Im so very glad I read some of the comments after nearly abandoning this a few minutes in - those who mentioned that it gets better the further it goes along wrote the truth - there are some beautiful and dramatic moments I would have otherwise missed - it really gets ‘Hollywood’ (written in the best sense of the word) towards the middle section and builds to a huge climax in the finale/coda. I kept wondering if there would be a cadenza of sorts and, while not too excessive or extended, there is - not far from the final breathtaking conclusion. Highly recommended! Many thanks for posting this !
This is such an unique and beautiful concerto, I especially love the slow, bitonal theme. You really can hear that Korngold was one of the composers inventing the Hollywood sinfonic style. Some parts remind of Williams - or rather the other way around :D Anyway, I'm glad you made it possible to discover this work! Thanks!
I hate to pick nits, but... Korngold never specified the modality of the work as being minor or major, probably because the writing is so chromatic that the mode is ambiguous. On your title card, you put C-sharp Major, as I might have done in your place, defaulting to the assumed major; but when I saw the score, the key signature has only 4 sharps, which is...C-sharp minor.
@@thenameisgsarci well, just be ready i mean.. CPO as well makes me doubt a bit, i had before the urspruch pc uploaded before but then they decided to remove it. Somehow other users as i observed has uploaded the same recording up again..
Not a very impressive piece, especially the beginning is just meh. But after the first half (after the first whole a suffocating 14 minutes), the middle part was nice
I made the two piano score in this video when I was in high school many years ago - so nice to see it pop up here :)
any chance for us to watch it?
@@thenameisgsarci what do you mean?
@@matiasvestergardhansen6304 oh I misunderstood, i thought you played it back in high school. I blame my lack of understanding.
Was this part of a music class project, may I ask?
@@thenameisgsarci no, just a personal summer project for a bored 18 year old, haha!
From 3:43 to 6:10 has gotta be one of the most romantic melodies I've ever heard. Wow!
"Ausholen!" caught me off guard... Thanks for posting this remarkable piece!
To admit, seeing that remark made me chuckle a little bit. Oh God, I'm so bad. XD
Take a swing?
"Ausholen!" "Polternd!" Interesting remarks from Korngold! A wonderful concerto!
I lost a composition competition to a piece with 'devastatingly beautiful' as one of the markings.
It was a good piece, but I'll always laugh at that.
7:37 orchestral part is a quotation of the finale of Korngold's own Quintet op.15 !
Thanks

“Sinfonic? Like a sinfonia? That was a thing in Hollywood?
Musical genius!

Thanks for this!!!!!
27:34 that has to be the record for most accidental markings on a single page! ( for a 2 piano score...... )

How could the “non dimin.” in the last bar of the piano part be done? It goes against the physics of piano sound.
composers start writing stuff like that when they're on crack
My guess is a tremolo.

I've heard a lot of music by Korngold that I love, but this is the first work composed by him that I detest. Ugh!
