After years and years at sea, I've learned the sea and schedules don't usually cooperate. Forcing a schedule takes all joy out of the sea. SOOO, as you can guess, I'm in the section of devoted fans that feels you go when the boat is ready and not a day before.
So good to see the joy on Maya's face while playing music! We'll see it on Aladino's face when the engine fires up!
Alodino, your workmanship warms the heart of this old carpenter/boat builder. 72 years old and I still learn from what you do.
Your plan is not only incredibly wise, taking a shakedown sailing break for a month or two is like stepping back to appreciate the masterpiece you've already created. The bare bones finished project is a testament to your craftsmanship and hard work. It is truly remarkable.
As I've observed the progress you've made, I can't help but have a sense of wonder and awe. The dedication you've shown to this project is admirable, and it is evident in every meticulous detail. The boat that we see now is a beautiful testament to your skill and passion.
As I said in an earlier comment, as an armchair sailor, I never thought I would become so engrossed in a refit project. I have been avidly following your videos for some time now and I couldn't resist becoming a Patreon supporter. I fully understand how much hard work it takes to produce quality content like you do. Your videos and storytelling are simply magnificent. From the enchanting narration that captivates and sparks deep thoughts, to the classy and meticulously crafted videography, and fantastic music, everything about your content exudes elegance, class and attention to detail. It's also the way I imagine you and Aladino to be in real life - refined, relaxed, full of charm and chill.
And that musical break in the middle of the video? Absolutely fantastic! It added an extra layer of enchantment to an already extraordinary journey. It showcased not only your talent as a craftsman but also your ability to infuse artistry into every aspect of your work.
I am eagerly awaiting the completion of stage 1, the short sailing break. It will be a moment of well-deserved celebration for all the hard work and determination you've put into this project. And beyond that, I can't help but anticipate the symphony of music and the dance of craftsmanship that will lead you to the final completion. The journey is far from over, my friend, but with your talent and dedication, I have no doubt that the end result will be nothing short of breathtaking. Keep going, and embrace the excitement of the road ahead.
Absolutly correct, enjoy the journey and don't focus to much on targets. Goals attempt to change which is perfect.
amen
Yes! Maya the musician is back! Loved the energy and passion in the song. ❤
My partner and I took 12 years to build our Vertue class yacht Tui of Opua. We had the advantage of having the purpose-built building shed in the backyard of the house that we were living at the time. We built the Vertue from scratch using the drawings from the designer Laurent Giles and Partners from the UK. It was my first yacht building project . We decided very early in the building process to complete the build before launching. After taking the building shed down we were able to have the mast stood and I completed the mast rigging and fitted the pre ordered sails. We went sailing 3 hours after launching and I must say we were both very pleased. That was over 30 years ago and we have lived aboard for 26 years and apart from the regular maintenance we have not altered or changed any of the main features of the yacht. Changed to LED lighting , renewed the standing rigging etc .
I not aware if you are in contact with other owners of CG yachts but their advice would be of assistance I'm sure. But my advise would by to launch when you are both ready . Bruce
Consider not caring what your audience thinks and reconsider continuing on with the project between now and over the summer, thru the early fall. Yeah do a few quick test sails and then tweak what is needed, get it finished, move on-board and then set sail to head down south for the winter. Remember, we are all here mostly to admire your efforts on your refit and then we all know you'll eventually sail her, just like you did on Magic Carpet 1. The journey is the destination and forget about what you think of what the audience wants. There is no doubt that totally finishing her before you go will be fully satisfying. Then you can relax sailing and visiting new destinations, instead of doing boat projects in exotic destinations. 😉
Your plans are very well thought out. I believe you’re making good choices. You both need a little break, a little enjoyment. And when you make the winter to “finish” don’t let that stop you from splashing again. Time to move ahead will be long past by then. You’ll know it too.
That is one beautiful boat that should last 100 years.
I'm in the 3rd camp... Letting you make whatever decisions you choose to make, without criticisms or judgement. I love your channel.
I'm in the 3rd camp as well how dare people tell you what to do with your boat if they are tired of watching the build then so be it unsubscribe it's that simple go watch a different channel
MCII is looking more beautiful every day! Unfinished, yet we see what a jewel she’ll be when complete. Sounds like a good compromise plan moving forward. She really is becoming a work of art.
After a hectic work week (crunching before the holiday) and then a hectic holiday (hosting a bbq for the family) I cannot express in words how grateful I am for this moment. Fresh cup of tea in my hand I now get to unwind and spend the next 20 minutes with you on your journey.
I generally do not read comments. I do not know if other people have told you. But this working class father thanks you from the bottom of my heart. You have made sailing - an activity I thought the sole province of the well-to-do - accessible to us plebes. I do not think I will ever have enough resources to sail the world, but the waters of the Chesapeake Bay now seem within reach.
