  • Today Larry is talking about the ‪@OfficialEpiphone‬ Les Paul Modern Guitar. This Epiphone has vintage-wound pickups in a modern player's guitar. It has an asymmetrical neck carve, an ebony fretboard, and locking Grovers!
    He has been anxious to see what Epiphone has done with this Les Paul Modern. Let us know what you think about this guitar below.

    Larry is the "Bob Ross" of guitar demos on TH-cam. I absolutely enjoy watching his demo videos. His gentle, pleasing style makes for perfect reviews. You can tell he is honest in his descriptions and opinions of each instrument. Moore Music hit a home run when they decided to get him in front of the camera. Great job Larry and Moore Music. Keep up the good work.

    After watching your review again, I decided it's time for an update. I now have that same model and color. Got it minutes (okay, days) after my last comment. Stamped July of 2021. I have never been more thrilled with a purchase. I play until my fingers fail, then I seek out reviews of the damned guitar just to watch other people tell me how great it is. Seriously, you're a cool dude. I enjoy watching/listening to you. Take care

      Hi. Are you still liking it after 10 months? I"m right on the verge of ordering the black one, too. Any regrets? Thank you! 👍🙏

      @@davidgordon7673 None. Zero regrets. If I told you how many hours I play the damned thing, to the exclusion of even my Telecaster, you probably wouldn’t believe me. Now you might have to spend some time optimizing pickup heights, fretboard action and the like, but it will be a labor of love, so look forward to it. It is, in my opinion, distinct enough (in a superior fashion) from the Gibson Modern and _all_ other Epiphone models to serve as Epiphone’s top-tier, stand alone, flagship entry into the competition - all of which is hidden in the price, compared to their higher-priced and seriously inferior models. There is nothing about this guitar that feels mass produced. It has flawlessly handcrafted written all over it. The finish and binding are spectacular! And again, in my opinion, black (graphite) is the only color that should be considered - though it will show prints if you don’t occasionally wipe it down. Last bit of advice has three parts. If you don’t have the desire or capability to do so yourself, get someone to do a top-notch setup asap, as there will be finishing touches necessary to bring out its full glory. Last, but certainly not least, spring for the hard shell case, as it’s as gorgeous as the guitar and the guitar demands it. You would have to spend a fortune to outdo the Probucker 2 and 3 it comes with, so don’t bother - these are as good as any Seymour Duncans with Alnico 2’s I’ve ever seen. Seriously, they are amazing, once you get them dialed in and you’re used to them. The coil-splits put the adaptability factor over the top, though you will sometimes need to boost the volume a tiny bit when you split them to experience the full benefit of having them, mainly when using overdrive. The cleans are stellar. Now, the only caveat. I love the metric CTS pots, but you will find they need periodic cleaning. Ever couple of months, I back them out of the guitar to the extent the wiring allows, so I can get the wand from WD-40 fast-drying Contact Cleaner into the pot body entry points and blast them while spinning and push-pulling the stems. Remember this when the neck position pickup stops working. Trust me, it WON’T be the three-way switch, which is bulletproof. And for the record, I bought it a year ago, November. The date stamp on TH-cam is inaccurate. If you want more info, just let me know. I fully support your decision to buy this guitar. It has another thing that puts it out in front of the Gibson - eternal sustain. That’s right. I have been playing for more than 50 years and this thing outguns any Gibson l have played in this regard, when it comes to action and sustain. Let me know how you make out.

    • @maekong2010
      @maekong2010 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@davidgordon7673 I should mention that, depending on your playing skill level, none of what I said - except for the pot cleaning - might be necessary. The Modern would be fully playable for most people, right out of the box. It is the Swiss Army knife of guitars. I am retired and played it every god-damned day (still do) and for many months before making any modifications whatsoever. So go nuts!

      @@maekong2010 Holy Moly, dude, what a response! Deep bows of gratitude to you. I'm assuming you don't work for Epiphone LOL. I've only played Teles and Strats in my life, and have been looking and looking to find the right LP to "experiment" with to see if the shorter scale and humbcuckers vibe with me. There is no way in hell that I would spend 2-3k on a Gibson, not knowing how I will get on with an LP, so I have been looking at "cheaper" alternatives- from Epiphone to FGN (Japanese company) to Eastman, Edwards, Tokai, etc. Found the Epi LP Modern, checked out review on Sweetwater and lots of vids on YT and it kinda seems like the "perfect porridge" on paper. Lighter than an average LP, locking tuners, ebony fretboard, phase switch for the Peter Green tones (which sound quite nice in most demo videos i have seen). And, yes, the Producers sound quite lovely- exactly the tone i had in my head. I saw a video of a dude replying the Probuckers with JB/Jazz set and I really preferred the Epi pups by a mile. So, yeah, I'm on the fence. But you have most likely put me over the line. It's really amazing to hear someone sing the praises of a guitar like you have done here. With a setup and case, I'm still looking at roughly 1k, which is right in my budget. So, thank you again. I will be coming back to this post when I get it (yes, graphite black) to remind myself about cleaning the pots, etc. Thank you for taking the time to respond in such detail and passion Cheers! 👍🙏✌

      @@davidgordon7673 I sensed that you were legitimately sincere, so l have given you everything I have on the subject. If, per chance, you have any tuning stability bugaboos, make sure the tuner nuts on the front of the headstock have been uniformly snugged. That should take care of it. That one took me a while to discover. This is yet another area where Epiphone outdoes Gibson - tuning stability.

    What is the difference between coil splitting and coil tapping?

    • @MooreMusicGuitars
      @MooreMusicGuitars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Coil splitting simply separates the active coil from the slug (humbucking) coil and is the approach used by most 4-conductor pickups. Coil tapping is a bit more difficult (and a bit more expensive) to implement, but allows for more precise voicing of the tapped sound. By wiring the pickup so that some of the windings from each coil can be used, you get a lower output that can still take advantage of some of the slug coil to reduce hum, and "tune" the pickup to the frequencies that give the best tone for that pickup.

      @@MooreMusicGuitars is coil tapping different than out phase and parallel?

    • @MooreMusicGuitars
      @MooreMusicGuitars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@terran236 Yes. A true coil tap outputs a signal from only a portion of the wire wrapped around the magnets in the pickup. "Out of phase" and "parallel" switching typically refers to the wiring relationship between two pickups on the guitar - but in a very few guitars the 2 coils of a humbucker can be switched between parallel and series wiring.

Considering that these two chemicals are used in multitudes of different scenarios the Polly was actually made to be completely different than nitrocellulose which you should have found out during your research. but Whatever makes you happy.

    I like the cost of Epiphones but Gibson looks and sounds so much better, and the prices aren't much more if you get them used.

      Well, it should be an afterthought, it doesn't really matter if we dont count the asthetic, but from what i can see it is not much different from the other les pauls, even ones made by gibson

      I agree on buying U.S-made products. I've been thinking about the 2020 Epiphone '59 LP and all craftsmanship differences aside, it isn't made in the U.S.
      It would be like expecting a Martin D-28, but buying an Ovation instead.
      For $200 more, you've got a killer used Gibson, or even a killer new one.
