- Darjeeling MP Raju Bista made an explosive comment on Sikkim’s ‘Foreigners’ tag row at the Parliament today. Bista questioned that if the Tamil speakers and Bengali speakers are not automatically assumed to be from Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, then why are the Nepali-speaking Gorkhas tagged ‘foreigners’. He further demanded ST Status for the 11 left-out Gorkha sub-tribes to remove discrimination.

I very much wish to thank Shri Raju Bist, Hon’ble MP LDarjeeling Constituency for raising a very crucial question on the meaning as well as its interpretation and application of the term “Nepali “vis -a-vis other nomenclatures like Bengali , Tamil,Urdu, Sindhi, and Kashmiri
.Lt Gen Shakti Gurung himself once raised similar question and had remarked almost on the same lines as that noticed in the content of the speech delivered by Sri Bistjue.
Sri Gurung was of the opinion that no one draws a parallel that being an Indian Gorkha and speaking Nepali is the same as being Indian and speaking Bengali when it is spoken in Bangladesh as well.or for that matter being Indian and speaking Tamil when it is spoken in Sri Lanka also. He went ahead telling that one being an Indian and speaking Urdu Kashmiri or Sindhi when it is spoken in Pakistan
is not viewed suspiciously , but the Indian Gorkhas are looked at differently when they call themselves as Nepali or when they speak their language calling it Nepali. He even remarked’THE DEFINITION of being an INDIAN varies tarring the Gorkhas..’
However,
myself being an Indian Gorkha as well, and having a particular interest inNomenclaturology I studied the matter further and in the process I found the following lines written by Shri Gurung himself. In the same booklet reNGC Vision Document April,2018 page-iii which could do away with the problem s of the term Nepali as it seems to appear.when Sri Gurung himself writes:-
“A Gorkha is accepted as a soldier guarding India’s frontiers yet his language, culture and literature is termed as NEPALI. “
The most significant point is that Shri Gurung ,theIndian Gorkha , who served his Motherland Bharat, for forty years as most devoted Son of Bharat TRUELY regrets being called a NEPALI .And he gives his reason to support his view.by very clearly stating
“ THE TERM NEPALI means a CITIZEN of Nepal.”
I very much hope I have not stepped on any ground that I should not have. Please accept my apology for If I have done otherwise Vande Bharat Mataram

Nepali means citizen of Nepal but Bengali word or the Tamil or Kashmiri are not to be mixed up with citizenship words likePakistani or Nepali .

Why not Bhai they too speak Urdu Bangali and Tamil. Apne pe aane se mirchi lagti hai bhai to dushro ko bhi jalana chodo. Jinke Ghar siseke hote hain ushe dushroko pathar nahi marana chahiye. What you sow so shall you reap.
