It is not just a Rare 1 Rupee coin but the interesting history associated with this coin make its more desirable to add this coin into your coin collection. George v King Emperor coins can be seen from the year 1911 to 1936. In this video we are talking about one of these George 5 King Emperor Coin.
Reign of George v King started in the year 1911 as such first set of coins with his portrait was issued in the year 1911. As per the British India monetary system then, Silver One Rupee Coin , Silver Half Rupee Coin, Silver Quarter Rupee Coin and Silver 2 Annas Coin were issued among silver coins. Once the coins circulated in market, a religious controversy started on the design of the coin. There was something so strong about this controversy that majority of these 1911 silver coins of George V king were withdrawn from general circulation and melted. The ones left till date are considered as one of the Rare 1 Rs coins of British India. The design due to which this controversy arose gave these coins a unique name of 'Pig Coins'.
Not only 1 Rs coin of George V King Emperor became rare after this controversy but other silver coins also became rare and extremely rare. 2 Annas Coin, Quarter Rupee and Half Rupee Coin of 1911 -George V King Emperor all fall under rare and extremely rare categories of British India silver coins today.
