Thanks a lot for your comparison and your hard work. I am thinking to sell my Pro-3 and get the Trigon-6 desktop instead because I often want the Pro3 to be a real poly, not just paraphonic. But I am very curious what I will loose if I sell the Pro3 and get the Trigon-6. Do you have an idea what I might miss once the Pro3 is gone? I have other synths (Melbourne Instruments Nina, GS Music E7, OB-6, Summit, Matrixbrute, Odyssey, Monopoly, Minilogue XD, Sub37, Pulse2, Typhon, Erebus, Bass Station2) but the Trigon impressed me by its demos on TH-cam.
Thank you! Ok let me take this from what i would miss and why i am keeping them booth. Pro 3 first here we go. Since its a mono it got a signal path made to go from kind to very overloaded this gives alot of character. Mod matrix is crazy which makes me never tired. The 3rd osc as wavetable adds the extra. Sequenser can act as step modulation source. However... the paraphonic is a fun thing with quircks that can be exploited for fun voice rounds. Pro 3 has sort of clear sound character if wanted which is not the same on trigon 6. Now for the Trigon 6, well beside of being a poly it's to me as close as we can get a moog that i wanted all my life that is stable and wont break the bank. I think the trigon is a good candidate for a more pure transistor ladder analogue poly. Ultimately compare your ob6 and pro3 if you feel limited with the ob6 when comparing then you will certainly miss your pro 3... hard choises yes... what do you think of novation summit? Kind of curious over it. Once had a peak but sold it to afford a car purchasr some years ago....
@@infestedalien thanks a lot for your thoughts. I sold the Pro3 once already - 3 years ago and when I got it back last year, I was blown away by its sound and fun to programm. Summit has one of the best Library tools and it is free. Not like the expensive soundtower for sequential which is a nightmare to use. Summit sounds very hifi, has one of the best internal FX and has very good and intuitive user interface. Multi layer is easy to use, filter and oscillators sound great. There is some menu diving but it got lots of features so its ok. Faders are a bit cheesy because of its size and plastic material.
@@nicogrubert The pro 3 is a unique mono and i am getting more addicted to it. Thank you for the honest reply on summit. I miss the unique filter character from the novation indeed.
They can be made to sound very similar, as one would expect. But where they didn’t, I preferred the PRO 3! Perhaps most notably, I preferred the filter sweep on the PRO 3 (to my surprise), and the absence of noise/clicks. Monosynths often have heftier oscillators; polysynths, not so much, to leave room for chords … Did you notice anything like that? … though the Trigon did seem brighter/buzzier, at times; but that may have just been the relative settings at that time … 🤔🤷🏻♂️
You are on the same page as me. It's important to point out that this comparison is only made to reveal that specific area of difference. If we then start compare the "improved ladder-filter" on the Trigon then we reveal areas not possible on the Pro 3. My favourite areas on the two synths are following, Trigon has a nice env amt curve and the 2 pole mode is truely amazing and makes the Trigon very special. I also enjoy the filter feedback / drive circuite and the FM (polymod) sounds gorgious! In some way Trigon can create some really gritty dirty ladder sounds. On the other hand Pro 3 which my gut feelings tells me is a bit misunderstood mono. Since it offers a very overloadable signal path which a mono should offer, then many users crank everything full open and don't understand why the sound is to harsh. In this video I didn't even touch the shape mod on the oscillators which can create interesting results. And it's nice to have 3 filters in the same synth. However the Trigon as you mention can get a bit buzzier which is sometimes reminding me of a TB-filter at same time not. The pro 3 with the complex modulation matrix is truely satisfying and as long as we are fine with mono or paraphonic, it's a synth that will give alot alot of joy over the years for the money. The pro 3 seriously made my doepfer modular only used for special audio processing usage. But I like to use the pro 3 as a final destination for the audio input to get the signal out from mono to stereo back in the audio interface. Are you in thoughts of buying any of those machines?
@@infestedalien I agree; PRO 3 seems misunderstood. Just because a car goes 300 mph, doesn’t mean you have to drive it that fast all the time … lol I would go for the PRO 3. I’ve heard beautiful sounds out of it - not overdriving everything etc; instead, matching some really classic/vintage synth sounds, bang on … Most demos, however, seem to use everything/more extreme settings … 😏 … great that it can do those sounds too/if that’s what you want; but those ‘modern sounds’ are certainly overrepresented in the videos online … Thanks for tour review/comments 😎👍🏼
Thank you for the feedback and interesting views of the synths. Same for me the Pro 3 is hard to get tired on. Will you go for a standard or SE? I personaly think these patches are kind of cool th-cam.com/video/RZ9bbUCwrkc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CeeGaEVdS2MPA9Qx

In the demo i forgot to set it to mono but i play one voice each press only difference is that it cycles the 6 voice cards in trigon 6. Its not the most scientific comparison and can be made more advanced yes.
It's possible to create cool distorted sounds on the Trigon 6. But of corse you won't get identical Roland TB303 sounds since it's not that synth or filter. I really love how the Trigon 6 sounds!

Would have not been more comparable to have had it in unison and put to one voice instead of stacking the six against one ?

What is "TB", that the TRigon sounds sort of like?
