I really appreciate when the invis/atk of opportunity thing came up, neither the player or DM got tilted. It's a little thing, but it was a good example that everyone doesn't know every little rule, and it's really easy to just confirm with the rules and continue play without drama.
I think the main thing about invisible opportunity attacks is there's no way to distinguish if a creature is repositioning or leaving your combat space, so if just hearing footsteps leave a space near you provoked it would follow that even shifting around a target should provoke.
That would be a good justification for how to visualize it. I can imagine, with an invisible foe, you are focused as much on defending yourself from unseen attacks as you are to try and locate your enemy. So potentially, you are so hyperfocused to catch the incoming attack that you realize too late that the enemy has actually moved away. Granted, who knows how magical weird ectoplasm mirror-images think about these things. Brachizoid was correct, when he stated that opportunity attack rules state that they can only be done against targets you can see. Insibility is powerful to the point of being broken, especially when run rules-as-written and including the ruling that the design director has stated in his rule-advice column.
@@ff-pj3de the same thing arises with the blinded condition as well, so it's not just an invisibility issue. Or the heavily obscured condition in things like Fog Cloud. The only thing Invisibility has up on those is that it isn't localized like Fog Cloud and isn't resistible like Blindness, plus is weaker than either when an enemy has true sight. Just boils down to how it's utilized and against who for if it seems like a strong spell/feature
@@Kevinx6 According to Jeremy Crawford, even if a creature has true sight, the advantage/disadvantage you get from invisibility still applies. It's weird and dumb and also doesn't make sense, but that's what he says. So if we follow the words of the lead rules designer of 5e, invisibility is better than fog cloud or darkness or blindness. You don't avoid opportunity attacks, but as long as you are invisible, you have advantage on attacks and enemies have disadvantage. Even if the enemies have true sight.
@@ff-pj3de huh. As written, that does line up. It's easy to forget that Invisibility is a condition, and that bit doesn't rely on whether or not they're seeable. It's still vulnerable to faerie fire at least. It's a strong condition. At 4th level, greater deserves to be that strong. But I still just don't think the 2nd level spell is too strong because it breaks so easily, and the benefits are so short lived unless you're explicitly avoiding the fight. Gloomstalkers though, majorly powerful 3rd lvl ability. In that form it's duration is nutzo now that I know you get the 2nd benefit regardless. That's it from me tho, I'm not trynna blow up the comment section with discourse lol
Monty doesn't look at TH-cam comments due to the stereotypical toxic nature of them. I honestly think that the community the unexpectables created is pretty wholesome but there are a few bad nuts.
Funnily enough, despite playing 6 wizards I have quite literally only cast fireball once. And that was to shut up the guy who kept saying I wasn't doing wizard right (nevermind that I was incapacitating entire groups of enemies and forcing others to waste their actions with various forms of CC and summons) (Caveat, I've only cast it once with my own spell slots, I have one hundred percent used wands to cast it. I just don't ever have enough spells prepared slots to ever prepare it when there's so many better spells)
Ok it's been long enough since The Unexpectables, time so sink into a new campaign with MonyGlu. Drink check, snacks double check, ready for some schenanigans? Oh you bet I AM!
I know how she feels looking at the dungeon maps. Honestly if i need an on the fly dungeon, i just grab a random chunk of one and use it as a full area. Ive repurposed the swamp layer especially many times!
I played in a no-healer party for 3 years, but to level 11. No healing wasn’t an issue, it was the jungle full of disease, poison, and other fun effects that greater restoration would have been REALLY useful for. Potions help, except our DM was evil and made us lose ALL of our inventory and before dropping us in the jungle. Needless to say, gotta DM to your party, don’t intentionally stack the deck against your PCs. We all quit soon after.
Oh god, Monty I've loved you for years and have looked at your videos before but just only now subscribed, please forgive me you are such a cool gm and person!
Talking to chat is not good podcasting... and no matter what you change the word to, it IS a podcast.... 3:32:48 Just as an aside, you seem to throw the word, "notably" around willy-nilly... Is this intentional, hoping that the party is taking notes and picking up what you're putting down?? Or is this just a way to compensate as an alternative to an audible pause?? I notice you did it frequently over on the Unexpectable's campaign with neither rhyme nor reason, so I'm leaning towards the latter... 😏
"I don't have a dedicated spellcaster in The Unexpectables."
Oh. I see.
I mean where's the lie? The Unexpectables have a rogue and ranger for DPS and two tanks 😉
Connor You're not a spell caster your just a bully, don't make me bring up the Oni!
Says the tank.
Bards aren't dedicated spellcasters, they are jack of all trades... that's how they were created anyhow. Part combat, part skills, part magic.
I thought you played a tank?
Also, bardic inspiration is not a spell.

Oh a d&d game on monty's channel of all places what a pleasant surprise
I’m beginning my first rewatch of Monty’s Mad Mage! I actually don’t remember a lot that happened early on, so this’ll be fun to revisit!
Missed opportunity to call it Dungeon of The Mad Monty
"Mad Monty" is just redundant tho. Might as well just call it the Dungeon of the Monty
No no, we call it, the dungeon of Glu
This module literally caused my PC to go insane and cause a near TPK.
So excited to see how this group will go!
Finally, someone italian I can share the italian rage with! Bosco is too nice to show it.
Being too nice is something Bosco is rarely accused of. (Mostly because he likes to play the heel but yeah)
@@mc_ace8075 he may be a disgrace but he's nice about it.
*is looking for another DnD stream to listen to*

I love the talking character portraits.
Those animated character avatars are brilliant

This is a very D&D first session, can’t wait to watch more.

Why would I watch Critical role when Monty is streaming?
Ok, partially because I'm in Germany and asleep, but also priorities
Wow Zoron the bear is everywhere, I saw him on a Takada cards against humanity stream once.
They could've used the sidekick ruling for the dog. Would've leveled up with them.

What's wrong with Australian spiders? There's only a handful of them that are deadly.
Also what do you have? “A KNIFE!” No!!!
