I don't think I've ever seen a streamer I actually could stand watching hold upwards of two and a half hour shareholder meetings to discuss how the streamer can get their money donated. Honestly, he should just bring back TTS and auto-pop up for donations if he really wants the LARPer or dent dollar, but he's obviously too afraid to have random people on the Internet tell him just how great (sic) he is.

Holy shit this guy cannot be more dense. Ultimate is incredibly popular. And Melee, a literal ancient game, is one of the most popular fighting games on earth. DSP could not be more out of touch.
It's because he sucks at it. From my perspective it seems something like sf6 would be very difficult to play (not my type of game) as it's very fast paced, yet he plays it pretty well, but for some reason he can't wrap his head around smash which is slower(probably because he can't gimp people as easily)

There’s one thing that always works to spice up content: friends. If you have a 2nd person it usually makes the content more enjoyable while you 2 just bounce off each other and the game

The recent toxicity from DSP these past few days is the Scorn rant turned up to 11. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him this angry and worked up. He still fails to realize that these explosive rants are a big part of why people don’t like him. It’s only going to get worse too as the AAA industry continues to crumble and there are less of those huge, super hype blockbusters he relies on.
Also, DSP complaining about the lack of great games in 2024 just further proves this guy’s taste in games is as limited as a toddler that only eats chicken nuggets. May was packed full of cool indie games covering a wide variety of genres, and next week we have Steam Next Fest to look forward to. PC gamers have been eating great this year.
It really shows that Phil hasn't learned from that Scorn incident. Even if he attempted to change when Moist Critical himself criticized his meltdown, that was clearly all temporary. 😒

For all the years Phil has been doing this, you would think that he understood at some point that "variety" is not actually a good thing for a channel. Like I am not saying you shouldn't do what you think is fun and if that is "variety" then so be it. But I think every person who had a YT channel for a bit over a year can tell you that the main way to draw an audience is to find your niche and deliver in that niche. If you have an audience that came for fighting games, it will always be hard to get a big percentage to watch your strategy game playthroughs. It's as simple as that.
Yes, there will always be a core audience that would watch everything you do and IF you are big enough, you can bank on them being enough to keep the channel relevant. But if you are smaller, and DSP is smaller, then the goal should be to focus your audience and don't switch games every so often because this just thins out the crowd that came to you for a very specific purpose.
Again, if you don't intend to make it big and just do videos for fun, don't listen to this advice. Do what you think is fun. But if this is your job, you would think you would understand it a bit better and not think that variety is a good think just because a lot of people (shout out) say so.

Usually if you're working in a specific industry for that long you'd pick up a thing or two or be able to atleast call yourself a power user. Theres lots of games you "need" a team for but you can totally play alone , war thunder is another one that comes to mind. It's playable solo but you are almost gonna do 100% better with a team , ghost recon breakpoint is another , you can play solo but it's much better with friends , not required but much more fun , ive played a couple games with 0 matchmaking that require a full team I know I have but I can't think of any

Also you are correct that he says stuff like this to justify himself quitting the game.
Lets not forget he said Palworld was dead with nothing more to do after 10 hours when the game takes 35 hours to finish and 80+ hours to 100%.

I find it just crazy how he sits here and claims to have been on the platform for 16 years and knows what he's doing, but at the same time is constantly asking his audience what he should be doing. Guy has no clue, it's all to dance around him admitting to himself that he is the problem.
I’m going to be as fair as I can be to THE GUY and I ask this genuinely. Is there *any* successful streamer out there who spends anywhere close to as much time talking about their schedule and the games they should or shouldn’t play and their streaming setup as much as DSP? I cannot imagine spending multiple hours genuinely watching someone complain like this in the expectation of being entertained.

How can he not realize that he is the problem, that he just doesn't have the personality to hold an audience, hes not a show man if you will.
Even i recently quit uploading on my channel because i can to the conclusion that i just didn't have the IT factor to pull in an audience. And trying to "fake it till i make it" just wasnt gonna work because my heart wasnt in it anymore. And i did not want to subject my audience to that, as small as it was.
Palworld should have been his wake-up call that maybe he is the problem. His streams were a flop at the same time that the game was still getting over 1 million concurrent players on Steam and there were hundreds of thousands of viewers watching the game on Twitch.
Hades 2 was out in early access for about a month before Phil played it. It's still popular, but he's making it seem he played it on launch day, and he didn't. Not even close.
I'm a nobody beyond a nobody on TH-cam, and most of my videos (in the rare times I upload something publicly) still end up with at least a few likes and some hundreds of views. You'd have to actively try to perform worse than that.
His argument about not playing Smash is hilarious coming from the guy who played old Street Fighter's over the new one's.
I love that he absolutely refuses to accept the reality of why people aren't showing up. People want him to play certain games, and he refuses to do it so those people go somewhere else. Simple as. That's how youtube has always worked. If someone isn't playing or doing something you want on their channel, there are millions of other channels that are. But obviously those people are just dirty, twisted, child trolls.

Phil's problem is simple: He HATES for what remaining audience he has. He HATES that they won't just shut up and give him money and he can't do what he wants. He HATES that he has to to be told what they want and what he has to do so that they keep giving him their money.
His metaphor about porkchops makes no damn sense. Who goes to a restaurant that does 1 thing asking for an item THEY KNOW that place doesn't make? His problem is he likes porkchops, but people are asking for spaghetti, then he makes spaghetti so shitty that no one with taste would ever touch it, so now everyone is unhappy. His business lacks any direction, since he is too much of a coward to make a stand and accept responsibility for the consequences.

For someone who has been in the business for over 10 years he still can't comprehend that not every game is going to be a hit, or that so long as you have more than one viewer you're going to get two different opinions. There's a New England accent that isn't the Boston, Maine, or New York accent where they just cannot pronounce t's at all and dsp has the accent so bad it's ridiculous.
I used to think he had a speech impediment until I heard other people with the same accent. He overly annunciates the t's in some words like "toxicity" because he's self conscious about the accent but not smart enough to keep it up for every word.

It's the fact that when he's playing a game, you have to talk about that game or something related to that, and if you don't, then he calls you out or just outright bans them an the fact that the chat has to basically play the game for him who wants to see that.
Here’s a social experiment: find someone who unapologetically acts like a toxic jerk and wait for them to say they’re just being honest. They all do. It’s probably the most common justification they use for demeaning and degrading others. I bet Phil thinks he’s the first a-hole to come up with it.
How can you be yelled at via chat? All caps? Tone doesn’t come across in text the same way. It’s easy to misinterpret. I know he’s ineptly trying to say that this feedback is abusive in nature but the fact is no one has the opportunity to yell at him. He lives in a fortified bubble totally detached from the rest of the human race. If mean words on the Internet get to him so much he needs to disengage.
Why is it anyone else’s problem that he consistently fails to make the most of his opportunities? No one owes him anything. Not even views. He signed up for the risks inherent in this profession. He had his chance to build a self-sustaining source of income or at least a substantial nest egg but he blew it. Instead of repairing the engine he just keeps turning keys in the ignition and pounding on the steering wheel oblivious to the futility of his efforts.
It’s just a factual observation that with sufficient skill or talent Phil could theoretically play Zork and draw adequate viewership. Game selection is a factor, not the factor.
Deciding by informal committee could be an amusing gimmick but the way Phil goes about it is obviously doomed from the start. He never talks about any metrics. What made him think appeasing 2-3 people would change anything? That’s his problem, his shit sandwich to eat. He needs shock therapy or something. Maybe a boot camp for troubled teens would be good for him.
