El Greco was misjudged, rediscovered, and celebrated. He was the critic of great Renaissance artists such as Michelangelo, as well as an inspiration to Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso. But there are several centuries between these stations. The documentary tells the story of the polarizing oddball, who was only declared a pioneer of modern expressionism long after his death. This painter is so cool - Who knew? Watch this doc - it’s pretty great.
I watched the movie based on this artist that was beautifully scored by the legendary Vangelis. I am watching this for the first time and am moved!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!
Nobody mentioned Mannerism. Pity. No artist no matter how clever works in a vacuum ... El Greco could be described as a Venetian Mannerist ...interestingly like other Mannerists his style fell from favor because of Baroque art ... it's ironic that many considered him mad ... it was the Mannerists after all who developed the concept of furor divino ... divine madness ... a Platonic idea that was to provide inspiration to all Mannerists artists ...

Rebel, displaced wanderer disposed to transcend. What is to be other.
El Greco was a commercial artist
Evidently heavily influenced by the Renaissance
Senza Paul Durand-Ruel non ci sarebbe el Greco nella modernità. Come al solito la cultura anglosassone cerca di appropriasi di intelligenze non loro!
