- The late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman was widely acclaimed for his enigmatic performances in films including PT Anderson's Boogie Nights + Magnolia, Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut Synecdoche NY + George Clooney's 2011 film The Ides Of March. In 2006 his performance as the eponymous character in Capote earned him a BAFTA for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He also received nominations for performances in Charlie Wilson's War and Doubt.

It's why he's my favorite actor of all time. Just tremendously talented. Will always be devastated he's no longer here.
I m going to miss this man. His deep affection for human condition was the fuel behind his amazing performances.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Heath Ledger were my favorite... the first film I saw of his was LOve Liza .. and the rest just were amazing.. I miss them both soo much

He's also incredible in The Boat that Rocked.... or Pirate Radio is the other name... The Talented Mr Ripley is another favourite.. And of course boogie nights...My 3 Favourites!

Damn it..I watched this fellow in Capote the other day and was totally absorbed in the character of Capote..first time I had noticed this actor and now I find out he;s dead. :( seemed so cool
For those interested in his great acting roles not mentioned: The Big Lebowski, Magnolia, Almost Famous, Love Liza, Punch-Drunk Love, The Master.
Before the Devil knows your dead (with Ethan Hawke 2007) ... and Flawless (with DeNiro 1999). Both excellent movies.

I will always regret not seeing PSH in Death of a Salesman. Because of this, I go to shows I want to see; life is too short to wait for another opportunity that may not come.
I regret often not seeing that play. I was right outside and could have. Haunts me I could have seen greatness.
What a sad scene with the therapist nor listening or respecting him at all. That is so typical in the therapist experience also. They don’t give a shit about any of us.

keflar5 I know, I know... Over dramatic. But this man was - and is - a hero of mine. His movie posters are on my walls. I've even got the random stuff he did like that episode of Arthur.
His surprise downfall was the wake-up call I needed to save myself from an early grave too.
So yeah, I wish I could have seen him talk in person, and if possible have thanked him for how much his work has given me.

His young death was tragic. He was exceptional and could have played so many other roles brilliantly Michael Crenshaw.

Great interview but the interviewer's terminology when describing some of the gay roles he played is really offensive - describing Truman Capote's voice as 'bizarre' and 'a way of getting attention' and then simplifying PSH's role in 'Flawless' as a 'drag queen' really shows up her limited heteronormative interpretations of the person/character(s) he has played
