And I thought I had a stressful repair when the dishwasher pump got stuck on Christmas eve. Well done! I'm also a master at painting up all the worst case scenarios in my brain when trying to sleep the night before tackling such jobs.
Stress is all relative but I am pleased to know I am not the only one thinking about how bad tomorrow could be if things don't go as planned. Thankfully most days go to plan.
In the U.S. we call pipe dope Ackempucky, but I’ve never heard of using horse hair. Although I have seen some kind of fiber in a roll but not Teflon tape. I hope you don’t have any problems with the new system. I like the way the old pump came in cast iron with flanges. Sometimes new isn’t made nearly as good as old but you needed a pump and that’s what they offer. Here in Florida we don’t have to depend on a system to heat our houses, so that’s a no joking matter. Again stay warm and enjoy your New Year Winter. I’m not kidding, I was worried you and the chickens would be swimming in the basement. Always watching from Panama City Florida,USA. 🇺🇸🦅 ! No Snow Just Breeze !
Thanks Kirby, it is hemp fiber really but similar to horse hair in appearance. I would have preferred to repair the old pump but you cannot get the bearings or inner anymore as you know a far superior product.
Howdy Simon- another project complete. Glad it all went well. Sometimes when I get in those particular circumstances it doesn’t always work out so well. Here’s wishing you your family the very best happy new year. God bless
Well done Simon, I bet you were relieved when these flanges moved especially the one on the top because that piping would never had held much force and you would have had to restrain it in some other way, but it all worked out well . Wish you and your family a prosperous and happy New Year
Thanks John, I guess at least with the copper I had a chance of repair if it had but yes when thy moved I was pretty sure I had the job done. Happy New Year
Good morning Simon. Glad you got lucky on the pump swap. My luck I would have had trouble from the get go with the shut off valve especially that it's never been shut off. I don't know how many valves that have been open for years and when I've shut them off they want to leak. You had some major pressure on the lines especially when Removing the bottom flat plate. I would have been paranoid and probably would have put a ratchet strap or something for a backup. It's done now and glad it went smoothly. I hope that you and Sara had a great Christmas. Get some coffee and enjoy your day. I hope it's a productive day. I appreciate you sharing. Often wonder what might you be into at the current moment. Have a blessed day my friend. Be safe and we'll see you down the road...... Hello Sara 👋 and good morning to you ma'am. Have a blessed day as well. Thank you.
Thanks Mike, I was having a serous stress undoing the old flanges it just didn't look like it. The old valves do leak but I have buckets and a way of putting it back into the system. They stop after a few weeks and seal themselves up with the sealant I have to run in the system. Always a productive day and thanks for your support for another year. Y'll enjot the New Year. Best wishes my friend.
You are the modern day macgyver for sure Simon what can't you do? It is wicked down right cold here 10 to 20 below zero F you have your self a wonderful new years and take care and be safe my friend
Good job mate. Although having no backup if it went wrong made me nervous and I thought maybe spring might have been a better time for this job😂. But fair play to you, you got it sorted. Not easy at all! Blessings from Ireland.
Good job of changing out the circulator pump. Replacing those bolt flanges with the new screw-on couplings will make things a lot easier for you if you ever have to change the pump again in the future. Fine idea about making the new pump a plug-in for generator power if/when needed!
Thanks Monte, I am sure with modern things the way they are that pump will not last like the last one did. We have to many power cuts for me to know I will need that plug before the winter is finished. Have and great New Year.
Guillotine & Gate valves we used to fit when we were welding new industrial pipe work into different factories for steam and chemicals🇬🇧🇮🇪. These fitting are usually fine thread which will take more abuse then course thread.
First i Will wish you and the soroundings All the Best, and a happy New year. Funny this kind of accident always happend in the winter time. But like always we manege to get the job done. I really love your Chanel Simon❤❤❤. No bullshit, only real facts. Big hug from here
Grand job - again!! I'm chuffed it went better than expected! I was imagining one of those flanges coming off together with the threads!! 🤪🥴 We had a great Christmas thanks - simple pleasures - as you saw! Well, then we had t-bones for dinner - not something that would amuse you! Just for the record - Santi brought me some socks and undies - AND - a similar head torch to what you have!! Whooppee! As we speck I see the green fully charged light is on - so, I'll soon be flashing it in your eyes when I'm out detecting!! Have a great time the rest of the silly season... don't do what I wouldn't!🤣🎅👍
Thank you AJ, those head torches are so much better you don't even know you have them on compared to the old one. Have fun and a Happy New Year to you both.
Thanks Simon, well done buddy, that could of went south pretty quick. Is the new recirculating pump a Vevor? Thats the cheapest price that i found, i bought one for my son for a backup.
Not sure what you were on about. There is another gate valve not a meter up the pipe from the valve you say is the only valve between the pump and the rest of the house.
The 3" flow pipe you are referring to splits into 4 3" pipe as it hits the horizontal pipes which then flow left and right. There are two valves to the left which is the ones you can see. These were installed in 1948 and no longer function. The two 3" pipe that travel right then split into 4 3" pipes two of which turn vertical and go up 3 stories an have no valves connecting to each floor as they go. The two 3" pipes that continue right also have the same huge screw valves that you could see to the left but again have not been used since install in 1948. So what I am on about is 9000 liters of water that can openly drain into a boiler room with no drain within just a few minuets and they is not container big enough or no help to be able to prevent it. The other fact you may have missed is it is not a house, thus the huge old system that holds way more coolant than a dozen houses. I hope this helps. Happy New Year and Thank you
I noticed that you wrapped the sealing tape (Lin in Swedish) in the opposite direction than I usually do. Just wanted to mention it in case it matters."
Only on the top one, I went with the thread on the bottom and against the thread on the top. I doesn't matter but is better to go with the direction of the nut. I did notice but let it go since it did not unwind this time.
Great video keep them coming really enjoy watching them
Glad you like them!
Good job SI another one of the list and a relief that all went well. Hope you get to enjoy the Season of Good Tides with friends and family 👍
Thanks Ash, Merry Christmas to you and the Girls and have a Happy new year.

P.S.- where was the new pump made? Should I guess.
I think Kirby it is a German pump.
Thanks Kirby, it is hemp fiber really but similar to horse hair in appearance. I would have preferred to repair the old pump but you cannot get the bearings or inner anymore as you know a far superior product.
The beating heart of your home and you treated it like a heart surgeon. Good job! All the best for the coming new year. 🙂👍
Thank you Ian, Have a great New Year.

Godt jobbet! Rørlegger-arbeid er alltid litt spennende når nye deler skal tilpasses. Flott varme-anlegg du har der.
Takk, dette systemet får meg ofte til å svette og noen ganger gråte.
Godt nytt år

Merry Christmas, nice job on the pump change things went good, your heating system has big supply and returns. Was your place a mill of some type?
Thank you, my place is a School thus the huge heating system. Happy New Year.
Thanks Simon, well done buddy, that could of went south pretty quick. Is the new recirculating pump a Vevor? Thats the cheapest price that i found, i bought one for my son for a backup.
Thanks Mark, it s a HST pump.
