London Homesick Blues! It's a Gary P Nunn song that Jerry Jeff has covered

Love this song. I'm in Oklahoma and always loved this. It seems like Ray Wiley Hubbard or Gary P Nunn one of them whichever wrote it lived in Oklahoma at one time.

Back in my younger days, I went to a lot of country music concerts. JJW's were always the best!!! Try the song: Pissin' in the Wind'. RIP JJW.

I think RWH is must get tired of getting requests for this song every night. He once said if you are gonna write a hit song, make sure it’s something you don’t mind playing for the next 40 years.

As a fella who was born straight into an Oklahoma h*onkytonk by a mother who drank a fifth of whiskey daily while managing the bar when she wasn't go-go dancing, I approve of this message. The baby shower was on the pool table, shot glasses were my Legos, and ol' Hank did my lullabies. All in all, I think I turned out alright :-) Another ode to my unique upbringing that I recommend is "Long Line of Losers" by Kevin Fowler...not for the faint of heart!

Now I know why you like Jason Eady's "OK Whiskey" which by the way when you suggested it I thought it meant okay whiskey didn't know it was Oklahoma whiskey until after I listened. Also the Kevin Fowler suggestion is a good one.

@David Emswiler Hi Dave, I hope you're taking it easy. I listened to both Ted Shahan and David Landua( who is David Landau on YT) while I liked both I preferred Red. The song I liked the best wasn't either one of the 2 you mentioned but a song called "Water Bill". However, I did not like either one ad much as Jason, Courtney, or Jaime. I've really fallen for these three and have been listening to a lot of their stuff. One question what would you recommend by Django Walker? I saw him on the JJW tribute concert and know he is friends and co-writes some with William Beckman, the young man I mention to you or Christine about a month ago. Definitely am going to check out Django and see how much of JJW's talent got passed down. Anyway continue your coalescence and hopefully you'll get some good news from Doc pretty soon.

@@mikebarnett9012 Appreciate your words of sympathy...unfortunately living out in the sticks means a long drive and a long wait for me to see a specialist. :-( I agree with Red being more my style than his brother, but my son prefers him so maybe its a generational thing? I requested Django Walker awhile back during football season..."Texas Longhorn" gets alot of play around that time! I haven't really kept up with his latest music, but "Young enough to Run" was a decent song. I won't compare him to his dad because that seems almost mean. :-) William Beckmann has alot of good stand-outs, but the one on my playlist is "Bourbon Whiskey". A new artist (to me) that I've been listening to alot of lately is Emily Nenni. Don't know much about her, but a couple songs I'd recommend are "Long Game" and "If this is Just a Game". Take care.

@@davidemswiler4351 Thanks for the recommendations I will definitely check out Emily and the Django. "Bourbon Whiskey" is my favorite Beckman song to but I also like "Danced All Night Long" for the Tex-Mex influence and another similar to Bourbon called " In The Dark". Also looking forward to your Flatland Cavalry request for a "A Life Where We Work Out" to come up. I know Don's List is looong but feel like it has been about 11/2 months since you mentioned it to me and I feel like Don generally has about a 2 month turnaround. You and the Mrs. take care and try to stay cool. It's ' hotter than the hinges hangin' on the gates of he!!' here in Ga.

Hi Don, an iconic song on the Alt. Country scene. You are right it is a Ray Wylie Hubbard song , however, Jerry Jeff recorded it first so I'm not sure you would call it a cover. Legend has it that Ray Wylie wrote it backstage in about 10 minutes in between sets. Another good Jerry Jeff song you should look into is "Viva Lukenbach" which kinda explains the history of Lukenbach. Anyway this was a fun one today and I hope the rest of everyone's weekend continues to be so.----#UTRCM

Default RWH tune. He didn't think much of it. Jerry called him and asked if he could record it. Ray said sure but it's no good. A few months later and Ray begins to really like the song every 6 months when the royalty checks come in he liked it even more!

  • @rollie3383

Yes it a Ray Wilie Hubbard cover. The story is that Ray Jerry Jeff and a few other song writers were in Clovis New Mexico jamming and it was Ray's turn to get beer. The re were two bars a hippie bar and a redneck bar and they would have fit in better in the hippie bar but the redneck bar was a closer walk. Ray goes to the redneck bar to get off sales and the rednecks wanted to kick his ass. There was a redneck drinking with his momma and she said you want my boy to kick your ass hippie? When he got back with the beer out came the song. It is a parody of Oakie many people don't get it.

RWH is an og of red dirt country. He’s got a huge catalog. Well worth checking out. He’s as much of a poet as a song writer
