You might be right, but how many teams were willing to trade up for him like the Mavericks. Give the Mavs some credit for knowing what Luka was and what he could be. Regardless i know we lucky to have this mini goat roaming the streets of Dallas.
But Luka is already on the scout's radar before he even won the MVP. Him winning the MVP was just icing on the cake, further solidifying the caliber of player that he is.
Everyone needs to be scouted lmao. You know who else won MVP in that league? Anthony Parker, Nando De Colo, Nemanja Bjelica, ECT. I'm not the biggest Isiah fan, but he's great at relating to players, communicating the player's perspective to non-players (us fans), and is a pretty thoughtful guy in general.
The thing about Luka is in crunch time down the stretch of games you need the ball in the hands of someone who makes the right play every time down. Doesn’t matter if it’s a pass a shot a drive to bucket and get fouled. You have to make the correct plays in the last 3 minutes of games to have a shot to win. This kid makes the correct play 98% of the time. If he didn’t Carlisle wouldn’t have him running the offense during those times. It was a camp of two, one saying he'd be great though even then not many predicted top 25 player in the league at least in his rookie season, and another camp saying his athleticism will hold him back which it only really does when he's isolated against a speedy guard on defence. I mean his game in FIBA was based around the pick n roll, playing against better athletes doesn't take away the feel for the pick n roll. His handles aren't the best in the world or anything but they're good enough you don't put big men on him.
