    • @annabackman3028
      @annabackman3028 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Ok, Champis is older than Pommac.
      Champis begun it's career 1910, under the name 'Champangeläskedryck' ( = champagne soda drink). Likewise Pommac it was made as an alternative to Champagne, as well as "Must" was made as an alternative to beer. Alcohol and alcoholism was equally devastating in Sweden as in the US in the early 1900s.
      However, the name was to long to say everytime so 'Champis' became the colloquial name and 1918 the named was changed.
      Champis is based on apples and grapes, Pommac apples and raspberries, Trocadero apples and oranges, and.. Ta-da! Trocadero contains, like Coke, CAFFEINE! Trocadero was launched 1953.

      Pucko and "tunnbrödrulle"! 😁 THAT is a classic!
      Tunnbröd is literally 'thin bread', it's like a white tortilla made of rye. You (should spread butter on first, but some don't nowadays 😡) put mashed potatoes and a hotdog on. Then add ketchup, mustard and either "gurk-majonäs" chopped pickled gurkins with mayo, or "räksallad", which MEANS "shrimp salad" but the number of shrimps are usually 0,5 per table spoon, some sort of veggies (anyone, enlighten me!) and mayo.
      Roll this to a big "enchilada", one side open, the other closed, so everything stay when you eat!
      It has been a standard thing on hotdog stands in Sweden since at least the 60s! With Pucko!
      I feel like 15-16 years again, driving moped and hanging by the local "korv-mojje", hotdog stand in the mid 70s 😂😂😂! "Flosses", we miss you!

    Champis, Trocadero, Zingo and Pucko are old classic soft drinks. Champis has been around since 1910 while Trocadero and Zingo came in the 50s.
    Trocadero is especially popular in northern Sweden and considered the sort of national soda of Norrland. It’s flavoured with apples and oranges.
    Pucko had its heydays in the 50s and 60s and were commonly sold in hotdog stands, but have had a recent revival.
    Zingo was for a while called Ingo when they tried marketing it with the former Swedish heavy weight world champion of boxing, Ingemar “Ingo” Johansson.
    The two fantas I’ve never even seen. I guess they are around. Festis is from the 60s and it’s the sort of drink you buy for your kids since it’s a bit less sugar and not carbonated. It’s also a good thirst quencher. Festis has really grown over the years after very clever marketing and packaging. They used to be served in Tetra Pak packages but nowadays come in PET bottles.

    The festis drinks are very synonymous with children in sweden. So youre totally correct about that. Well noticed!
    It was a very common drink that we got during school trips on the bus ect. They didnt used to be as fancy though and came in very basic flavours like apple, orange and pear. They were a lot smaller and came in square shaped small carton boxes. I dont live in sweden anymore so i dont know but maybe they still sell those classic variants too. They were super tasty tho, always, so i think its nice theyre are experimenting with different flavours. Ill have to try one of these the next time i go to sweden because i can imagine that some of these new flavours taste really good. festis was always good lol.
    I grew up in the 90s and 00s and have lived abroad for 10 years and havent had a festis in a long time.

    Loved your rendition of trying swedish things. You're the most genuine and open-minded i've seen so far. The fact that most of our soft drinks are less sweet than yours (at least the ones ive tried of US soda have been sweeter overall than ours), your pallets could have disagreed but they did'nt and that warmed my heart. You gave me a couple a laughs unintentionally and that's always appreciated. The part with "Festis" being carbonated or not was hella funny because of the backstory. They even had a commercial about not being carbonated back in the 90s. Keep up the great work, i really enjoyed it. Ps. I've seen in the comments that Swedes talked about you trying "Julmust", you should because it's amazing. But if you do it, tread lightly. That's a national treasure for us and Swedes will be very offended if you dont like it. Just a heads up.

