KAREN GERMANY creator of the Daddy's Long Legs line joins In The Doll World for a fun and educational interview! Georgette also shares her long and amazing connection to Karen Germany and how after 20 years coming full circle.
Karen talks about her journey from sculpting a line of dolls with animal faces and human bodies into creating Daddy's Long Legs and how creating one African American doll Nettie, garnered such a positive response from an African American woman who was so happy to see Nettie that she thanked Karen for creating her. That was the beginning of Daddy's Long Legs Dolls!
So many amazing stories in this interview. Karen sheds light on how she decided to create the In His Hands collection after 911; and, she also lets us in on a few secrets of some of her amazing line of dolls. It was such a honor and delight to interview Karen and be able to share her story on In The Doll World!

I attended one of her conventions and actually dressed up as Margo. I didn't win a prize, however, my efforts didn't go unnoticed and Karen personally complimented my costume. Three weeks after the convention I received a delivery at home and to my surprise, it was "SUGAR" who was introduced and retired 20 years ago in 09/95. A very limited number of these were made available for sale at the 1995 convention. Only attendants were eligible to purchase her. I was very honored to receive this special gift directly from Karen Germany..
Awww..that was so nice of Karen. She really is a very sweet and talented lady. I very much enjoyed working with her those many years ago and especially having her as a guest on In The Doll World. I attended one of her conventions in the late 90s with a friend that’s an adamant doll collector and it was amazing event. That’s when I started to collect Daddy Long Legs -I mainly collected African American dolls-that are very different and unique from other dolls. Karen was very personable and mingle with all attendees-it was a lot of fun and a great business adventure. Most of my dolls are packed away but I’m opening them up slowly after watching your channel.👏🏾👏🏾

Karen is a genuinely kind person! We enjoyed interviewing her. Georgette bought a number of dolls from Karen. I believe they are from Karen and her mother's collections. Many of the dolls are the first dolls in limited editions.

I am a big fan of Karen Germany's work. I have many of her dolls. I'm so happy to see she's doing well. She always used to want to see how we displayed her dolls. I wish that I could send her some pictures of them.

Are all the Daddy's Long Legs dolls aigned?
I have Nettie, her hubby, and two children. I gave Nettie to my mom when she first came out. My mom then started collecting the others. I was harshly criticized for having my beautiful dolls out (African American neighbors and friends found them offensive), so I have since put my beautiful dolls figurines away. Are there people th collect them and might want to buy them? Where would I look? BTW my dolls are the that have the wood block bodies.
That was wonderful you have your dolls to your mom. I know she has enjoyed them. Also so sorry to hear about having been criticized for owing these dolls and that you put them away. What a shame.
