Hey folks, If you're trying to stream this song you have to search "Jon Blackstone & The Rest of Us". If you want to download the song please use the link in the description. It helps support my channel. Thanks!
Thank you for listening! It’s one of my favorite tracks. I wrote it about a friend who was an addict. Sadly he didn’t get to hear it because he died of an overdose before I finished it. But I’ve been surrounded by addicts and addiction my whole life. I’m sure most can relate to this song; loving someone who’s on a path of self destruction. You can listen to all my music on my website www.jonblackstone.com or anywhere music is sold. Thanks for listening!
Tell me about it! I still can’t believe it myself. I tell the story how I met Dee and how it led to Nigel in this video. Recording with Dee Murray & Nigel Olsson th-cam.com/video/K4XLH6CEHS0/w-d-xo.html
Nigel Olsson is the consumate professional musician. He came in, sat down and played a perfect drum track for your song. I'm always amazed by musicians who have the gift, hone their craft and make the interwoven gift + mastercraft their to profession and don't let it go to their heads. He must hear drum parts in his mind and heart; his playing seems so natural, like breathing for him. I'm so happy that you were able to work with both Nigel and Dee. Wonderful memories to call up on dark days, I'm sure. 🕊️
You said it better than I can. I was absolutely amazed that within two takes he had totally nailed the performance. Even when I watched the footage today it’s still amazes me. Thank you for your comments!
Hey! Nigel is underrated. Great feel. But I really dropped in to say that this guitar riff is so good. Infectious! Now, with the additional guitar, I love the mix with them panned L R, and then the solo down the middle... great listening window. Cool tune! Cool fx on the guitar on the fade out... Jon! Bravo, sir. 👏👏👏
Wow, what a great comment. Everything you said reveals that you listen to music the same way I do. I grew up, listening to music on headphones and became very aware of panning and what you can do with the stereo soundscape. I literally learned about production from listening to Elton John records and Beatles records. Have you noticed those little details is very wonderful. I got to say I think you would really enjoy my music. I miss all of my music on headphones because I love those stereophonic goodies. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! As you can imagine it’s still a thrill every time I listen. I still can’t believe two of my musical heroes ended up on it. You can download or purchase on CD if you’d like. jonblackstone.com/music
@@JonBlackstone Ok great. I've had the opportunity to work with some musicians out of Nashville, all phenomenal and great to collaborate with. I also touched base with Joe Chambers a few years ago, he kindly reviewed a song for a musical (lovenevergrowsold daught calm). For some reason the site seems to resolve better in chrome. There's great musicians, and then there's the people that work with Elton 🙂. I spent about 5 years working with an incredibly brilliant musician wayyy back in the day, around 1981 to 1985. Atlantic Records heard a cassette of ours and the A&R guy said, 'the Beatles could sue you for those songs.' Not sure why he didn't sign us, lol. I'll check out your site, thanks for the note!
How cool that the drum kit was exactly the same as on those classic EJ recordings! Actually you can hear it! I think I'm gonna buy your albums, you are doing such a great job keeping the spirit of classic rock up! And I urge every subscriber here to do the same: buy the albums, don't just stream them. That's how everyone can contribute to keeping organic music alive!
Wow, I couldn’t hope for a better commercial! My albums are actually available on CD as well. I’m not a fan of streaming. Thank you for the kind words. If you go to my website, you can order my albums on compact disc. jonblackstone.com/music
Hi Jon, Possibly, give Charley Crockett a listen. He is one of the rare contemporary artists that makes real music with soul. Also, try to do an episode or two about him for a future episodes after recovering from your surgery. Thanks! Ron😊
Thanks for watching! I wrote it about a friend of mine who was deep in the Seattle music industry during the grunge era. he ultimately died of a heroin overdose. So it’s a pretty dark song.
Thank you for watching! This was shot in 1995. It was shortly after Dee Murray passed away. I still can’t believe that I had the opportunity to work with two of my musical heroes.
@@JonBlackstone I started playing drums in the mid 70s, inspired by Nigel. His natural timing is right up there with Ringo’s. The space between the notes. The feel. People don’t realize: It’s so hard not to hurry on drums. Nigel never does it. Listen to Someone Saved My Life Tonight. Or I’ve seen the saucers. Or don’t let the sun go down on me. What he doesn’t play is as good as what he plays.
@@HarryJoiner I can tell that you and I could speak for hours about drummers! What you said in your last comment sounds like it came out of my mouth. I have to assume you’re a great drummer if you understand the nuances of drumming that you described. Can you send anything that you’ve played on? I’m always looking for drummers for studio sessions. By the way, there’s a longer video of this recording session if you’re interested. Recording With Nigel Olsson (w Dee Murray) Expanded Edition th-cam.com/video/JD10YCK0v7c/w-d-xo.html

He had the coolest looking long hair in the business. And it looked even cooler when playing the drums! 😊
Right?! Thanks for watching!
Fantastic song!

Nigel is the best rock drummer still around from the late 60s, early 70s. He was also my school girl crush.
How could a woman resist? 😊 he’s such a cool guy. Thanks for watching!

Jon, good stuff. What year was this recorded? What a thrill it must have been for you to jam with these two Legends!

This is awesome!!! What year was this recorded?
