This was the best version of Swing Low that I had ever heard, back when I was doing my bit in small-town venues. BW & co was the only band I had ever heard do this version, and no one could touch them. They are up with the best.
I had to watch this several times to make sure that was Sharon, goodness. Ricky pretending to join the band for the music when he had his eyes on Sharon the whole time. Good job Ricky.
I realize that this thread is old but I feel I must respond. As a 'person of color' I happen to like this 'all-white' crap. I also listen to all genres of music. I've seen Ricky play twice and got to meet him. I've never met a blue-grasser who didn't accept me for me. I've reached the half-century mark and I refuse to limit my musical tastes to what others would deem appropriate.
HeavyMetalBluegrass Dear Heavy Metal, I like you, have found that most if not all people who love Bluegrass music are the most down to earth, non judgmental people I know. That is, except for people who try to change Bluegrass! and they do not like that. I think if more people were exposed to the good Bluegrass such as Buck White, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas and the old standards, they would see what we mean. To me you are just another fan of bluegrass, and just because my skin is light and yours is dark, should have nothing to do with that or the way in which we look at each other. I just wish that our president would accept that fact. I am over the half century mark by 20 years, and I wish I had actually found bluegrass when I was young. See you later, I Hope. Mike.
If it weren’t for an African American musician who met up with the white proto-bluegrass mountain pickers, there would be no *blue* in bluegrass. Moreover, there would be no *banjo!* You can still hear the blue note although few pickers ‘round here are aware of how it got there. Blues songs are still part of the repertoire, like Sittin’ on Top of the World. My fav story: when my son heard Nirvana’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” his jaw hit the floor. He knew it repeated and unwilling hearings of the band rehearsing “In the Pines.” Both are pretty straight covers of Leadbelly’s “Black Girl.”
Absolutely brilliant people, long live the beautiful and talented White family ❤️
I have all three of the albums from Buck White and the Down Home Folks, and they are a wonderful family band. This video proves it!

Sharon is adorable and such an awesome voice.
was cute...
very good young Ricky wow!
In Texas the bluegrass has a distinct flavor of Western swing that I especially love. I’m happy to know that Buck got his start with it.

It's just plain honest music.
