    Hi Lars, Great tutorial! Thank you for posting it. Out of curiosity, how do tool changes work with the generated G-code? More specifically -- for hobby machines like the Shapeoko or X-Carve, is there a way to set up G-code generation in a way that makes the machine park in a tool change position, and then have it respond to a button input to resume, or, for hobby machines, is it best practice to generate two separate G-code files and re-zero after a tool change? Thanks!

    • @thethinkstudio1200
      @thethinkstudio1200 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most softwares that handle the gcode are looking for a different tool name/code when giving a pocket, contour cut, etc. each setup you will select the tool you want to use that tool must have a different tool code or name for the gcode software to notice its time to change the tool

    Hi Lars.
    Great Video however I am totally stumped (Newbie). Too often I see these example where the lesson opens up on a template looking just like the CNC base that you will be cutting on.
    But nothing tells me how to get that far. Is there anywhere that somebody who is migrating from a very simple system can learn that. As I build an opensource CNC machine I cannot go to the manfacturer.

    This is cool I am new to Autodesk Fusion 360, but this program is awesome and I am really excited to use it. I love it that with cam you can create programs for many cnc languages like fanuc, heidenhain and mazatrol. I worked only with fanuc and heidenhain and I know how to program mazatrol, but because I do not have experience with mazatrol people will not hire me to work on mazak. With this software I will not have problems with it, of course you will need some adjustments here and there, but overall fusion 360 is awesome and fast to use. I also can add my own tools, calculate them once for different materials and just click them later when I need them. I love fusion 360 and this software will make me program and work on cnc machine 100 times faster then before. Thank you!

      Just wanted to add that at the moment I am not working so I am using autodesk fusion 360 for free, but when I start to work again I will pay for the software to support it and the people that created it.

    you can also change the xyz orientation on your preferences so that z=up, then you can use :the presets ( "model orientation" ) on your work coordinate system 17:00 . I believe this is best practice as it matches machining convention of xyz.... x being left to right, y being front to back and z being up and down.

    • @codyabel4766
      @codyabel4766 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope my wording is clear. The Z axis "facing the wrong way" is permanently fixable by going to preferences :: General :: Default modelling orientation :: Z up .... there are two main reasons for doing this: 1. modelling with Z up is a good practice 2. Machining with Z up is required in 3 axis vertical milling

    Lars that moment when the cutter goes straight through the Vice Jaws, "you see that?... thats not good" LOL I laughed out loud at that one. This was a good demo but the detail around cutter use, how to experiment with chip load, how to put together cutting strategies and how to create complex fixturing etc would be good. Also subed your own channel. Can you tell us the difference between a mould or die by the way.

    Is it possible to link one Toolpath after another so when we Play them it shows the continuous progress of what is being done with the stock?
    With just a few minutes into Fusion 360 I setup a work piece to see if there's anything I don't understand thus requiring further investigation and so far I was only able to see the individual steps like drilling holes first, then pockets and finally contouring but not the whole combined result by keeping the result of the previous stock visible for the next operation.

      If you don't mind answering a question. I am a CNC noob and in the process of building my own gantry CNC.
      What if a machine isn't listed in the Post settings?
      Can it still generate the G code?
      I plan to use Mach3 and Fusion 360.
      Is the free version of fusion360 capable of generating 3D g-code ?

    • @diabloar1975
      @diabloar1975 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The post processors are made for CNCs not for specific machines so if you are going to use Mach-3 you just search for Mach-3 post and you are done, Fusion 360 free have post for M3 and works fairly good some things I change after the file is generated, what I would strongly recommend to you is to learn basic ISO code or best known as G-code so you can understand what each code in the file means and then you can see what have to remain on the file and what not, hope this answer helps you some how.

    I’d like to know how to switch from Gibbs to fusion? Having hundreds of .vnc files it seems I either stick with Gibbs or throw out all the hard work involves in file making.

    • @adskFusion
      @adskFusion  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd definitely recommend you give Fusion a try. While it seems daunting, you may find it's easier than you imagine, and if you want to get away from Gibbs now, you'll probably still a year down the road. Might as well start the process in learning Fusion 360, and we have TONS of free learning content here and in the adoption portal.

    Hey Lars, I don't have the laser/water jet option in my setup, how do i turn this option on?

    • @pakman422
      @pakman422 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to preferences (click on your log-in name in Fusion to find pref.), then go to "Preview" (last tab down on the left), then check the options that you want (laser/water-jet CAM in your case). I recommend checking them all. I think it's neat how Fusion 360 handles the "Beta" (or "preview") functionalities. You don't have to be in a special group of people to take advantage of them. Hope this helps! -Jacob S.

    Comparing the autodesk fusion simulator to the solidworks hsm express simulator in hsm.... The fusion sim, runs so much more choppy... Is this a symptom of a under powered computer? Or just the way the fusion / inventor simulator runs? I can even see this in your video.

    Love your videos. But you need to harp on AutoDesk to quit moving stuff. Typical of most sites, they can never leave things in the same place. I went to look for the Post Processors and it's not only not there, but when I search for them the place it shows me the page is missing. It's not only convoluted and stuff it buried, but it makes it annoying if you try to bookmark something and then can't find it again. It's like it's a challenge to the site builders that they have to rearrange everything to justify their job. Their job is to make the site better for the customers, not them. Sorry, you do a great job on the videos. Too bad someone can't make a site that's logical and consistent.

      There is a fine balance between wanting to perfect a UI, and avoiding confusing users. Sorry if these videos use an old UI where you will find commands moved, removed, or hidden away. We'll work to update these to the new UI, and at the same time we want to try to limit the changes we make to the UI. That said, a new UI is already in the works. I will apologize now for that...sorry!