In addition, the fact that both of you are such relatable down to earth folks; the fact that you are both unique personalities; the fact you do so much of the work yourselves - well, it has earned both my respect and a place in my heart. Thank you for the inspiration. Thank you for providing a quiet place for me to unwind each week.
My two bob's worth? As an owner of a timber trailer sailor. I say Keep going! Besides watching Aladino Is a true crafts man . I have learned SO MUCH. Keep[ it coming. Maya, I know it's been hard on you, Your eyes tell the true story. It is ALMOST over. I for one cannot wait to see her relaunched. I'm down in Australia and have followed YOUR channel from the start.
A very logical solution to you situation. Get the boat in the water with the basics, go have some fun doing sea trials and iron out the bugs and snags. Then come back and finish off what needs to be done so you can put here back in the water next year and go sailing for ectended periods. Thank you for sharing and it so good to see Maya with her violin once again.
Magic Carpet, magic craftsmanship, magic planning, magic music. Just pure magic! You are doing it right!
Absolutely love the fiddle piece. The bluegrass revival Canadian style. Fun!
Much Better to know in your heart of hearts the Boat is up to your high standards and shinning as Beautiful as she is!!......Nice compromize doing a shake down cruise but hopefully you'll totally complete your job list before you're set Free!! Aladino, you are a talented person with a huge design brain and magic hands!! You are a boat building Warrior!!.....And Maya, along with doing excellent boat jobs, You are a Truly Talented Musician, you Rock that fiddle and move with all the runs!! I'm so happy you formed a trio, all 3 Are an Excellect match and you will go far together! Congratulations on all the progress you've made!🎉❤❤
You two and your boat will be fine. Don’t look how far you still must go, look at how far you have come.
It’s a good plan - it will give you a chance to take a step back, use the boat, and figure out what you really want as you do the finishing touches.
Well you can tell it has been awhile sense you last played a tune for us. There were so many notes hold up in your fiddle and they just came poring out. The boat gets moved and out comes the music with a smile. Thanks
Sounds good guys. Yes, you must enjoy your journey. You're doing great so far. Happy to be along. Cheers.
Boy that was great fun ! ( mini jam session ) 👏👏👏👍 as for all the rest , I've a very simplistic way of life :
Your boat , your channel , your rules ! 🙏 I would only encourage you to both be true to yourselves , and do what works best for you ! 🙏
Your true fans will always be here waiting for whatever you post whenever your ready to post it 😻😸😺
Hi Maya and Aladino, Congratulations! Must admit I cried tears of joy for both of you watching Magic Carpet II inch closer and closer to launch. What a journey for you both and your online fans. All the best!
Loved, Loved, loved your song! Excited to meet your trio in the future. Your boat is really gorgeous. Thanks for letting us tag along in all your adventures.
Aladdino must have realized by now that he has a very special person by his side.
Maya is a highly talented musical artist, and now she will gradually have to divide her time between the boat renovation project and music.
Well, I'm not blind not to see the joy with which she performed that string duet flawlessly.
Well, I believe that one day the trio will be much more well-known and even professionalized.
Maya you are, very special.
To all of the above, Amen! In my youth, I played the violin from elementary school to high school and beyond to play under the baton of Antonio Brico (a student of Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius,) as a member of the Boulder Philharmonic orchestra. Now as I approach my 80th birthday, I am delighted, humbled and grateful for the "symphony" of your lives as you share them so generously with us. Thank you both for your candid sincerity, talent and dedication restoring Magic Carpet II.
Good decision on your near future move. Remember you can"t rush perfection. Maya you are very talented to play so well and to help with all the other jobs, including varnishing the way you do. Don't worry about the delays for your followers, we enjoy your videos when we see them and fully understand the time taken to produce them. Cheers Ian.
Maya on the violin always puts a smile on my face. More please.
We all wish you the very best shake down, your plan sounds wonderful.
Take your time. Watching the transformation and learning something is far more interesting than watching you eat baguettes and coffee in a foreign land.
Watched the original without the added music on Patreon and loved it. The addition of the lively tune was very perfect. Thanks!
I can tell you that you're making really really good progress every week. That's so amazing and everyone can learn a lot about craftsman work (also those who are in the business for quite some time). Take your time to prepare everything and make things as perfect as you want to. It's your home.
Seen Tally Ho is doing similar. Summer shake down, then return to yard.
A good deal of my past comments have been raving about talents of both Aladino and Maya in the rebuild process. Today I am amazed at how talented Maya is in relation to her artistry with her violin, now I am equally blown away as to her ability to compose her own music. Very Impressive indeed!!! Cheers
Now that the shed has been removed, we van see what a beautiful boat it has become! You both must be awfully proud of the result of your work!
A vessel capable of crossing oceans should be done on the vessels own timeline. Never take the ocean lightly. You will know she'll let you know when she's ready, safety first.
