I agree, the Black community (as a collective, not individuals of course) has a tendency to have very high standards for BO businesses. 1 mistake or mishap and we don't want to support them again. But we get abused, mistreated and exploited by white companies of all sizes with little pushback. At the minimum BO businesses deserve the same courtesy.

Sadly, there are folks, living in black communities, and leaving black communities. Africans benifit financially, by braiding hair, why?, Asian's provide, nail care, waxing, convience stores, and profit by far beauty supply stores. Brown skin folks, profit from alcohol, and lottery/gas stations etc. Yet, how many of these business people are, living, shopping, sending their children to schools within black communities? The list goes on. Far to many black neighborhood communities, REFUSE, to embrace, THEIR OWN, by uplifting/supporting financially. Rude, disrespectable, hood life, mentality, has become, a DISGRACE of the PROUD BLACK, men and women who risk their lives for OUR SAKE. WTF? It's about accountability!

@Ashaki Gaden I think you and the other commenter misunderstood my point. I was agreeing with one of the points that Faye made. I agree, no one is exempt from constructive criticism. Maybe both of your experiences have been different. But I know many Black people (not all as I originally stated) will complain about everything (big and little) wrong with a BO business and then stop supporting it. But will go to Walmart, Target, McDonald's, Amazon, Macy's, etc but also complain about everything (big and little) AND still continue to support the businesses. My point is if you are going to operate that way with White owned businesses, give BO businesses the same blind support. No grip to get, no over exaggeration.

I personally avoid phenoxyethanol w it being an endocrine disruptor. Same with BHT. It’s accepted in the US up to 1%, but if you have multiple products at 1%, it can quickly go over levels I’m personally not comfortable with. Both being banned in other parts of the world is telling too. I’ve been able to find really good products without it, which I’m glad about.

      @@OaklandMind Yes!
Sienna Naturals is the best shampoo & conditioner I’ve ever put on my hair. Insane hydration. The Dew Magic leave-in is also A+ as is the mousse. The curl refreshing spray is good but I hate the bottle it comes in. It’s Issa Rae’s line & was in Target & Nordstrom but I think only direct to consumer & in Nordstrom now. I’ve been using it for about 4 months.
Kreyòl Essence has a Haitian Moringa Coconut & Papaya line is free of phenoxyethanol (not every line of theirs is). I use the leave-in & the hair gel from that line.
Shea Moisture’s low-porosity grape seed leave-in detangler is really good & makes my curls very juicy. This brand is hit or miss depending on the item but I have a few more that are backups to Sienna Naturals & Kreyòle Essence.
I also *think* the line that she featured from the Netherlands is also free of phenoxyethanol bc it’s banned in the EU.
      Hope this helps!

@@shinecam1 Ok so your tone is coming off a bit negative. If that is not your intentions, cool. So to clarify, I knew the brand was owned by a black woman. I knew never knew her name. I was somewhere recently and received information on the Kaleidoscope brand and owner. I recently started watching the show during this time I kept saying to myself this lady looks familiar. So long story short I just pieced it together. So I hope I didn't offend you in anyway. Have a great day!

Once you become a black owned business owner, and you grow organically, you really have to see things from a broader perspective.
Gossip and back biting is a huge part of our culture...on purpose... to the point that it controls the narrative for most of how we see and do everything (for some of us) including business transactions.
Additionally....not all products work on all hair and skin types ...just because it says black owned...doesn't mean it will work for all of us ... because we are a very diverse group.
Kudos to ur growth mindset for giving it a second chance.
Because we haven't been used to building profitable businesses, its hard to understand just how important group economics is to that dynamic.