    Champis, Trocadero and Pommac are all quite simliar multifruit sodas with an emphasis on apples, pears and grapes. My favorite among them is Pommac, since it’s just a tad dryer than the others. However, Trocadero released a sugar free version a few years ago, called Trocadero Zero and I hate to say it’s an absolute contender for the throne. You should try it - and maybe compare those three brands? Enjoy them on ice or chilled in a glass for a more ”champagne” experience. And yes, we all fondly remember ”Seinfeld” and George’s father - Festivus for the rest of us!

    I'm Swedish and I have never seen any of those festis flavors before, but cactus and lime is great, but the most common when I grew up are just plain orange, pear and apple. Just one fruit in each drink, none of these mixes. The apple flavored one is almost like an apple juice.
    Trocadero, Champis and Zingo (with orange flavor) all have long history in Sweden and are considered classics.
    And a fun fact about Sweden is that it is the only country in the world where Coca-Cola sales drop over Christmas. Since Sweden have it's own "Christmas drink" called Julmust, which is very very popular.

    It is funny that you mentioned that Festis reminded you of childhood etc. When I was a kid, Festis was marketed as for small kids (I drank them when I was like 6-9 because I didn't like carbonated drinks) and came in standard flavors like apple, pear, orange. But then in the late 90s/early 2000s they went through a rebrand targeting teens and young adults coming up with the weird flavor combinations and having like youth-oriented commericals.

    • @FromtheHobbitHole
      @FromtheHobbitHole  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s almost like they tried to keep their drinks relevant to the age of the kids that grew up drinking them. So as a teen or young adult you would go back and buy their drinks remember that they were good but now feeling like they aren’t just for kids.

  • @mhamusic.
    @mhamusic. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Festis is very much a childrens drink like you said! It's also sold in smaller cardbord boxes with a straw and is a typical picnic-kinda thing for the kids (lots of other brands have the same thing. Also the flavors you tasted are more recent additions, the classics are plain orange & pear flavors etc). Trocadero and Champis are old classics. Not very common anymore but everyone knows what they are and they can be found anywhere. Pucko is also an old classic that has recently been revived with new flavors and a big marketing campaign. Pretty overall appreciated by swedes, although I think it's more poular to mix your own chocolate milk with "O'boy" (Chocolate powder that you mix with milk - extremely common in most households). Pucko is a bit more like something you get with your food at a hot dog stand. Lastly, Fanta and Coca Cola/Pepsi are by far the most common sodas in Sweden. Diet versions are a lot more popular as well I believe. So Coca Cola Zero (not sure if you have that in the US, it's basically a diet coke), Pepsi Max (diet pepsi) and Fanta/Fanta Exotic are extremely common here.
    Great video overall! I love your calm vibe and the insights you had, subscribed! :)

Typically we drink lemonade as a refreshing summer drink, but sometimes after drinking it you’ll find yourself even thirstier because of the sugar and sourness that you get from the drink. A swede here!
    Fanta shokata is romanian and is actually very rare to find in Sweden. They appear occationally in some stores but it’s not common. However, the taste is actually very familiar to swedes since elderflower is common as a taste :) but the fanta shokata isn’t common to find in sweden.
    The fanta exotic is probably the second most bought fanta in sweden after the original with orange.
    Champis (and its cousins trocadero, pommac and portello) is one of my favourites and it’s always liked when someone serve these but most people don’t buy them for some reason🤔 but everybody likes them... and no trocadero isn’t a cola flavour.
    Zingo apelsin (orange) is like a more sour less sweet version of fanta orange. We normally make two families with pop.. 1.cocacola,fanta,sprite and 2. Pepsi, zingo, 7up.
    Zingo sorbet i have never seen so i don’t know anything about it.
    Festis has a ton of flavours but i have only tested like 2 or 3 of them. It’s mostly popular with young kids and in general you don’t see people buy or drink festis.
    Pucko, our no. 1 chocolate milk. Loved by most.
    The most swedish pop however is Julmust/påskmust that we drink extremly much of during christmas and easter. And preveously it was available during all lf the year but not anymore. That you should have tasted!
    Otherwise Coca cola and pepsi drinks are the most common here like in all of the world...
    we have a swedish cola drink that came out like right before coca cola came to sweden when like pop with caffeine got legal. It’s called Cuba Cola and it’s quite good... not like coke or pepsi but right behind them. It’s like 10000 times better than the no-name/own brand colas from the grocery stores.
    Cuba cola just launched a sugarfree version like this summer and that’s even better than the original cuba cola. But again... most people buy coca cola or pepsi.