The music is great, but watching aladino work he's a true artist & perfectionist it never gets old! Looking forward to some adventures too but whenever.
7:43 Loved the smile on your face. You were in your element. 😊
CLAP,CLAP,CLAP,CLAP!!!! Amazing fiddling and I am always happy to hear your music, but this was a special treat. Thank you so very much, and be safe always, from the Philippines.
On your two month sea trial you can use your I phone to navigate? Maya can do some events with her little trio. That would really be fun, not only for her but also for us. The song she wrote and preformed today was spectacular. Great job. MCII is looking great.
'To thyne own selves be true'.. and thanks for sharing with us your exemplary artistry and dedication.
Sounds like a very sensible and well thought through plan. Looking forward to watching you in the water later in the year ☺️ x
Oh my gosh you guys! You just got a shout out on Philip and Anna’s channel - How to Renovate a Chateau (Without Killing your Partner). That’s amazing!
What a lovely tune. So glad you have found like minded musicians and are able to use your musical brainpower.
I am here regardless of whatever decisions you make. I am so looking forward to the finished project and joining you two out on the water kicking some ass!
Your launching plans sound spot on. And Maya, it's always a joy to hear you play, you are very talented. I look forward to seeing more of your new trio as well!
So nice to see your creative mojo back, the storytelling of the boat being moved was so lovely and well done and reminded me why I loved your channel when you first started out.
"More boat projects more sailing and more music" sounds really good to me :)
I have watched you since day one. What fabulous work you have have both done! As M ass would say " it is looking spiffy". Well done.
To add to the (as you expected) split comments, I would probably also pick the path you've chosen. Even if there isn't a universal "right" choice, I do think there's a right choice for you, and I can only agree that this seems like a incredibly well thought out and solid plan. It also scratches that itch to actually sail a bit, and not just build and work. I do think it's strictly better than fully finishing the boat without any trials, and on the other end finishing it once permanently in the water and adventuring who-knows-where will most certainly severely hinder large progress, if not halt it entirely. So this really seems like an incredibly smart middle ground!
Edit and side note: the one song by Daniel Sinclair on Spotify really was worth listening to, thanks for that recommendation!
I couldn’t take the suspense, so I joined Patreon to get updates. Whew! I feel better. Love supporting you.
For me, the boat building could go on forever. There are plenty of sailing channels (actually way too many), but real professional work on a boat is much more rare- I really appreciate Aladinos "Swiss Düpfelischisser" approach 😬
Maya, you music is knee slapping, to say the least! Simply amazing!! ❤️❤️
Your boat are looking beautiful. Looks chic. 👍
Look at Sailing Yaba. They had to leave early and now the work is 10 times more difficult being offshore.
Your boat is gorgeous - a remarkable improvement over the vessel you purchased. I am so glad you are nearing the end of the project and will soon be in the water!
Sounds like a sound plan. A shakedown cruise will be useful for refining your designs, but I’m guessing it’ll be a huge morale booster, and you’ll come back to the project with far more energy and enthusiasm :-)
I know your work is not finished, but she is such a beautiful boat! Well done to both of you!
"Love, excitement, and energy!" [as you said in the update] All three were beautifully apparent in the added musical interlude! The joy on Maya's face as the notes fairly flew off her fiddle; that made my heart sing, and put a huge smile on my face!
Ah, so many islands and inlets in BC. Just a wonderful place to recharge your batteries and to be able to get back into the building swing. Lovely memories from sailing in Desolation Sound and can only imagine how many fun adventures you will have. Enjoy. I remember wonderful evenings on the boat and hearing beautiful music on the water from a fellow boater.
Oh, Maya, what a joy to see you glowing as play with another greatly talented musician. I can't wait to see the whole trio! As one who is in the second camp and loves to see the exquisite work going into making MC II your home, and also as someone who joined you early on in your Med days for your amazing storytelling, I think that your current plan is perfect.
That was an incredible performance! Your composition is beautiful, and your playing is of professional quality. The way you blended the violin and guitar was truly impressive. Thank you for sharing your talent! Can't wait 'till the entire band is together. ;)
Yup……the second camp is the way to go. If you are like me, being on board and sailing, constantly looking at things that you feel need doing, would drive me crazy 😜 👍
Yes please and let’s bring more music to this channel happy maya happy aladino happy followers xxxx
Great plan to take a break and learn about your boat as a floating vessel. Have a great time. 😊
Never heard you play the fiddle before, only violin. Love it. I knew you had it in you. 😉
I love to see the joy when you play music. Keep up the good work!
Wow! A lot of incredible talent on this channel! Both music and craftsmanship!
great plan, great music, great fun video. Go sailing! Enjoy the summer and complete the boat over the winter. Life is short and I think you have found a good balance.
