Mt. Ebal “Curse Tablet” Full Press Conference

- Dr. Scott Stripling with the Associates for Biblical Research (biblearchaeolo...) held a press conference on Thursday, March 24th, 2022, at the Lanier Theological Library in Houston, Texas, to announce a major find from the archaeological excavations at Mt. Ebal in Israel - what some are saying could be as consequential as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Dr. Stripling, an archaeologist featured in Appian Media's documentary “Searching for a King: Israel's United Kingdom” ( • Searching for a King: ... ) and his team, discovered a folded lead tablet while wet sifting through discarded material from a past excavation on Mt. Ebal, in Israel. The excavation was done in the 1980s and revealed an altar matching the description from Deuteronomy 27 and Joshua 8.
The tablet found at this altar site, which only measures approximately 2 cm., was taken to a lab in the Czech Republic where it was scanned to reveal ancient Hebrew writing.
It was revealed that the writing was a formulaic curse, in ancient Hebrew, consisting of 40 letters. The writing reads:
"Cursed, cursed, cursed - cursed by the God YHW.
You will die cursed.
Cursed you will surely die.
Cursed by YHW - cursed, cursed, cursed."
The tablet and subsequent inscription are believed to be dated to the Late Bronze Age, which would make it the oldest known proto-Hebrew inscription ever discovered in Israel and prove that (contrary to many current historians) that the Israelites were literate when they entered the land of Canaan, and therefore could have written the Bible as some of the events it documents took place.
It is important to note that Dr. Stripling and the team with the Associates for Biblical Research are ensuring that all of their research, processes, and conclusions are verified through a thorough peer review prior to official publication. The peer review is currently underway and the official publication of this finding is scheduled to be completed by late summer 2022 and will include more details concerning the artifact and its contents, methods of dating, and epigraphical evaluation, including releases of the scans themselves. Early analysis from multiple leading experts seem to corroborate his team's findings. The individuals conducting the peer review, tests, and evaluations are well-qualified, as are the labs carrying out the excavations.
Until then, we await final verification with excitement and gratefulness to the men and women that work diligently in these various professions to help us better understand and appreciate the Word of God and to help to ground the Biblical history in reality.

I find it amazing that a lot of the comments are deeply religious people celebrating the find. How awesome. Great video.
We never needed it, but it validates a timeline that has been a debate for a long time. This places everything for the exodus. What Pharaoh and when the events took place. I would say even goes so far as to settling the debates on how to interpret the Bible dating everything. Does the ofent used 40 years just mean an unknown amount of time or is it literal. Well now we know its literal.

This is absolutely amazing! Read the passages for Deuteronomy and Joshua, I could not help but notice that Moses gave instructions for the covenant of blessing and cursing by mentioning the name of both mountains (Gezirim and Ebal) without having set foot on those mountains or seen it himself (Deut.11:29). The LORD is the one speaking to Israel through Moses, Joshua obeyed God's instruction through Moses, and now the LORD has directed you guys to the discovery of this very important piece of Biblical History. PRAISE THE LORD!

Did you even watch the video? This is evidence for earlier forms of written works from the Israelites. Which proves wrong scholars who said they had no form of written communications. Also proves that they were in the area at an earlier date than previously provable outside of scripture. Seriously, doesn’t mean I think it is representative of something good, but rather good for proving the historicity of the Bible. It’s not cursing God, it’s cursing his followers at the time so they remembered his Grace towards them? Just because it involves a curse doesn’t mean this find is “evil”. That is just off the mark.

Probably the shape itself is not as significant as the fact that it is repeated elsewhere. The repetition of the shape links the various sites where it has been observed. This supports the conclusion that the whole site is early Hebrew/Israelite and counters any argument that the artifact is Israelite but came to be there through transport by a different people group.
