    A few things I'd like to add in is that, well, in my experience of playing XX and Xrd then going into strive( I sucked at the older games I am not ashamed to admit it lol),the only thing that really carries over is input commands, a few Roman cancel properties(the whole cancelling from a move mid animation part atleast) and really that's it.
    Xrd is an entirely different game, it's much faster, the combos are much more bombastic and longer, with way more brutal scaling. Oh, and that's not to mention the entire book you gotta learn to figure out how to fight a single character, since weight and height actually mattered in this game so certain combos or even strings won't work on every character.
    Basically, go into this expecting it to be a new experience, other than just being like strive, because even if a few of the mechanics are the same, it's an ENTIRELY different learning experience

    Man, you're on fire with the uploads. Thank you for doing the heavy lifting lately & saving Xrd lol
    Another thing I'd also add for Strive zoomers would be that you can't throw while running.
    EDIT: Also, game is 50% off on Steam atm after the permanent price slash too so its hella cheap rn! Now's the time to get the game if anyone's on the fence!

    Thanks Jiyuna.
    I'm so ready to get back into Guilty Gear again. Was at CEOtaku when the loud announcement happened.
    This Xrd rollback resurrection is gonna be insane like BBCF's. These high tournament and locals turnouts giving everybody a reason to jump back on the game.

    Much as I love the game, these are the sort of mechanics I emphatically don't miss, specifically weight classes and wake-up times. They aren't very obvious, the game gives you no hints about them, remembering who has what is more about memorization than about easily-guessed visual cues, and they add a degree of arbitrary inconsistency in a genre that usually doesn't take them into account. Very much cases of complexity for complexity's sake, in my opinion.
    EDIT: Also, while Smash has weight classes, it's also in a different iteration of the genre (that was made with them in mind), its purpose there is extremely obvious, and it's plenty easy to tell who is classified where and why just by looking at the characters.

This reminds me of the Story where newer folks love the new Monster Hunter World Series, and they wanted to try out the older games of Monster Hunter, and of course, lots of folks, content creators, etc. had to make videos & warn the newer audience that "They are not the same." The New & The Old Monster Hunter games are massively different." Keep up the great work Jiyuna! Take care!

    • @blyat8832
      @blyat8832 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Who said that? Easy doesn't mean bad, it's just a lot of og players like harder difficulty games and mechanics due to the reward they give you. Skill ceiling and making games simpler and easier isn't a bad thing, it's what you do with it that's what matters. You could do the right thing like strive, and take the old mechanics and retool them into a new game, or do the bad thing like mk11, making it a slow and just downright boring mess that is so lame

    • @IfWhatYes
      @IfWhatYes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rogersnick17 its not really the skill ceiling being higher that hes talking about, it's the unnecessary knowledge checks locking the skill floor to new players. There's things that are harder in strive than xrd, like confirming hkd off of counterhit vs normal hit jab. In fact a significant amount of the challenge for learning to play mid level in this game as a fg player has the same problem as tekken, you'll be stuck on knowledge checks a lot longer than skill checks will hold you back

    honorable mentions:
    6. 6P's aren't nearly as strong as they are in Strive. Some can't even be used as proper anti-airs, let alone as counterpokes. If you're used to flailing on 6P at every second of the match, it's gonna be tough.
    7. Airdashes are much faster, and the screen/stages are about 40% bigger so you can't just have someone in the corner after making them block 2 normals from midscreen like in Strive.
    8. Cancel windows on normals are way smaller than they are in Strive, so that stagger/frame trap pressure that all modern fighting games use so that people can feel like they're opening up their opponent by mashing on mids? doesn't happen in Xrd. Xrd requires more gameplay if you want that W.

    The weight classes and wake up timings are probably what will forever gatekeep me from Xrd.
    That's one thing I don't miss from older FGs. Just an arbitrary nuisance with no benefit.

    Nah bro, im good, that's too much unnecessary bs, i shouldn't have to memorize a spreadsheet to do a god damn meaty and another for combos. I'll stick to Melty and Strive.

      You don't have to memorize a spread sheet, just keep in the mind that some combos that work on Chipp won't work on Potemkin, since Pot is heavier.

      @@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 I'd add, what most people do is just remove as much mental stack you possibly could regarding it & simplify things via weight-class grouping.
      e.g. Using standard character weight (e.g. Ky) as a baseline, Just add or remove one light hit for your combos depending on whether the character in question is lighter or heavier than standard. Girls are usually lighter, and the only heavy ones are Pot, Kum & Johnny iirc.
      As for meaty, I just use the same few meaty combo on everyone really & don't vary depending on their wakeup timings.
      And if anyone wanna get sweaty, then thats when you learn the specifics. Even then, its not really necessary tbh. Grinded Xrd hard back in the day & just did these. Got by just fine despite never bothering with the frame specifics.

      Trust me bro, find a character that you like in xrd, and you will be enjoying the game to much before trying to learn it. The same with BBCF.