Beautiful boat, wonderful move and best of all beautiful music!! 😍🤟
The boat is beautiful. The lines are amazing. Your plan seems well thought out.
I have enjoyed watching the refit. I say do what you want, don't feel pressured by comments. This is your journey and thank you both for taking us along on this journey. Love Love what you have done!
Solid plans, glad to hear you’ll get some time aboard and enjoying sailing this summer 🙏
Combo is a great plan! Life is short...this blue marble ride is NOT guaranteed ! Squeeze every minute to the fullest!
Please ignore all the commenters telling you you're doing it wrong. It's your boat, do it your way, take your time and get it right before you try to sail the seven seas. The work is always great, the music is always great. Keep doing what your doing cause your doing great!
I am very impressed by your "hard work" How you continuously solve emerging situations. Have built a few boats myself and know the work you put in.
Very interesting to follow your work
Good luck!
Finish the Boat before you Launch. YABA's going through the very thing you described...she's afloat, but not finished, and while they're having a ball, the work they could have finished in the Yard is three times more of a hassle than it would have been at the Yard...
Love the update and yes indeedy a bit of an adventure on a boat that's not quite perfect and then back to the boat yard with a good sense of how she sails and how your lay out works. Brilliant 🙂
Well holy smokes! Thinking of when the refit had become so heavy for you there for a minute and seeing you playing such a fantastic song that you wrote I thought “ well there she is”. That level of joy surely is contagious.
Sounds like a great plan, and as a virtual passenger who is itching to get out on the water it will be a lovely break for us too, can't wait.
I’m excited for you both. I bought a boat in February in upstate New York. Did all the work to ready it for the water and now it’s mid July and the only water it has seen is rain! Partly nervous about putting it in and part other obligations that have kept me from moving forward. Point being, get the boat in the water and have some fun!!!!!! Rob
Great plan! You two are wonderful!
The work that you've done is excellent. Go for it and see how she handles and acts, enjoy the adventure. Nice music.
So good to see you coming back to the fiddle giggle!!!!! You rock girl. Boat looks so nice!!!! Water coming soon!!!
I have fitted out two boats in my life, the first was not finished and never was, it was good to sail so we couldn't be bothered finishing it. The second we fully completed it even though it was a slog, we sailed it and to be true either one was the same once in the water.
Watching you two fitting it out to a very high standard it seems the fitting outperformance appears to be more important, of course, I can be wrong!😉
A great plan! You’ll return from your sea trial with renewed energy to really refine the details.
How I loved to see and hear you play music again. The skill and the feeling are so genuine it made me happy.
Sounds like you have it figured out. Love your workmanship Aladino. Love your 🎶🎶🎶 Maya.
Maya playin` violin!!! Fast hands!!! I was very impressed by both tone and speed.
I love your pedantic refitting. If you can over do it…then over do it. It`s so satifying to watch. Thank you so much.❤️❤️❤️ 🇸🇪
Music = excellent. Watching u = pure joy 🇨🇦❤
Wow!! That tune was awesome! Well done and thanks for sharing. You are a gifted musician and writer.
You have truley created a new work of art and behold a few tunes to sail along with all your hard work congrats You will soon be enjoying the fruits of all your labor congrats on a job so far complete sucess is right around the corner, Its nice to know that the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train LOL.
All the best, your music is always a highlight to your videos. Keep up the good work and by all means keep creating wonderful music. Look forward to your next wonderful video. Cheers!!
As you were talking I was trying to remember what the area you are now in looked on our first visit! Don’t forget to go back and look at where you started. And thank you for the wonderful music
Wow! So good. Thank you and I look forward to more boat work and music. Take your time. What ever you do, as long as you are sharing it and have the fiddle with you, everything will be great.
How Great the Sound.....of you playing and your long name song is Beautiful!!! As Magic Carpet was waiting to get moved I noticed how Beautiful she looks! From an ugly ducking to a beautiful Swan! You two have done such an amazing job! Love your plan, love you both! Thank you for sharing!
Perspective is everything 😂 she looks so tiny on that lift but then compare her to magic one and she is huge....😊
Love your entusiasm go for it splash the hull and you Will find out what missing! Take your time you are close to the finishline! Byte the Way its a beutiful sailboat💕❤
I like the compromise postion, that will be give you a better understanding of the boat. very wise, try and avoid letting your audience pressure you
Fiddle music, love it. You guys have made a beautiful transformation to this boat. I am reminded of the story of the ugly duckling.
I've been following you since the Mediterranean adventures.
All the way I´ve been amazed of how well organised and look-ahead you are.
This episode does not disturb your truly responsibility for things that have to be done before next step.
I love it and still looking forward ... to whatever you present next. Hugs to both of you!
Sounds like a plan! But any plan is ok as long as it feels good to YOU! Keep up the good work.
