    So glad we have finally got a team to get behind in the city. The Cincy Saints tried but they tried to do too much too fast. FC Cincinnati is doing it right and I'm so glad to have a local team to support.

    MLS really really needs to have promotion and relegation. You can't have a major league without it. If MLS had promotion and relegation you would really get a lot more passion in the fans. It also adds more fans to come to the games that will affect either promotion or relegation.

    • @champwarren3195
      @champwarren3195 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      +Navi Blue it needs to be done. As a dynamo fan we were once a powerhouse and now we are last by a long shot, but who cares right? It doesn't matter what position we get as long as the club is profitable. We sell all our best players and there are almost no repercussions because we can't get relegated, so there is little incentive to improve. The league has a bunch of teams and there's the NASL too, and although geographically it could be difficult, it needs to happen if the league is going to be taken seriously

    • @joshuali7726
      @joshuali7726 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      But all other major sports leagues in the US (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) do fine without relegation and the idea of promotion/relegation is foreign to American sports.

    • @champwarren3195
      @champwarren3195 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Joshua Li Despite being American I hardly watch other sports, so I'm not especially familiar with how poor teams are affected. What I do know, however, is that right now the system is not working. Perhaps this is more an issue of salary caps limiting the entry of quality foreign players into the league and the college system interfering with the development of homegrown talent. We need some kind of change, and I don't think that because relegation and promotion are foreign ideas that they therefore cannot or should not be implemented. I see no issue with our league working like basically every other league in the world does

    I'm so happy my city has decided that this is a club that is striving for MLS. I would be so disappointed if Berding and Harkes were content with USL. I think they can take us there, with us on their backs.
    Onwards and upwards! I love as Harkes put it, "humble and hungry".

    • @jazzx251
      @jazzx251 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How?
      Without promotion and relegation, you could be in the USL forever - with its 5 substitutes per game, lol!
      The expansion of the MLS has now come to the point where, with certain financial protections for losing teams, it's time to introduce promotion and relegation.
      As I watched bottom of the league Houston Dynamo get disinterestingly mauled by David Villa tonight - their season gone, nothing to fight for - how much better would that game be if they had to avoid "the drop"?
      They still had enough points available to get out of the bottom 3 places.
      They would have fought for every ball instead of being like David Villa's traffic cone training practice.
      It's time.
      Expand the league to 40 teams (there's already enough well supported teams across America and Canada to do this) - split them into two divisions of 20 (East and West 10 teams each for each of the two divisions).
      Automatically exchange the winning teams in both East and West (of MLS 2) for the bottom teams in the top division. And have a two-legged series between the second best (of the lower division) and second worst (in MLS) to see who will be in MLS next season.
      That could be a good starting point.

      They can financially move, and John Harkes has stated his desire to do so. Promotion and relegation is not obviously a thing yet, and I wish it was, but your idea of it is really convoluted and unnecessarily complex.*****

    As soccer expands here in the US and new teams like FC Cincinnati make bids for the MLS, the need for promotion and relegation becomes more and more obvious. We cannot have a first tier with 30+ teams. Cap the first tier at 20 and started filling up the second division. Work with the NASL and USL to form the lower divisions. It would drastically improve US domestic soccer.

    • @hawkinsstern5356

    People saying it’s called football clearly don’t know enough about America or the fact that just because we speak English doesn’t mean we use the same terms as you for our sports or a lot of other things in the USA we call it soccer not football mainly because we have our own football American football and generally the most popular form of football is called that and the other forms of football got different names btw football isn’t just 1 type of sport it’s a generalization of multiple sports

    It's no doubt that FC Cincinnati looked good this season and demonstrated that they can compete with MLS clubs as far as fan bases are concerned. But, it's like the owner of semi-pro club Detroit FC owner said, the American soccer system isn't play up, it's pay up to move up. American football, basketball, and baseball was originated in US and followed their own structure. MLS keeps saying they want to be on level with the world. The global soccer world utilizes relegation. How do you explain Atlanta getting an invite to MLS the same year Atlanta's NASL club folded?

    _"Cincinnati loves successfull teams"_
    …and that’s the main issue with that US franchise system. Fan's should be connected to their team bc that team represents the city and its people, not the owner and his/her artificial merchandise machine. You’ll become a fan of a soccer team once you support it even if loosing games - like Wrexham.

    With the sports growth in America its only time before the US will join the elite footballing nations of the football world and now that the sport is taking off in China, football although already by far the biggest team sport in the world really is now the greatest team sport in the world that is truly global. Its great the sport is really genuinely growing again in America after the 50 odd years it had in the wilderness after the Great Depression. The history of the sport is far more ingrained in American history than most people realize. Before the Great Depression football was a huge sport in America but it failed due to a combination of the recession, too many leagues, the ego's and bickering of team owners and league officials ands lastly because the teams could not rid themselves of their association with whichever ethnic group and area they came from. For example a team derived from say Scottish, Irish, Italian or German immigrants based in a community of that community could not gain new fans whilst they held onto their ethnic ties even though the areas these teams came from were changing and becoming more diverse. No sport has the community behind it nor is any other sport so open to everyone, size is no barrier, all you need is supreme skill, endurance, great cardio and fitness is all that's needed, you don't need to be a freak 7foot tall or be the size of a dumper truck.

    For soccer one only needs a ball and kick it. What a waste of money. Better spend money on health care for everybody.

    I'll say this, the ONLY reason that men's soccer isn't ranked #1 in the world is because our young men have been playing American football! The case for that is, our GIRLS play soccer from day 1 and focus on that because they can't play football and they're ranked #1. But this is changing, our young men are starting to play and in 10-15 years, US men's soccer will be a force to be reckoned with.

      Also our girls play Soccer into college, which for the women and the US, act as free acadamies. But it's such an entirely different type of college than the men. It's a college where the best coaches in the game train you up and every college in the country has a team, unlike the men.

    • @studzilla

      That's not why we call it soccer. It's the English's fault. It was a slang term for the sport at the time in England and they taught us the term and we started calling it that ever since.

    • @joeykelly0157
      @joeykelly0157 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah like all the other replies it’s called soccer in the USA where Cincinnati Ohio is so they used the correct term for the country the city of Cincinnati is in duh

      Actually it is called soccer and was called soccer on the 1966 World Cup programs as well so soccer is an acceptable name.

      @ugithdahanayaka5616 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Glue Yeah it is acceptable but from where I come from and in most of the rest of the world football is more commonly used term...but I think FIFA tv is just trying to adapt to the situation here because it's about a club in America, and Americans used the term soccer... so yeah soccer is acceptable but football is the real term that describes the game 100%... so it's more acceptable...

    Cincinnati as soccer heartland is a joke. Be happy that it is there but why does every new city think they are the best.

    • @joeykelly0157

      beakerman007 maybe because Cincinnati has crushed so many attendance records and are already compared to MLS teams and they’re only about to start there 3rd season they have done things that other teams haven’t
