start with the basics, is it getting fuel? What about spark?
That’s a nice truck my man. Oh and I got the laptop with an AMD graphics and so far so good 😬😂

You might wanna get a starter wire diagram. I think you might have that backwards. Then again, I might be wrong on that.
That’s the way it has been as long as I’ve had it
Old Ranger love it thank lord it was not a gmc a ga man Chevy

Of course it’s Ford, I won’t be caught driving one of those bow ties 😎
