This black and white short subject "Nobody's Children" was released in late 1946. The film concerns the process of child adoption in America and centers on The Calahans, a fictional, childless couple living in Hampstead, New York. After deciding they wish to adopt an infant, the film follows the Calahans from their first meetings with doctors through to when they bring their new infant home. Also shown are examples of couples who should not be permitted to adopt (middle-aged, selfish, or impatient couples, for instance), as well as the downfalls of taking the “black market” adoption route. By studying the closeups of the adoption forms shown in the film, we can extrapolate the suburban scenes were shot at 52 and 56 Lewis Place in Hampstead, NY.
The March of Time was an American short film series sponsored by Time Inc. and shown in movie theaters and schools from 1935 to 1951. Each entry in the series was either a two- or three-reel film (20 or 30 minutes). Westbrook Van Voorhis, who hosted the radio program of the same name, served as narrator. At its peak The March of Time was seen by 25 million U.S. moviegoers a month.

The problem with adopted nonwhite kids is that they often struggle with identity issues and feeling like they don't belong in either their adoptive family or their birth culture. This can lead to feelings of isolation and confusion, and it's important for adoptive parents to provide support and resources to help their children navigate these challenges.

That is quite narrow minded- I am a white, female, blonde haired, blue eyed female born in the 60's... the same feelings exists across the spectrum- NOT just non-white adoptees.... we are ALL affected from preverbal trauma we are not able to properly identify...

@@SweetMelissa1967 I apologize if my previous response came across as narrow-minded. You are absolutely correct, preverbal trauma can impact individuals from various backgrounds, including white adoptees such as yourself. The effects of early trauma can be far-reaching and impact individuals in different ways. It is important to recognize and address the emotional and psychological consequences of such experiences, regardless of one's race or ethnicity. Thank you for sharing your perspective, and I apologize for any misunderstandings.

This is SICKENING- they are selecting children "suitable" for the "new parents"..... a child need unconditional love..... nowhere in this is it even MENTIONED..... I was a "commodity" in the 1960's and was "experimented wit h" ,tested for my IQ, fine motor skills, there is SO much information that was collected and OBSERVED for prolonged time which did irreparable damage to my ability to attach for my entire life..... my parents had endless resources ... agencies saw "dollars" they could charge as they prolonged my adoption ....

I was adopted in February 1964 in Baltimore. I knew all my life but my parents wouldn't tell me the truth. Finally got the truth when I was 52. Wish I could know my birth mother.

I had always known that I was adopted, but when my husband and I were dating 36 years ago, he was at the courthouse and he got my original but miniature laminated birth certificate.
      You might try it.
You also might go to the birth records of the hospital you were born in. When I worked at a local hospital for the medical records, I found the baby book where me and my twin brother and I were written in.

Today, minority children and babies are the majority of children needing adoption. Today, so many kids are having kids and thus becoming a burden on the taxpayer. When I was a policeman in the LA area, I have been to many single parent homes where the child/children had to be removed because of poor or no parenting and child abuse even though the mother received money, food stamps, and HUD only to support a boyfriend and/or the mother was on drugs. I'm not bashing minorities because plenty of white mothers do the same things. My experience just showed me minority women had a higher incidence per capita or ratio in children being taken away but then I did work in the South Central LA area. Either way, how sad for innocent children who will grow up in the system and end up in jail or prison because of a lack of care, guidance, understanding and love.

Sad so many adoptions and/or abortions in the world. Children are the future. Cherish and teach them well.

We all have two parents. I am adoptee, I was not an orphan - I had two living parents who dumped me - Catholic Church convinced her to make me an orphan. My dad (who I found at age 38) said he would have raised me. Little late...

It's like adopting a puppy lol! I grew up in foster care and know first hand how discusting the system is but I like this video because it's an honest depiction of the corruption in the system.

They don't talk about the babies, such as me, that were snatched away from their birth mothers, money changed hands, and baby was sent on his way.
