Family came to Shell Beach (now part of Pismo Beach) in 1946 and was of the first houses built there. Happy times going to the (100 steps down the stairs) to the beach. Many a wonderful day spent there.
Spent many Summer days with my grandparents there, when it was Shell Beach. Mid 70s to early 80s. Remember hiking down the blowhole over that bluff, it’s where you see the paid-for-manicured park. Used to be a vacant dirt lot with big 5-6’ diameter holes you could climb/hike on into, wind up at the bottom in one of those alcove cave openings and have big private room to view kelp beds and forever ocean. Pretty much a poetic paradise. Oh the lawyers and insurance companies after a few people were too impaired and/or mentally gone to use it safely... bye bye soulful times.
I never have enjoyed a you tube video nor finished till now. Wow I'm like I wanna hike there just drive to take my dog. I live in L.A. Thank you for this awesome video

Such great shoreline! I think I will have a mud puppy folder for you to try soon, still developing but has manual pid adjusting arms for non-digital tuning. LOL!

My brother fell off the cliffs at shell beach. Looks kinda the same did you fly there? We were playing while my dad was fishing years ago hes fine now. What a great science sure miss central coast. Go conquistadores; )
I lived on the main paved road down to the stairs/beach back in '65-'67 I was 5-7yo. We lived with my mom's friend and her 2 sons Layne and Wayne, also 5-7yo. Well Wayne was killed when his bike chain/bicylcle brake didn't work when he played "chicken" , and went off the cliff. I was interviewed by police and search/rescue to find Wayne went he didn't come home. Took police to the Dinosaur Caves, UG storm lines, this beach cliff where we used to skid our bikes to the iceplant edges of the cliff playing "chicken". Wayne was found a couple days later in the tidal pools at low tide right where he went off.
Scary to think back now of those times. My brother Kenny and me were sitting by the edge pulling grass throwing it over the edge and it would blow back up. He then grabbed too much, stood up and pulled himself over. Skin graphs, broken bones and a long hospital stay in Santa Maria. I could only see him from the parking lot when the nurse would put him up by the window and wave. He was five and I was six. My kids are grown and that never happened. We all lucky to be alive. : )
Really nice video... Was that filmed witb no gimbal? (2014...kinda pre-brushless gimbal days)... Any stabilization in post? Reason I ask is the video looks pretty smooth for a flight with no gimbal. Thanks.
RoadTripFPV thanks. I guess I'm frequently flying when there's more wind/turbulence. But really nice to see that in decent conditions and flown by a good pilot, that a gimbal isn't always necessary. Of course these days they are so cheap, there's almost no reason not to always use one. One more question. Did you find the QAV500's clean/dirty frame to really make a difference with jello? Thanks again.
Weather was amazing that day! Back then the clean/dirty plate really helped with ancient NAZA controllers (it was ALWAYS a problem), but now modern controllers running cleanflight/betaflight with blackbox tuning and oneshot are so good that vibration isn't much of a factor anymore. For me gimbals affect flight performance too much and produce numb video. I love to see how well people are flying and cope with the elements and terrain. I guess I like the adventure and skill of flying as much as the scenery being shot.
Also i almost got trapped in a crevasse when i was rock climbing in pirates cove. Luckily i found a way back up through an even more narrow tunnel/crevasse and my friend was still looking down calling my name on the other side were they last saw me! They were seriously freaked out and thought i fell down the crack! I wouldnt recomend pirates for ameture rock climbing because somtimes the rocks shift and you could become injured or trapped and they would have to possibley get you out by helicopter or lower ropes down to you if you were not severely injured
I'm seeing things I've been enjoying for 50+ years but from a new perspective. Thank you for these cool videos.

Yes, no gimbal or stabilization software. Flying smooth is the best stabilizer! :)

Almost got stuck climbing the cliffs at dinosaur caves... Had to call a friend with ropes and a latter 😮