    Trocadero (probably named after Place du Trocadéro in Paris ). It's wildly popular in the northern part of Sweden (but ubiquitous in Sweden) - often mixed with "moon shine". Apple and Orange + Caffeine. Festis is a still drink. Zingo is carbonated and contains real fruit juice. Pucko is something I drink when I'm drunk to wash down a hot dog on the way home. The festis is basically a bottled drink version of a brand of juiceboxes in Sweden often brought as drinks for snack time for kids when out in nature or town during the day. Although the juiceboxes are very commonly used and convenient for kids, festis is definitely a brand enjoyed by all ages.
    And personally, trocadero, champis and zingo are some of my favourite sodas as a swede ^^

    Festis is a kind of saft, a drink we have here in Sweden, it is not carbornated. If I describe it to someone who is from the states I would say that saft is kinda like lemonade but with all kinds of flavors. My absolute favourite saft is the elderflower and lemon one my mom makes, it's the most refreshing thing to drink on a hot summers day. We go out and pick a bunch of elderflower together, buy lemons and sugar and get started. :)

New products come and go again after a while. So who would have thought in 1954, when Pucko chocolate milk was launched, that it would still be around well into the 21st century? Today, Pucko is something of a Swedish national drink, which has acquired a cult stamp, indispensable in the sausage stand.

    As a child, I always got Champis for New Year's Eve and Festis for my school trips! :) I definitely recommend you to try Julmust as many others have already suggested. It's a festive drink that's sold twice a year. Around Christmas it's sold as Julmust and around Easter as Påskmust. It's the exact same drink but they change the name and label depending on the season. :D

    While people mentioned the taste of Trocadero it do have any likeness with Colas, it does have caffeine in it, but does for some foods etc have a better taste profile to complement food. Also. about Champis and things, Sweden had for much of the 20th century a strong temperance movement (and still have but not as strong) so this means soft drink alternatives to alcohol have been important. And indeed while the drink was created in 1910 by the company Roberts that tried to find alternatives to alcohol options as the founder was a non-drinker, the company's most famous invention on this is the Swedish christmas softdrink Julmust that was created to be an alternative to Christmas beer, that drink makes Sweden a nation where Coca Colas sales goes down during christmas so in someways it was successful.

    Fun fact: Pucko aside from this brandname Is also an insult in Swedish. It's analogous to Bonehead, Stupid (in a more lighthearted way), Dum-dum etc.
    I know for a fact the insult came before the drink so I really wonder wtf came up with this, it's an old brand so maybe not a marketing dept, probably some guy tinkering with flavours. It's a classic in Sweeden, couldn't tell you how many time I had a burger and pucko as a kid in the 70s

    As a swede I found this collection a bit puzzling :) Zingo? far as I know not a big favourite nah, I'd have given you the classics: Julmust, Sockerdricka, Fruktsoda, Päronsoda, Hallonsoda and Pommac and granted, Champis does belong in the classics section :) and also Pucko is real old - def a classic, and if you want Festis stick with the original, apparently you can get it carbonated nowadays which is odd because they used to make a big deal of that they would NEVER do that! :)

    I think those cans in particular are from Sweden.
    There is a coca-cola factory in Sweden, outside of Stockholm.
    The recipes are a bit different, I think they contain more sugar.
    Sweden is quite the sweet tooth country.
